Gray made his first appearance in the Sinnoh region
Dawn got Coin Flip for her Poketech
We saw Paul again trying to catch a Ferrow, but that’s it.
And we have final made it to Hearthome City where Dawn wasn’t able to get past the first round of the Hearthome Contest.
Also, the gym leader appears to be gone, so our heroes will try to pass the time by participating in the Tag Team Tournament.

Ash, Dawn, Brock, and even Paul will participate in a Tag Team Tournament where everyone will be paired with a random partner. Can Brock keep his focus off of the girls, can Dawn trust her partner, and can Ash and Paul work together long enough to make it to the finals?
Tag! We’re It…!
Glory Blaze!
Smells Like Team Spirit!

Notes:
There are 3 new episodes Friday the 1st starting at 8:00pm, so don’t forget to watch during Fried Dynamite.
There are four episodes on Saturday the 2nd (Dawn’s Early Night and the Tag Tournament encore)
This month will prove to be much more exciting than last month.
Reruns of D/P are on 7:00am and 3:00pm weekdays as well as 10:30am Sundays.
And don’t forget, this year is a leap year, so have fun of February 29th; it only comes around once every four years.
Edit: New Episodes will be on hold for awhile. There will still be reruns on Saturday mornings.
And don’t forget to watch Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai February 24th
sounds like a good month, episode-wise, important stuff hapening.

Hmmmm… perhaps. I hate tvguide.com right now because they are not telling me anything. They have “No Description Available” listed for several episodes down the road.
I’ll just put a Tentative sign on for now.
But I am looking forward to tonight’s episodes. They look promising.

I was hoping to find out why Paul he is the way he is, when they showed the flashback, but I know immedately that in that flashback Paul was still the same jerk he is. You know you are a jerk, if you are too much of a jerk for Team Rocket.
Am I the only one who thought that Conway or however you spell his name was creppy. That guy is weird, what did he mean by Ash is the enemy? Does he have a crush on Dawn, and think there is something between Ash and Dawn, and thus Ash is the enemy, or is it because they were opponents in the tournement. Does anyone think Conway and Paul are related?
It is nice to see old Pokemon and new ones as well.
And poor Brock, he can't get a break. If these girls knew about Brock's past, when he raised all of his young siblings, could someone tell them about that, because I think most girls would find that sweet.

I admit, that would be the best battle ever since Gary and Ash back in Johto. Cause we have a long way to go and don't know what pokemon they'll capture in the future. After all this saga is a little unpredictable now.
As for the episode, I liked all three parts, the part where Chimchar was abandon made me upset, and curse at my TV at the same time, even though I was playing my DS, and knew what was going to happen.:crying:
I'm glad Chimchar is with a trainer that will treat him right. Here hoping that he evolves into Inferanpe and wipes out a Majority of Paul's party in the future.
Also for Dawn and Brock Partner, I liked them, Conway (I think that how it is spelled) was funny as I saw a bit of Pokemon fandom, and an older version of Max inside of him, his party was awesome, I hope that he along with Nando appear in the Sinnoh Pokemon League Finals. Holly was funny when she declined Brock flirting, her disdain for his flirting with Joy, and giving Heart eyes during the montage. Too bad she wanted to improve herself, or Brock would have someone who returned his love, despite some age difference.
Can't wait for the next episode, that one made me feel warm inside.
You know, I thought for ten years that Heracross always had a dopey smile on its face, only to finally realize tonight that the "smile" is actually the lower part of its head.
That Conway guy was pretty suspicious. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of him later on...
All in all, very good fights tonight. Paul continues to be ruthless in his training, something that I'm sure will catch up to him eventually. I really hope to see a rematch between Ash and Paul where Chimchar takes down Paul's Pokemon. Poetic justice at its finest.
"It's Battle Time!"? That line is so lame, it makes me cry for Digimon Data Squad's "It's Fighting Time!"

Even though everyone here might hate Paul (I don't, I think he's awesome), you have to admit that he's one of the best additions to the show in years. He adds something to the show that we never had before: a slave driver trainer.
This actually worked very well as a "special" since it didn't flow like three episodes together, if only they had edited the episode titles it would have felt like a true "special"
Did Ash really need to win? Even loosing Chimchar could have seen Ash was a different kind of trainer that would not punish him for loosing so the "chimchar" plot would have still worked.
Dawn's partner reminded me a lot of Max, in fact thats exactly how I think Max would be if he was older, hope we see him again.
The "trailer" for the movie was a pretty stupid and pointless clip, in fact the advertisements they showed throughout the special did a much better job in hyping the movie, at least to me.

