I just thought that it would be cool to have a post where we all say where we're from and all that - if you like. (But don't say Gotham or something...I'm being serious here.)
Oh, and how about writing how you got interested in Batman in the first place, here - it would be something cool to share with everyone.
"Hi, my name is Tim 'TWO-FACE' Leighton, and I hail from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I got into Batman in 1988, when some syndicated channel out of Seattle (UPN or something) was re-running episodes of the 60's series...and then came the movie a year later...and I was hooked. At my age, it was the darkest and most adult movie I'd seen, and I loved it."
OK, not too hard, now. Howsabout ya'll?

Well I'm from South Dakota, the home of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. I'm live in Sioux Falls when I'm not at school, it's the biggest city in the state.
I first became interested in Batman when my local FOX affiliate began airing the 60s series every weeknight at suppertime. I of course really liked The Penguin from that show. I've been hooked ever since.
I was pre-teen when "Batman" came out in '89, so my parents didn't think I should go and see it after they previewed it.
BTW Tim, you related this thread to Batman so it really isn't off-topic imo.

the initials M.A.H. paralel my handle Matt As Hell which is wordplay on the famous line from the film, Network "I'm mad as Hell, and I'm not take it anymore!" They can also stand for my favorite ep Mad as a Hatter. or my first and last initials M.H. can stand for Mad Hatter my favorite character from Batman, and Alice in Wonderland of which I am also fanatic. I am also working on a script in which the villain is named Miles Hanson, a hybrid of my initials and Charles Manson. The hero's name is Stuart Manor the name of the town I grew up in.
I grew up on Long Island and lived for a year in Yellow Springs, Ohio, I now reside in Seattle, WA. I am 25 years old, male, and my birthday is 7/4/76.
As a kid I was into Marvel and thought DC sucked. Now I wish I had read more DC then and I think it's a little bit better. I was against all the mindless hype when the 1989 movie came out, but my mother told me my cousin was going and I went anyway just to go to the movies. I liked it, but I admit it wasn't until The Animated Series had aired for a little while before I was really drawn into it. When I picked up a collected copy of The Dark Knight Returns at a comic shop, the deal was seeled. Now I'm somewhat obsessed with Batman, particularly as a cultural icon. I am fascinated with the multiple incarnations and reinventions of the character, and I like them all for their artistic diversities. I freely admit to being fond of the Adam West version, and I'm probably the only one here who likes the Schumacher films, considering that I like them for being the visual candied-pap that they are and don't hold them to the standard of other versions of the franchise. Of course Filmation and Hanna Barbera versions are entertaining for the campy cheapness and nothing more. But I love that sort of thing and well I'm just tickled pink.

Candied-pap, yum. :p

Hi, I'm Nick and I'm an alchoholic....er..
Actually, the 23yo Jewish Master Control op currently residing in Lubbock TX doesn't drink. I like puppies, and the internet..
I was first explosed to batman in umm...sometime in the 80s...twas the old 60s show...sure it was campy, but Batman was nice, and it was funny...(was too young to notice some of the other good things in that show...the 60s had some great female costumes...=O )
Anyway, I was re-introduced to Batman when the movie came out....
and re-reintroduced when Fox started Batman TAS...
I'm the proud owner of the Novelizations of both Knightfall & NML, and the BB:RotJ Unrated DVD.
I still like spiderman betterer...(dude, Peter's the man!)

My real name is Austin. I live in a town about 30 miles north of New York City. I'm fifteen as of Tuesday, born on Feb. 19th 1987.
I originally got into Batman from watching the reruns of the '60s TV show. I saw the Batman '89 movie, and loved that. I started watching B:TAS, and that's when I became hooked. I used to rush home every day from school to turn to Fox 5 at 4:00 (or was it 4:30?) and watch it.

