I went out to buy Animaniacs Volumes 2 and 3 today, and could not find a single copy. I went to 3 Best Buys, and one of them checked their computer and showed not a single copy was in any store, 6 Targets, 4 Walmarts, a used DVD shop, and I even went as low as going to 2 Circuit Citys. WTF is the deal man??????????

My Toys R Us has them but you'll be paying msrp for them there. I think it was 45 for each. It would probably be cheaper to get them on amazon with two day shipping.
I got mine at Sam's Club a few months ago for $25-27. I don't know if they still have them though.

I haven't noticed them in the stores for awhile, but I haven't been looking for them either. A quick glance at Amazon today shows them at $32.99 each. There's always that.........

I almost always see a couple copies at my Best Buy, and sometimes WalMart, too.

I don't have a difficultly finding copies at my local Target and Best Buy. Either way, it wouldn't really matter to me, as I already own all three sets.

Not everyone has a card, though.

Very true. But do said people also not have a bank card or a checking account? I'm sure there are some people like that left in this country, but dang, kids who still live at home notwithstanding, I can't imagine going through life without at least a checking account. What do people do, cash their paychecks and stuff it all in a jar?....

All the stores told me they were sent back to the manufacturer at the beginning of last month for online sales only.

My Circuit City has a few of them...

Best Buy. There's your problem right there, man. Best Buy never wants to keep a DVD on their shelves longer than 2 months, let alone a year or so when these came out (unless it's a movie). I had bad experiances that involved hundreds of unsellable Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2 sets.

If there are any indie retailers around your area, there may be a few left on the shelves.

I couldn't find Patton: Cinema Classics Collection at my Best Buy even a year after its release! Five years old, I can see. But one? And it's not like Patton's some obscure movie- it's a cinema classic!

Oh and don't get me started on the whole "We only sell Christmas movies at Christmas time" stuff. Some of us like to watch movies that take place at the holidays at OTHER times of the year, ya know.

Anyway, on topic, I don't know how you feel about buying something used, but sometimes GameStop/EB Games/whatever sell used DVDs, including season sets. I've seen seasons go for as little as $20, so you might want to give that a shot too.

Well, I finally found it at a Barnes & Nobles of all places. Granted, I ended up paying $41 for it rather than BB's $35, but at least I have it now. Now I have to hunt down Pinky & the Brain 2 and 3 sometime down the line.

BTW, when is Animaniacs Volume 4 coming out?

It's not announced yet. WB plans on releasing the first volumes of Tiny Toons and Freakazoid first. Hopefully after those two sets get released (before would be nice too), we'll hear some news, and I hope WB just doesn't stop without releasing vol. 4.

I'd rather they finished Animaniacs and Pinky Elmira and the Brain before they start a brand new series. As much as I loved Tiny Toons, I'd rather just have the Summer Vacation movie (uncut) than anything else. :p

Oh yeah, which episode of Animaniacs had Ben Stein when he was just droning on to the Warners through the tnire thing?

"Chairman of the Bored," vol. 2.

I hope the uncut movie's a bonus feature on one the sets, instead of the cut up, 4 part episode they made from it. I forget what they cut from the movie when it was put into 4 parts, but I think some good Plucky/Hampton's family bits got axed.

Yeah, they cut a lot from that part out, they edited down the skunk girl's scenes a bit, Gogo's area had been shortened, hell, I believe there was like 15-20 minutes removed.

Among other things, Keeper informed a bunch of us on the Tiny Toons DVD thread that they're having issues with the Macadamia Nut number, since it really isn't a sound a like type parody, and actually uses the real tune.

So you see why I hate Best Buy. They don't even offer good prices anymore. They have a decent anime selection, but nothing much else.

I disagree. I s've seen stores wanting $80 for a TV series that BB had for $55, if not less. HBO's stuff is an utter rip off unless you by it from Best Buy. As for anime, every store I've gone to that is not BB want SRP for it. Hell, BB has Voltron for $22.99 where everyone else I've seen wanted like $45 for it.

Certain things are better priced there than others, but quite a few things I tend to find cheaper at independant stores... which is ironic in and of itself, since you'd think the Indie places would be the most expensive, as they aren't a big retail chain. I think when I actually saw two Pinky and the Brain sets there before Christmas, they were 40 something dollars. I wound up paying 40 bucks for my P&B set, but after taxes. So there's a range of prices between it is a good buy and you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

When Pinky and the Brain Volume Three came out last year, we also had the first volume for $7.99. Granted, it was a mistake that was corrected later that week, but it was $7.99 for three whole days before it was discovered.

I'm glad that you managed to track down your Animaniacs DVDs. For at least a month, they have been registered as "deleted" status in our inventory system. Basically, this means that once all the remaining stock has been sold or if it is requested for a "pull/send back", we are not going to get additional stock, unless there is an advertised sale for it somewhere down the line. After the sale ends, however, it's back to the distributor.:(

I know that Pinky and the Brain Volumes two and three are still available at the store where I am currently working. I can't say how long that will last, but at least it lets you know that there are still Best Buys that carry them.:D

Thanks for the love for Best Buy. I wouldn't still be working for the company if I didn't enjoy it. It's not perfect, but what in life is?:) I've had more difficulty at other retailers than I have ever had with Best Buy. Last January, I went to Circuit City to purchase some DVDs that were on sale for a cheaper price there since I did not feel like price matching. I found the DVDs in one of those messy dump bins within a few minutes, but it took me an hour, no kidding, to get checked out. I was the second person in line. I'm not venturing into a Circuit City again. I'll just price match next time. I don't know about other Best Buys, but I can tell you that if you walk into mine, I will help you with what you need to the best of my ability.:D I even have a notebook that I put together on my own time that has a list of upcoming DVD releases sorted by date and genre, an additional DVD release list for high definition and UMD releases, an upcoming release list for music, an upcoming release list for video games and software, an explanation of the various video game consoles/portable systems, and a list of important web sites. I care too much.:D

So, yeah. I wish you luck tracking down your Pinky and the Brain DVDs, Hades. Dr. Tooth, if there is any information I can provide you with, feel free to ask.

Don't hate on the brick-n-mortars. Their objective is to maximize their floorspace for optimal profitability. Customers don't want to see stale products during each visit. I advise you purchase new titles when they're new, otherwise you may need to turn to dvd warehouses online for older titles.

Yeah, he was in a few scenes.

Anarky, I agree, stores can only carry so much, and there is so much out there that it would be impossible for a store to carry every single DVD released. Hell, you would probably have to combine 4 Super Walmarts together to be able to fit every series and movie.

It would probably be a little better if we didn't receive more copies than we actually need of movies that obviously won't sell well. For example, when Rush Hour 3 came out, we received close to one thousand copies, combining the single and two-disc editions. I don't think the box-office numbers warranted such a large shipment. We could have used that space to put some more deserving film up for display. The problem with at least some of the general public seems to be that even if the movie is incredibly bad, they'll still buy it. I'm not saying this is entirely bad. It's good for the store. I just don't like seeing customers walk out with bad movies. I can't recommend that they buy a bad movie and will give them my honest opinion if asked, recommending a better film. However, if it's their choice to buy a bad movie, I'm not going to stop them all the time, either. Freedom of choice.