That's why people love and hate him. As a character we like him because he's exactly what this show needed, but then we hate him because of the way he treats his Pokemon.
In any case, I hope Paul sticks around for a long time to come. Although part of me thinks he's only going to be here till the end of Sinnoh, but I guess we'll see.

I do admit I like Paul as much as I like a heel wrestler. He the kind of guy that I like, and like to hate, and wish that he gets what coming to him for his ways. Sure he a better rival than Gary was back in the Kanto/Johto days, so he actually something that this show needs. But that still no excuse for how he treats his pokemon.
Also on a sidenote I discovered that Conway's was voiced by the same person as Harley, so if you get the same weird vibe from Harley as you do this guy, there your reason.

Paul is what this show needed. In a flood of happy go lucky trainers... Or decent trainers... Or mean trainers who are just silly... We needed a serious ass like Paul.
We're not supposed to like how he treats his Pokemon. But that's what makes him stand out. To tell you the truth, I hope he DOESN'T change 'till a little while. 'Cause then he'll just turn into how Gary is now (or at least after Kanto) -- uninteresting.

That was an excellent special ever with all the cool tag-team tournament battles & Paul is once again the world's biggest abusive monster/butthead who's one of the most worst villains in the world ever on bashing on poor Chimchar, but it was good when Chimchar finally joins Ash's team:D & one day Paul will get his just desserts for his cruel ways of lousy crappy trainerhood.
Dawn's partner Conway was cool which we hope he comes back since he's very strange, mysterious, intelligent, suspicious, & fishy when he said about Ash being the enemy & poor Brock when Holly left him but one day another girl will like Brock in the future besides Suzy the breeder & Lucy the gymleader which those girls like Brock.

These episodes were def the best episodes of Pokemon ever. Now I've loved the show since the very first saga and have my favorite episodes over the past episodes but these take the cake. Ash/Paul rivalry def is the coolest thing about D/P. I mean you can tell how much hatred there is between the two. And the spoilers I have on them just gets more and more intresting between them :D
Dawn's tag partner was intresting and they were pretty cool together. Question is will he return and maybe be an enemy to Ash? What kind of an enemy if so?
I think I liked Brocks tag team second best. They had great chemistry together. Too bad she left, I'd like it for her to return.
My favorite of all is Ash/Paul it was spicey. But yah I have to admit it, there was a few times that I wanted to throw my shoe at him
The music was ok, didn't mind that. Battles were def amusing. Voice actors were very good here. All the characters were fun, even Brock for the first time in along time was fun and intresting. I was actually excited and rooting for him :D
But yah it was the best arc ever. This goes to show what a good show can do after staying on for along time.
Edit;
Can't wait for the movie next.

Conway was an interesting character... I wonder if he'll pop up again.
Paul is his usual self. Honestly I'm suprised he and Ash won but eh... whatever. At least Chimchar is in better hands now and someday he'll prove Paul wrong.
Poor Brock, no luck. I loved how Holly shot him down initially and Crogunk was ready to jab him but decided he already had felt enough pain.
And I'm not sure if I'm just hearing things but especially when Holly yelled she sounded like Ash so I wonder if Sarah was voicing Holly as well.
In other news... Zathura. *bangs head on a desk in frustration*
I suppose Jumanji did do alright on CN so it would be a likely choice for a follow-up but man... They need to stop with this live-action crap.

I don't see how the show needed Paul's prescence. This show is beyond saving and if anything, Paul contributes to making the show worse! It's one thing to be an jerkass but for the show to get better, he needs to be an interesting jerkass! And so far, I just aint seeing it.
Oh, and where'd you get the idea that Gary is uninteresting just because he stopped being obnoxious? IMHO, he was a better rival than Paul and he's still more watchable. :p

Its because we hardly ever saw Gary. After Kanto, he's only in 2 Orange episodes (the last two at Pallet), and during the entire 150 episode span of Johto he only shows up 3 times before the tournament.
Gary wasn't so much a rival because he never showed up. Paul has already appeared more within the first 50 eps of D/P than Gary did for all of Orange and Johto.

I think I may have figured out what Paul's deal is. He gave clues about himself in two episodes.
Top Down Training: He said he lost The Johto, Kanto, and Hoenn League.
Glory Blaze: He said he wanted powerful enough pokemon to win the Sinnoh League.
I am starting to see a pattern. What if Paul is doing this to make someone proud of him or prove a point. Like someone on the web said. Previews never give out all the details. Some of us saw the Japanese preview. We saw Paul's brother, but it didn't say we get to see Paul's dad. I wonder what he is like. Paul almost seems like the type of sport dad who works his kids to death. What if his dad treated him the same way growing up?