This is fun ^-^
My full, real, name is Victoria Ashley Schmidt...although that's actually not what my real last name should be since my dad was adopted...but anyhoo! I have lived in sunny California my whole ife, in what is considered the bratty rich kid area...Orange County....and I swear, if you mention that movie, I'll hunt you down and hurt you.... ...where was I? I haven't a clue exactly when I got interested in Batman, it just seems that I always have been though. I do know that I was somewhere in elementary school, and that it was B:TAS that really got me hooked....rather, it was a certain guy in red, green and gold which got me hooked. I've mostly stayed with the cartoon, and have tried to delve into the comics when I can, but it's never often since comic stores around here are quite few and not exactly as close as I'd like them to be. My mom figured that my Batman craze was just some phase....I think that as the years went by and I didn't give it up, that she knows it's no longer a phase....not to mention the fact that there was a time that I was going as Batgirl every single year and had Batman posters on my walls and went around drawing Batman whenever I could. And now, I'm turning my VW Bug into a virtual Batmobile!

Ahhh, I love getting to know people :) I won't sing the song, but know that I am thinking it.
I'm Alex, formerly of the Midwest. However, I am now a bonafide resident of Lalaland...getting an education far from home, it seems. My major is screenwriting....I'm residing here in pursuit of my dreams. Hopefully, when I graduate, I'll have a few scripts under my belt and be able to take on a job reading scripts (coverage) until I get a break. I plan to intern at some point.
I saw Batman Returns at a pretty young age...it basically terrified me, especially the part wherein Catwoman takes the taser-like device to Max. Of course, that was the point where my older sister grabbed my shoulder to startle me. Gotta love siblings.
However, my sister also introduced me to B:TAS. We watched Blind as a Bat on a Saturday morning...and from then on, I watched whenever I could, sometimes a few times a day. For a glorious time, there was an hour and a half straight Batman if you played your time slots right. BUT- it all stemmed from Batman Forever, which is, I admit, not the best movie, but I had a huge crush on both Jim Carrey and Chris O'Donnell, so....well, let's just say I didn't buy the poster for the beautiful artwork.
So....that's me! I've been hanging around the boards a loooong time... but when the boards made a major change, my computer at home wouldn't let me view messages. But now I'm back and enjoying Bat-conversation!
Alex
PS: Happy Belated Birthday, Austin :)

Andrew LaRue from Oklahoma here. I discovered Batman through I got hooked off of the '89 Batman, then I started seeing re-runs of the 60's Batman, and I of course saw the 60's movie, then B:TAS came out and that was that, I was... A BatJedi! :D

Yeah, it seems to happen the same way for everyone here. Case in point...
Me: Age 8 - 1988
I see my first re-runs of the 60's series, and I'm hooked because, since I was a kid, I always liked colourful characters and battles between good and evil.
Age 9 - 1990
I didn't see BATMAN until it came out on video - it was the biggest "kid movie" I'd ever seen advertised (since Roger Rabbit in '88, anyway), and it was also the darkest and queerest movie I'd seen in my life until that point. I thought it rocked.
Age 12 - 1992
I didn't see BATMAN RETURNS until it came out on video, too, but I also thought it was cool, because, at that time, I thought the movie was "more fun" and "more colourful" than the original - and "I thought the Penguin was just a good guy after all". I was obviously misled, but I loved the movie.
Age 12 - Sept 5, 1992
BTAS debuts one day before my 13th birthday, and even though I originally mocked the commercials for the series on TV (what, a DARK cartoon about Batman? Get real...) I quickly ate my words and was hooked - especially after finding out how extensive his supporting cast was.
Age 14 - April 1994
I get MASK OF THE PHANTASM on video (because I passed up seeing it in theatres for some reason) and LOVED it. it re-sparked my interest in writing, which I hadn't really been passionate about since Grade 5. The only difference is that I really had a taste for the dark and the gothic and the disturbed now.
Age 15 - June 1995
BATMAN FOREVER came out. I was officially hooked on Batman, as this was the first Bat-movie I actually saw in theatre - and yes, I still feel to this day that it was a great movie with just pure entertainment vealue. I begin taping BTAS episodes ASAP, learning that it will be pulled from the FOX schedule over the next two years.
Age 17 - Spring 1997
I finally get the internet, and find a good chunk of people worldwide that also share my passion for the Bat. My interest in this hobby grows and deepens.
Age 17 - June 1997
Crappy movie comes out, makes me more critical of poorly-written stories and movies and such. I also start up my website soonafter.
Age 18 - Fall 1997
I start diehardedly collecting the comics from the past ten years to catch up on everything I'd missed, since until that point, I only REALLY was familiar with the animated continuity and the movies. I AM AN OFFICIAL BAT-FAN WITH MONEY TO SPEND! The merchandise starts to roll in.
Age 18 - July 1998
BATMAN: THE ANIMATED NEWSLETTER makes its debut, quickly gaining momentum. I like to be considered a pillar of Bat-knowledge nowadays, though I don't really know how ACCURATE that is... :-P
I also start writing in to DC Comics with every issue of an ongoing series that I read, hoping to get many many many many many letters printed...and slowly but surely, it happens.
And that's that...it's been like that ever since. A diehard Bat-fan.
And that's my full Bat-history. You can wake up now.

