Indy May Be Spiffed Up, Too -- Like E.T.

Following a screening of a restored and digitally "tweaked" 20th Anniversary Special Edition: E.T. -- The Extra-Terrestrial in Salt Lake City, Frank Marshall, who co-produced the film with his wife, Kathleen Kennedy Marshall, indicated that plans are afoot to similarly renew the Indiana Jones movies, which the Marshalls also co-produced, according to an article appearing on the DreamWorks' fan website (http://dreamworksfansite.com/editorials/E.T._20_Review.php). "We're thinking about doing this with Indy," Marshall was quoted as saying, "bringing it back and spiffing up the effects. Before seeing the new E.T., we would have had mixed feelings about seeing Raiders [of the Lost Ark] touched in any way. Now the prospect is mouth watering."

If they are just going to restore the old negatives and what not to make the movie look better, then awesome. But if they are going to also add a bunch of CGI crap and replace guns with twinkies or whatever, then I hope they fail in their mission.

They did the same thing with the orignal star wars movies and it was decent. I see no reason why it wouldn't work for Indiana Jones.

That added song sequence in Jedi and Han walking on Jabba's tail was NOT decent. They sucked. And I would be more receptive to the Star Wars edits if Lucas allowed the originals to still be seen, but he's completely removed them from public circulation. There is hope we can see the original uncut untouched movies on DVD, but I am not holding my breath.