But there was at least something personal tying Ash and Gary together in their rivalry. Ash and Paul? They are only rivals because Paul is a jerk, plain and simple. And, IMO, that does not make an interesting rivalry or character. :raven:

But you know... Blake could make a decent Luffy.
It makes me wonder what Toonami's bumpers would be like if it was also hosted by Blake and co. Probably quite similar. And to their credit... it works.

I saw the three episodes today on Dynamite Action Squad. I thought it was interesting that Chimchar actually wanted to go through all that intense training, but I think Paul still went overboard. It was nice finally learnining a little bit about how Chimchar came to be with Paul.
Ash and Paul actually could be a good, dynamic team. They need to set aside their differences though.

But there was at least something personal tying Ash and Gary together in their rivalry. Ash and Paul? They are only rivals because Paul is a jerk, plain and simple. And, IMO, that does not make an interesting rivalry or character. :raven:
Wo, wo you can't be telling me Gary is more intresting than Paul? Sure he's a jerk but what makes the rivalry intense between Ash and Paul is that there polar oppisots. Gary and Ash had that hate/friendly rivalry thing, but you can just tell the hate between Ash and Paul. It makes things more fun for this saga. Its like Sasuke/Naruto from series 1, Sasuke was the jerk you loved to hate. He betrayed his friends and wanted to kill Naruto to gain more power like his brother. Yes I watch both shows. Any who Paul is like that, only he's a we bit different, he just treats his Pokemon horrible. He hates Ash becuase he thinks Ash is a weak trainer and keeps getting in his way. Ash hates Paul becuase he treats Pokemon like there nothing and doesn't even take them to Nurse Joy when it needs help. But things will shift I'm sure of it, Paul will become the weak trainer while Ash will slowly gain the upper hand over him. Just wait and see it will be all like Sasuke/Naruto. Where Sasuke couldn't admit that Naruto was getting stronger than him and he gets more and more angry about it. Now I wonder if Paul will turn to the dark side like Sasuke did in order to gain more power with his Pokemon. I'm going to estimate this may happen after Ash wins the leauge. Paul may start to hate Ash more and more as he gets stronger as the series goes on. That's what makes there rivalry more intense. I really think it will end up this way as it goes on down the road. I don't see Paul taking the Gary path, he's too serious and looks too have more anger in him. And to see what he thinks the weakling Ash beat him, I have a feeling he will be more angry and full of hate to Ash. It just doesn't seem to be Pauls style to forget the past and try to be like Ash. Unlesss they plan to have Paul join Ash team in the 5th gen if he becomes good. Than it def would be like Naruto/Sasuke friendship, where Ash says some thing stupid and Paul would just hit him for it. But I don't see that happening. I'm just trying to explaine why Ash/Paul rivalry is the best thing in D/P saga yah know?

Couldn't really read that paragraph (spacing please!), but yeah Paul and Ash are opposites...but then so is damn near everyone else. Anyone could have been a rival to him, not just Ash, so IMO the rivalry falls flat. One of the best things in the D/P saga? Meh, I could care less, but then not much of this show in general is all that good anyway...
It's one thing to be an jerkass but for the show to get better, he needs to be an interesting jerkass! And so far, I just aint seeing it.
I think we should give the show more time before deciding if Paul is uninteresting. Ash only has two badges - the story is going to get a lot more complicated later on, when Team Galactic shows up and there's the whole dynamic between Dialga, Palkia, and the Psychic trio (Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie). Paul could very well be involved in that, seeing as how he was born in Veilstone City, which also serves as TG's headquarters. There hasn't been much opportunity to show why Paul is the way he is.
Given that the next Japanese episode takes place in Veilstone, and we already know that Paul's brother is in it, we're sure to see some development there.

