View Full Version : WORST outfits/costumes in the DC Cartoons?

We've had a thread on the best, now lets discuss the worst costumes and outfits in the DCAU. My votes go to Sonar (i know thats what his comic outfit looks like, but he looks like a bellhop or movie usher, this is supposed to be a villain?), and b'wanna beast (do i need to explain why?). Come to think of it, penguin's design left a lot to be desired as well, though the one from "the batman" is just as bad.

J'onn. Really, the overalls and underoos ought to have been left in the comics.

 - For me it has to be Cluemaster from TB.

I'm not talking about being fat...I mean the Penguin's fat...but he has a cool costume ...but Cluemaster was a sorry villain and his costume was equally as putrid.

Strangely enough...I thought the 3 midget henchmen had cool outfits.

Martian Manhunter-J'onn's my favorite Justice Leaguer, but that outfit of his is an embarrassment. He looks like a green Chippendale's dancer. For Pete's sake, give the last green Martian some dignity...and some pants.

B'wana Beast-Granted, this guy's a bottom barrel Leaguer anyway, but come on. Not even The Robonic Stooges would be caught dead wearing what this guy walks around in.

Agree with TNBA's Bane. The guy looks like some leather-clad whip-woman's slave.

If we're counting Hanna-Barbera DC toons, then I've got to add Brainiac to my list. Another guy badly in need of trousers.

For that matter, have you ever noticed how all of the ethnic Superfriends' outfits either have no shirt or no pants? What's the deal? Who are these people? Do all of the non-white Superfriends wear Depends?

Huntress- That black and purple "thing" that she wears on JLU is stupid looking. Why couldn't she have been dressed like Ashley Scott on the short lived WB series Birds of Prey? Sure, Huntress would still be a mean bee-yotch, but she would at least look good while being one.

To reiterate: This is stupid looking
http://www.newsaramablog.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10006/normal_27514.jpg

This is hot.

Also, Batgirl's outfit on The Batman is pretty lame. It looks like something a kid would wear for Halloween (but only because her mom made it for her and she was too polite to tell her how badly it stinks).

>>My votes go to Sonar (i know thats what his comic outfit looks like, but he looks like a bellhop or movie usher, this is supposed to be a villain?)

Well, Sonar in the comics (old Green Lantern foe) was some guy from a small European country who became a villain in an attempt to bring "fame" to his nation---hence his costume IIRC was based on his nation's military uniforms (the country was rather pre-industrial-ish)...

To add to the list:

- The Batman's Joker: bad enough he looks like a deranged chimp---but he also looks like he's been sleeping on a park bench somewhere and digs through trash cans looking for old soda cans to recycle for money. Maybe he should have a sign reading "will commit mayhem for food"...

- Aquaman: rather, the JL costume based on his 90's comic "makeover", which I always hated---he looks like a roadie for some 80s big-hair metal band (with some stupid Capt. Ahab harpoon-for-a-hand to boot)...

Batgirl's B:TAS costume. Somehow, this costume has always bothered me. It just looks like a cheap copy of Batman's costume. The TNBA costume was much better, but the B:TAS one still get to me.

Huntress' latest costume makes her look better. Her original costume could have worked, but her Jim Lee design really compliments her figure better.

Couldn't disagree more about that poster's Huntress JLU comments. I HATE HATE HATE all this redundant and uncreative black leather comic book movies crutch on, it's boring. One of the appeals of comics is the variant costumes (like sports) and when you start trying too hard to be cool you turn into Richard Greico.

That said I LOVE Huntress's duds and HATE HATE DCAU's boringass AMAZO with the cut and paste Parasite design.

I don't know, Huntress just looks like a dominatrix in her JLU outfit, but maybe that was the idea. Since I absolutely hated Huntress in JLU anyway, perhaps my opinion isn't the least biased one.

On the subject of bad costumes, I'd be remiss not to mention Stargirl. Sorry, but Courtney dresses like one of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

Have you even seen Wrath in the actual comic? It was 100 times worse. His new design in the comics doesn't look so hot either.

TNBA Riddler: After his classy costume in B:TAS, this change was a real step-down.

Blockbuster: I know this is how he looks in the comics, but the orange shirt and purple pants just look weird.

Justice League and The Batman Martian M: Reasons explained above.

AMAZO was pretty plain and really uninspired.

Blackstar, you and me are clearly two different people. I love Stargirl's costume. Kicks the redesigned Supergirl's costume's ass.

And Mattashell, you must be joking about Supergirl's original costume on the show. I always liked the Linda Davers version/Bruce Timm design over Mickael Turner's design.

The Batman's Riddler. :eek:Yeah, he is kind of Marilyn Manson freaky, which is a bit bothersome. But there is one thing that has to be granted, I suppose: that look does at least convey some sense of menace, unlike the yawn-inspiring BTAS and TNBA Riddler costumes.

The Batman's Bane. :confused:Granted, Bane's just not a good look anywhere he occurs. But to be honest, the version that really bothers me most is the TNBA black-mask-and-spiked-collar-combo thing, with the, um ... disturbing connotations associated with that sort of attire.
*shudders*

EDIT: Oops -- didn't notice that Mattashell had already inserted a pic of that TNBA Bane costume above *shudders again* with essentially the same complaint about it that I had. Sorry; didn't mean to be repetitious.

That's cool. I guess we can just agree to disagree. Personally, I like Supergirl's new look. I wish I could get an action figure for that. And I suppose Stargirl's costume isn't as bad as all that. I'm just not a fan of the Lone Ranger mask.

Still, it's an idiotic costume--you have a job where getting shot at is a daily part of life: how is baring you midriff a good idea? It was extra-ironic in the books, since it debuted not long after after a story where Helena was shot four times.

The Riddler from TNBA: He looks like a total dork and whats scarier is that having a costume that tight, you can actually see his privates bulging out of his pants.Man.

Supposedly, Stargirl's costume is based on that of "Capt. Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew"'s Yankee Poodle (a poodle team member with electromagnetic powers expressed via an ability to shoot attracting/repulsing "stars and stripes"), Stargirl's creator being a Zoo Crew fan:

I know Timm and co. where infatuated w/ the look of the Silver Age however some characters looked good while others did not. Star Sapphire looked great

I didn't care for Polaris, The Key, and countless other background villains from the final season.

TNBA's Riddler was just a no-no. I suppose they really wanted to pay an homage to Frank Gorshin's Riddler.

I liked Bane's new look. Sure it's S&M but it's far more terrifying than his nacho libre mask.

The Cluemaster. 'Nuff said.
Vibe, Bwanna Beast, The Creeper, Crowbar, Fastball, Evil Star, Black Mass, Shatterfist, that guy w/ the crazy hair and razor fists

Kinda. Without going too off-topic, The original Blockbuster, Mark Desmund, was killed in the comics, and his criminal brother, Roland Desmund, became an intelligent, new version of Blockbuster. In "52", Lex Luthor also created a new Blockbuster.

I even remember The Batman introduced an African-American version of Mark Desmund, but nothing was done with this character.

Re: Poison Ivy. Why did they make her skin pale? Did she get a whiff of Joker gas before the B:GK series?

Re: Catwoman. What was with her? The face is even more pale than Ivy's. But yet when she was out of costume (like the end of Cult of the Cat), she had a normal skin tone, add the fact her hair was short and dark, unlike the original longer, blonde Selina Kyle in B:TAS.
