View Full Version : When computers make you angry...

Over the weekend, my 3-month old laptop's hard drive went "POP!" At first I thought it was due to one too many hits to the reset button thus giving it a shock to the system. It turns out it just plain received one to many physical hits out of frustration due to temper. :(

Lesson learned: Laptops have feelings too. Get angry with them, and they'll stop working for you.

So how do you deal with the general frustrations that computers can cause you (like not encoding a heavily involved DVD menu (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=204263)) One person suggests that I get a punching bag and beat that up. Any other solutions?

Take a trip to the batting cages every once in a while. It's a great way to get rid of some rage that needs to come out. If baseball isn't your thing, I suggest some physical activity such as jogging or any sport you like.

I put my left hand over my face, lean my head down and go: AAAAAAAAUUUUGGGGH!!! in an anguished tone.

Well, thats what my brother does with his shotgun and his .22 he got for chirstmas. Although, airsoft was my outlit for anger/fun my junior year of HS with some friends of mine at the time. That was my weekly therapy i needed, seeing how, i hated my junior year of HS...

Pound things...that usually leave me worse for wear afterwards. :p

When my computer goes into its frequent piece of **** mode, I end up kicking the desk, punching the desk, shaking the desk, or groaning really loud in an angry way. That's after I go on a 30 minute rant, however.

Oh man, this reminds me of my days with my good ol trusty, Gateway Desktop from 1999. That was my personal PC when my mom got her IBM, which I wound up screw up anyways. Then later i added some ram to the Gateway, rebooted it with Windos 2K, and ran pretty decent after that.

All it really needs, is a big HD and some updates. It was a 20 Gig HD, hardly anything special (I had 2 20 gig in there, then i tired to install WoW on the one i was storing my stuff on, and it completely whipped it clean. Which i got my Compaq Pesario, still runs decent after 2 years). Still runs surprisingly...

I can get very frustrated when my computer completely freezes up to the point that I can't even move my mouse and have to manually restart it, or my connection to the internet keeps getting disconnected. I usually just swear out loud and pound on my desk.

When they freeze or lag, it is so frustrating I have to resist punching a hole through the screen.

I go watch TV.
That's my solution to everything.

I had a roommate in college who was a gun nut. Any time a piece of electronica went irreparably south on any of us, we'd take it out into the woods and pump it full of rounds. Good fun, that.

Has anyone heard any "horror stories" about people using RoadRunner on their older computer and the computer ended up getting destroyed?
I just got RoadRunner back on for my computer (had it almost six or seven years), and now I'm a little bit worried.

No...very worried...:crying:

When ever I have to fix the computer for my family since I seem to be tech savvy with computers, it always comes at the most innapropriate times for me, no matter how small the trouble is.

Also having to deal with Dell Tech support almost made me insane.

No matter how much my computer upsets me, I never take out my anger on it. When the revolution comes, I want it to put in a good word for me with Skynet.

I hardly ever find myself getting mad at a computer to that point - it's just not a hot button for me and I can almost always find a viable solution to my problem.

I do have some mad issues with video and computer games, though, and I find it very hard to restrain myself from throwing the controller/keyboard violently on the floor. I've broken only one keyboard so far, however, and the only controller I've broken was a third party PSOne controller that I snapped the top of the analogue stick off of while playing Street Fighter Alpha 3.

I don't think I've ever been more violent than with my Xbox 360 controller, though. The stickers on the back are litterally falling off from the force of being slammed down so many times, yet everything about the controller still works perfectly somehow. My biggest thing seems to be with Halo 3, ATM, because it seems like I'll do really well, winning every single match in Lone Wolves up till I reach level 37... at that point, though, no matter how well I play or who I'm matched against (I could be matched against a bunch of 33s and 34s well below me) the game is determined to constantly spawn me in just the wrong places where I die each time almost within seconds, with nothing I can do.

That happens a couple of times till I'm knocked back down to 35, where I'll again be able to beat even 38s and 39s till I get back up to level 37. My first reflex before I can even think to calm down is to throw the controller as hard as I can against the ground or beat on it with my fist.

Interesting stories you have there about computer troubles, particularly the Terminator reference. Just wanted to let you all know that my computer is back in working order and nearly almost back to the way it was. I have decided to use Time Machine to regularly back up my computer should the hard drive fail again, which I hope does not happen.

Of course, the real issue here is the anger situation.