Is it just me, or does Natochenny's Ash sound very girly in these episodes?
Nope. I thought of that too throughout the three episodes. I think that's one of the areas of her voice that she needs to work on.
For Ash, his way is the reason why most of his Pokemon are not fully evolved. Ash needs to change strategy if he wants to win the Sinnoh League......hopefully.
I usually don't mind if Ash's Pokemon aren't fully evolved. Especially if they're already seriously strong. I don't think that his Bulbasaur or Squirtle would be any better in their evolved forms. Even so, I do think that his Johto team could have evolved more, especially since unlike some of his Kanto Pokemon, there were no signs of not wanting to evolve, but they were also pretty strong. At least Cynaquil was. Anyway, even though Ash wants to win the Sinnoh League, I don't think that he would put that above the health and happiness of his Pokemon. From what I can tell from his current team, they're strong already and maybe they don't have to evolve to get stronger.
Anyway, these episodes were so great that I had to see the repeats this morning. They were that good. During all three of these episodes, my mouth was practically dropping to the floor. To keep my comments all organized, I'll divide them into their own episodes.
"Tag, We're It!...": Now this was a great way to start off the three part episode saga. I was surprised to see that the tag team battle tournament was three days long since I thought that it was only a day tournament. Dawn's partner Conway was pretty creepy to me when he first showed up, but he grew on me as the special continued. I can see why people thought that he was an older version of Max and I agree with that. I felt so bad for Brock when Holly shot him down like that. Poor guy, but I'm glad that Croagunk didn't hit him since he felt bad enough. Of course, Ash has to get Paul as his partner. And the sparks will fly.
I was surprised by the battle between Dawn and Conway. I appeared more like a know-it-all then. I was definitely shocked that Sycther could be defeated with one Peck attack. Either Piplup is stronger than I thought or that was one weak Sycther. At least Koffing's defeat actually made sense. I also liked the tag battle with Brock and Holly. He took charge of the situation with Sudowoodo and it paid off for them with a win. At least that's when Holly started to like Brock.
Not too long before their battle, I was amazed that Paul called Chimchar's Flamethrower weak. That's a lot of power there and it's coming from a small Pokemon. Of course it's strong. I was kind of surprised that he remembered that saying from the last episode that he appeared in.
As for their battle, wow. Talk about lack of partnership. Paul is just a downright jerk. I'm surprised that no one remembered Pikachu's battle with Blaine's Rydon way back in Kanto where he beat it by aiming at the horn. But that was a completely different time. Pikachu was able to use great timing with its Iron Tail in order to block Chimchar from the Surf attack and beat Rydon at the same time. Chimchar did a great job by knocking out Magmar at the same time. Despite their mismatched trainers, I thought that Pikachu and Chimchar did a great job working as a team. I also love their thumbs up to each other at the end. Too bad Ash and Paul just can't work together.
"Glory Blaze": Wow. This was a seriously intense episode. When I saw Chimchar's Flamethrower going that high, I thought that you would have to be a complete idiot to think that it was weak. Then again, Paul is a complete jerk so he was still blinded. It was so cute that Chimchar actually cared about hitting Ash like that and it was so nice that Ash seemed so caring still for it. Paul saying that working on its strong points is like babying a spoiled brat? Come on. Now that's sad. If you work on a Pokemon's strong points, then they'll be able to overcome their weaknesses. I agreed with Ash on how there's easier ways for Chimchar to get stronger. Ways that don't involved being physically abused. Poor Chimchar. I started to feel so sad for the poor thing.
It was funny to see Brock hitting on Nurse Joy and Holly looking jealous. Croagunk still seem fine with being with Holly and not jabbing Brock. That was a nice change of pace. Conway still seems a bit weird to me, but he was growing on me.
I can't believe how far Paul wanted to go with training Chimchar. There's training to get stronger and then there's downright cruelty. Hitting Chimchar with all of those strong attacks and expecting it to just get up and then telling Elekid to wake it up with Thunder? That's it. Let me just crush all of his Pokemon in a single battle. I wanted to just grab him by the neck and ask him who in their right mind would allow him to be a trainer. Paul is the most cruel trainer that I have ever seen. I was so glad that Pikachu took the blow with Volt Tackle and Ash took charge by saying that he was taking Chimchar to the Pokemon Center right away.
Brock does have excellent skills as a breeder and as a Pokemon doctor. I'm glad that Chimchar was doing better and it just needed some rest. I'm also glad that Brock made the point to Paul that Chimchar will either continue to get stronger or be emotionally scared for life and I definitely think that it's on that way. I was surprised that Paul said that they all want the same thing. We also get to see Chimchar's past and how Paul caught it. Those were some seriously strong and scary Zangoose. I felt so bad for Chimchar since it was so frightened and it was able to unlease that incredible power. That was one seriously strong Flame Wheel. I was still upset with Paul when he said that he wanted Chimchar for himself since it sounded like he didn't even care about any of its feelings.
I started to get seriously upset with Paul on how he wanted to continue to train Chimchar, even though its health depends on getting rest. I'm glad that Nurse Joy was manage to come in and back up Ash and his friends. I was hoping that would do it since he usually shows respect to his elders.
After seeing that Dawn and Brock won their tag team battles, I was interested in how Ash and Paul would do. When Paul called out Chimchar for battle and it still looked weak and tired, I was ready pouch on him with my Lucario. I couldn't believe that Paul could be that heartless to Chimchar. Even though I'm questioning if he even has a heart. I'm glad that Ash was actually worried about it. Metagross and Zangoose were some interesting battlers. I couldn't believe that Paul wanted Chimchar to attack Zangoose like that, even though he knew how scared it was when he first saw it. I'm sure that it caused Chimchar some serious psychological and emotional damage. I can't believe that Paul wanted Chimchar to attack Turtwig. He could have easily attacked Metagross and avoided Turtwig. I was with Ash on what's wrong with Paul.