Matt Gibson from Spokane, WA here. I watched the obligatory Batman reruns in the afternoons while growing up (I still love Frank Gorshin's Riddler...if I could replicate that laugh myself I would be a happy man!) and thoroughly loved the '89 Batman movie. The hype was great while not going over the top.
I was transfixed when BTAS came on the air and never missed it. It was even better when I secured a job as a promotions coordinator at the local FOX affiliate and discovered some great BTAS promo stuff in the prize vault!
I'm one of the rare ones who think that the redesign of the show to TNBA was a very good thing. Those few episodes are just pure gold. Loved Superman and even Batman Beyond...although I would give my right arm to find out what happened to most of the villians in the "possible future". We don't have a dedicated WB station here so I was dependent on WGN out of Chicago for my Batfix. When it stopped broadcasting WB content a few years ago I was truly depressed until Cartoon Network wisely began airing the different series again!
Have I gone on long enough?!? ;)

My real name is Brooklyn. I go to school at Cal Poly Pomona, but i'm from el centro (right near Mexicali, BC). I'm double majoring in law and archeology. I'm 19.
I've loved the Batman cartoons ever since the night when my sister forced me to watch them with her. This was her idea of bonding and, since I was ALWAYS watching cartoons, she figured that I might as well watch good ones. I watched Batman religiously ever since. In high school, I was in cheer and we had to constantly march in these asinine parades at ungodly hours every saturday morning. The time difference between arizona and a crappy cable company ment that batman was on really early in the morning. I think the only reason i stayed in cheer was to give myself a reason to watch cartoons. ;)
I recently bought the batman ten cent adventure and am completely hooked. I've read and loved the dark knight returns- and am completely addicted to batman comics right now. I'm reading the dark knight strikes back and i'm reading all four batman titles -plus the ocassional nightwing and batgirl.
My boyfriend couldn't be any more happy with his girlfriend's "geeky hobbies". Two am discussions on the nature of Bruce Wanye's psyche and the eithical delimas of Gotham are always fun. He also gets to read all my comics for free as soon as i'm done with them. ;)
PS: Does anyone know of any great batman comics or compolations i should pick up as new devotee?

Well, my real name is Jay Allman. For the next months, at least, I'm teaching philosophy at SUNY-Oswego.
I watched reruns of the Adam West "Batman" as a kid, and was vaguely aware that the comics were darker. But I never got into comic books at all. It was BTAS that turned me on to Batman, really. The show premiered the first semester I was in grad school. That show, "The Simpsons" and reruns of John K's "Ren and Stimpy" kept me sane that first year. At the end of grad school I was going wonky from my dissertation, and distracted myself by starting to compose an episode guide (link in my signature). That's my bit.

My name's Rich. I've been into Batman since the Adam West re-runs, and I really enjoyed the '89 movie. Saw it at the drive-in as a double feature with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...awesome drive-in experience. Anyhoo...
My interest really caught on with the animated series, which I've always thought was great.

Robert Evatt here, mild-mannered business reporter for a miniscule newspaper by day, vengeful yet wacky mod by night. Like so many others, I didn't give Batman more than a passing glance before I saw BTAS. I'd go on and on about the stylish art, complex psychology and lush orchestration of the show that got me hooked on the Bat, but I'm sure this crowd is a bit familiar with that. ;)