I was so sad for Chimchar when Paul wanted it to attack Zangoose. I don't blame it for being scared. That Zangoose's face was just plain scary and I felt afraid myself. But at least Turtwig helped out and Chimchar helped it out by blocking the Fire Blast. I was so mad at Paul for literally turning his back to Chimchar during the match. He is beyond cruel. I'm glad that Ash was able to take charge and they won the match.
When Paul released Chimchar, I was ready to just grab him again and just shake him so hard. I seriously wanted to put my teams against his and I still do. Leaving his fate to Team Galaetic is too kind. Let me be the decision maker for his fate. That might be going overboard, but it's the intense rage at his character talking. Anyway, I was just as surprised as Ash and his friends since Paul seemed like wanted to make Chimchar stronger, but he just didn't like its battle with Zangoose. I was tearing up inside and out when Chimchar walked away and feeling so depressed. I was so glad that Ash offered Chimchar a spot on his team. Chimchar needs a caring trainer. Paul's comment on how both of them are pathetic was beyond low. The way Chimchar was looking at Ash when he was holding out his hand was touching my heart strings. I'm so glad that they decided to air all of these episodes together.
"Smells Like Team Spirit!": I continued to feel the happiness and sadness in Chimchar's eyes when Ash wanted to let it come with them. Chimchar deserves a loving trainer and its way too good for Paul anyway. Team Rocket coming in was kind of random, but I'm glad that it showed even further that Chimchar is strong. Paul seeing the explosion like that and walking away still shows how much of a jerk he is. I'm so happy for Chimchar when Ash caught it. Seeing Pikachu on Ash's shoulder and Chimchar on the other was just so adorable. Chimchar needs a hug. Dawn's comment on Prof. Oak's poem was kind of strange. I'm sure her love for his poems will get more annoying if they show up again.
A battle with Brock and Holly against Ash and Paul? That sounds cool. Seeing Chimchar like that was still so cute. Staravia and Torterra was a pretty good match up for Croagunk and Farfetch'd. Torterra was so strong that it actually scared me. It didn't need to move at all, but it still beat both Croagunk and Farfetch'd without breaking a sweat. He wouldn't even let Staravia help, but he's not much for team spirit. His look to Chimchar could kill. I felt so bad for Brock when he learned that Holly went away like that. A girl that liked him for what he is and she just left. Too bad. Another look from Paul to Ash that could kill. Paul must have some problems.
And now the final match. Dawn and Conway against Ash and Paul. This should be good. I was so happy that Ash wanted to finish the Tag Battle Tournament with Chimchar. It is way too good and cute for Paul to use. Buizel and Heracross was a good match up. In the heat of the intense battles and my incredible dislike for Paul, I actually forgot that Dawn had a Buizel. Ash was able to use Chimchar's attacks quite well, especially for just getting it the day before. Elekid seemed scary strong before, but it became so much stronger as an Eletabuzz. I was kind of surprised when it did that. Despite the fact that Ash and Paul cannot get along, their Pokemon attacks were able to combine quite nicely for the win. Even though Paul continued to say that Chimchar's Flamethrower was weak and that he was the one that made them win, Ash still said that Chimchar was great and it was. It was so nice to see Chimchar so happy and Ash complementing it. That's how you treat Pokemon.
It was amazingly ironic that the team that didn't show any kind of team spirit or partnership with one another was the team to win the tournament. It was so cute to see Ash and all of his Pokemon that he used jumping up for joy. Those soothe bells did have a wonderful sound to them. Man, it was so mean of Paul to just throw the bell at Ash and saying that he has no use for it. It looks like the gangs heading towards Veilstone City next. I do remember Paul saying to Cynthia that he was from Veilstone City. Hopefully we'll see what made Paul such a jerk. I'm so happy that Chimchar has a trainer that loves it now. It deserve some tender loving care.
After watching these episodes and seeing how Paul is, it's official; Paul is the cruelest trainer this show has ever seen. I have kind of a love-hate thing with him. I love how he is so radically different from Ash's other rivals and what he brings to the show. I think that Ash needed a rival like this, instead of another friendly rival. I really like Morrison as a friendly rival, especially since his battle with Ash was pretty cool in the Honnen Leauge. Gary barely appeared during Kanto and he was more of an annoying stuck up guy more than a rival. Paul is the best rival in the series because of how is practically the exact opposite of Ash in every form.
At the same time, I absolutely hate how he treats his Pokemon. He didn't even treat Chimchar as a living creature. He only saw it as a source of power and his desire for that power blinded him to how it felt about all of this abuse. That is just cruel.
I would also like to know more about Paul's past. After showing up so often during the first season alone and causing such intense clashes with Ash, it would such a shame if the writers just left him as a jerk with no background. Hopefully we'll get some of that in the next season. Another thing that I hope will happen in the future is an Ash vs. Paul six-on-six battle. That sounds like something made out of epic win already. That could easily be even better than Ash vs. Gary in the Johto League. If that does happen, and I really hope that it does, I hope that Chimchar, or one of its evolve forms if it chooses to evolve, is able to beat a good load of Paul's team. Or maybe it could be the one Pokemon that defeats Paul's last few Pokemon and earns Ash the win. Sweet, sweet revenge for Chimchar for having to deal with all of that physical and emotional abuse.
Overall, these were some of the best D/P episodes yet. Like I mentioned earlier, it was a great thing that all three of these episodes were aired together. Not only does it give off the feeling of a season finale, but it had a wonderful flow of a special. Excellent episodes and it will be wonderful to see the new movie in a couple of weeks after this.
My goodness, this was a seriously long post. It's probably my longest one yet. My fingers feel the burn.

Okay, I didn't mention it earlier, but I think I'll complain about it now. This is the third straight time Poke'Mon USA has classified the semi-finals as the quarterfinals. They really need to get this correction made, and they need to do it now. I could understand one time as a mistake, but three straight times tells me they don't care if they're accurate or not.

Question: Are the soothe bells of any importance?
Well in the games they help pokemon evolve through happiness. In the show, Buneary could possibly evolve with them.
But then again Buneary is such a cute Pokemon I doubt the writers will evolve it. Now they tend to evolve Ash's Pokemon but stick the female character with all the cute Pokemon.

See how good Pokemon can still be when Team Rocket doesn't ruin the second half of each episode? If only they'd limit Team Rocket's appearances to 3 minutes per every 3 episodes all the time...
Easily the best episodes of DP so far.

The only thing that made Gary interesting was that he was there first. Most of what he did was show up, throw Ash childish insults, and then disappear.

Now this is more like it! If every episode was like these 3 episodes, we would have a great series! Paul is a character who I just love to hate, and the battle themselves were just awesome! In complete agreement... all three rank up among some of the best of D/P so far, if not right at the top. I'm glad that the writers still put out the best in the really big episodes - particularly this 'out-of-the-way' Tag Battle.
Major points I wanna cover:
Dawn's partner, Conway - At first, he came across as the 'I'm gonna take advantage of you' type in a very creepy way. But Dawn, and us the viewers, quickly came around when we saw how good he was at strategy. Dawn bought into it, and that was the right move because they did exactly what partners should do - cover each others' strengths and weaknesses. Which exactly explains why they made it all the way to the title match.
Brock's partner, Holly - Here, it's Holly who's brought to appreciate Brock's talents. Despite Brock's trademark flirting techniques, Holly comes around when she realizes how impressively skilled Brock is and feels confident their combined strength is enough to win the tournament. There have been very few girls that have actually felt like 'The One' for Brock in this series. This'll probably turn out to be 'Brock won't get a girl until the series ends' deal, but at least this time, Holly leaves of her own accord - thinking she's not worthy to stand by Brock and goes to do some training to one day really prove she belongs by his side. Alas, probably like Conway, we might never see her again.
The backstory and abuse of Chimchar - We learn why Paul pushes Chimchar so hard, and it draws back to their first meeting. He noticed how much stamina and power Chimchar had, yet for some reason has never been able to materialize such a level since. Kinda weird that we, for once, actually feel somewhat sorry for Paul. And then, at the end of the episode (end of Day 2), Paul goes and decides to kick Chimchar off the team! What a jerk! Ash is right... what about all the training? Could he really no longer see it as worth it? I'm not sure how Chimchar will fit in with Ash's team, other than getting better treatment. Let's see if Ash can bring out that potential, and if he does, will Paul, for once, come crawling back?
On Ash and Paul winning the Tag Battle competition - Meh. Guess I should've expected it in the end. Not downing Ash trying to prove to Paul that Chimchar is worth it. But... after coming off of Dawn not making it out of the Appeals Round of her latest contest, I'd hope Ash was due for a major letdown. Alas, this competition doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things in terms of getting to the Sinnoh League, so... I guess we'll have to wait for a gym battle upset.
"Tag! We're it...!": 4 out of 5
"Glory Blaze!": 3.5 out of 5
"Smells Like Team Spirit!": 3.5 out of 5

Wow... You practically wrote an entire essay. I put it into Microsoft Word just for the heck of it and it was over four pages long...
I had a feeling my post would be really long since this was an epic arc in D/P with a lot of intensity, but I wrote something that was four Microsoft Word pages long? Dang, no wonder it took me a couple of hours just to type it all down. I guess that's what happens when you have a lot of free time on your hands during an over a week break from school and you still love Pokemon.

Holy crap… six pages while I’m away?! It took me forever to get thought this. (I skiped Light Lucario’s post… only because it could count as a page in itself… don’t worry, I’ll read it sometime… when I have time.)
Wow... You practically wrote an entire essay. I put it into Microsoft Word just for the heck of it and it was over four pages long...
yeah…
My post is sort of long… but it’s only about 1.5 pages on Word.
Ugh...the dub music is horrible. I thought they were going to start using more original music now...
Yeah… that was probably the weakest point of this special.
“Tag! We’re It…”
Everyone got great partners. That Conway guy made me laugh. He kept adjusting his glasses… what a weirdo… but he was very strong. Dawn was lucky to get him as a partner.
Ash and Paul, how appropriate. Worst possible combination EVER. Well, the two of them are very strong, and Conway was right, they only won because of outstanding individual efforts.
5/5
Note: Rhydon using surf… I bet it was that guy in Pokemon Gold and Silver version that was trying to teach his Rhydon to surf. I guess he wasn’t as crazy as he looked.
“Glory Blaze”
A little history between Paul and Chimchar. I didn’t know Chimchar wanted that kind of training. And, yes, Paul is being very impatient.
I wonder what Conway meant when he said either way, Ash is the enemy? My best guess is he said that just because Ash was an opponent.
Paul just turns away during the battle… ?! What a jerk, he is obviously the best character to have ever been on the show.
If I was Ash, I would have had Turtwig use Synthesis to heal itself.
5/5
“Smells Like Team Spirit”
Chimchar is with Ash now. The moment would have been more spontaneous if some people haven’t been spoiling it for the last few months!
Paul was just a force during the semi-final match against Brock and his partner. I liked how Brock did mention that he was a former gym leader. I almost forgot about that. Plus, Brock might actually have a girlfriend… *wink*
Elekid evolved into Electabuzz… well it’s about time.
Paul didn’t keep the sooth bell… oh well, I kind of figure that.
And so our heroes head toward Vilstone City, home of Paul. 10 to 1 says we see Paul VERY soon.
Yash pointed this out to me:
"Isn't Veilstone City where Paul is from?" That's a continuity error since the dub didn't mention Paul's hometown.
No it’s not, Paul said it himself when he fought Cynthia.
5/5
OK, it's official. We're going into reruns now.
On February 16th, they'll be starting at D&P 27 & 28.
*sigh* Well, I try to stay current on the status and see if the reruns turn into new episodes down the road.
I guess we are talking the break for Movie 10, I guess.
Here's hoping that Paul gets defeated by Team Galactic later in the show someday.
I think Paul’s only chance for a loss is against someone really storng, like Cynthia.
I think Paul's Torterra is the equal of Ash's Charizard.
I’ll concur with that. Everyone has got one Ace in the hole.
Last notes:
I didn’t hit any spoiler boxes… so… yeah… (I’m so proud of myself)
Hey, Blake or anyone else didn’t do a Brock impression. I was kinda surprised.

To me, I would like an English adaptation of the them song from the Diamond and Pearl theme that's still around in Japan. 2) PUSA needs to learn from One Piece, if the 4Kids way ddin't work for that show, what makes them think that even with the dumbest of dialogue for the characters and the recognizable American music will work for this show. That's why PUSA needs to do their darndest to get us the official and original opening intro and ending themes of Pocket Monsters: Diamonds and Pearl.
If not, they still have that song "Stay Together" from the 10th Anniverasary soundtrack that could work with images from both the intro and outro of the series. from the moment they, PUSA and the record company that made the CD, it just screamed "potential future Pokemon theme song".
PUSA's seasons don't make any sense. Season 9 was 47 episodes, and now Season 10 is 51 episodes?
Season 9 = rest of Battle Frontier.
Maybe they consider the clipshow an episode, in spite of the fact that it was skipped. pokemon.com's production numbers acknowledge the existence of those three skipped episodes in Kanto, at least.

Yup. DP 052 is being touted as the final episode of the season. Of those 52 episodes, 51 of them were actually dubbed.
I suppose PUSA just felt this was the best place to end the season.
The very next episode would have been a great place as well, and it would have brought the episode count up to 52.
To me, I would like an English adaptation of the them song from the Diamond and Pearl theme that's still around in Japan.
Even if they had a full English version of the song, CN probably wouldn't air it because it'd be too long.
And yes, I know that they air both the opening and the ending themes to One Piece. But this is Cartoon Network we're talking about. They stopped making sense years ago.
2) PUSA needs to learn from One Piece, if the 4Kids way ddin't work for that show, what makes them think that even with the dumbest of dialogue for the characters and the recognizable American music will work for this show.
It worked for 4Kids for eight years, and it's been working for PUSA for two. In their eyes, it ain't broke, so there's no need to fix it.
Season 9 = rest of Battle Frontier.
And? The "sagas" have never, ever lined up before now, and it's very odd that they'd start now. The Orange Islands started in the middle of Season 2, the Johto region started in the middle of Season 3, the Hoenn region started in the middle of Season 6, and the Battle Frontier region started in the middle of Season 8.
Maybe they consider the clipshow an episode, in spite of the fact that it was skipped. pokemon.com's production numbers acknowledge the existence of those three skipped episodes in Kanto, at least.
But they don't count the skipped "The Ice Cave" (late Johto filler that wasn't dubbed because of Rougela/Jynx) or the Houen clip show on their site.

Maybe they will premiere it in the Summer.
The very next episode would have been a great place as well, and it would have brought the episode count up to 52.
052 works as season opener because it picks up a few hours after the last season ended, so it kind of bridges them together. PUSA seems to be more worried about putting breaks in logical places (like the end of Battle Frontier) than making sure that each season has an even number of episodes.

But wouldn't CN be the ones who decides the seasons anyway? Since they're the ones who order the shows and all.
I just can't see CN ordering a 47-episode season and then a 51-episode season. I think the more likely scenario is that CN actually did order 52 episodes per season and that PUSA is just ignoring that so they can divide the series however they want on their website.
Which would mean that PUSA's "Season 10" actually contains five holdovers from Season 9 and that "Season 11" will contain six holdovers from Season 10.

The official website isn't infallible, either.

Pokemon is a big enough property that PUSA is probably the one offering up a certain number of episodes for CN to order.

I recall CN once ordering an unconventional number of Dragonball Z episodes. I'm not sure the exact number, but it wasn't any multiple of 13. It seems likely that CN would only order however many episode PUSA actually had.

I'm thinking that the new season will probably start closer to June or sometime in the summer. We'll probably have another long break of new episodes like we did during last summer because of the dub episodes being close to the Japanese version. My guess is that PUSA will want to wait for Japan to air more episodes so that they have more episodes to dub into English. That's what I'm thinking anyway.

They do tend to recycle the background characters a lot, but given how many character designs there are (every ep practically introduces a new filler character), the writers have to reuse designs here and there, especially after 500+ episodes.
I do like it that PUSA translated Dawn's speech quirk. May had something like that in Japanese too, but 4kids totally ignored it for whatever reason. She said something like "kamo" at the end of most of her sentences, which I assume 4kids didn't care enough to bring into the dub.

It's weird because 4Kids would sometimes translate mannerisms (like Meowth saying "Meowth~!" like "Nya~!") or even add them (Luffy would add "y'know" to the end of sentences in the first episode of One Piece) in their dubs, but then forget about them immediately after. I think they have different writing staffs working on the same show, so they figure it's more convenient to not have traits like that.
CyberCubed

True, but PUSA didn't keep her speech quirk either. Granted they probably figured if she didn't use it during Hoenn it would be weird to see her start using it in Battle Frontier out of nowhere, so they ignored it too I guess for continuity's sake.
I do find it interesting when they do translate this stuff though. Even the trainer's commands now when they throw their Pokeballs:
Paul's, "Standby for battle!"
Dawn's, "Spotlight!"
May's, "Take the stage!"
Zoey's, "Curtain!" (I think she says that)
Did the characters used to say things like this in the old seasons? It seems to be something new added to the show, maybe so each character can have their own unique flavor with their Pokemon.

I do remember May calling out her Pokemon's name and then saying "Take the stage!" during the older seasons of Advance. I'm not sure if she started to say that in Advance, but I know that she said that in Advance Challenge and Advance Battle. I'm not sure if Ash still tells Pikachu to Thunderbolt 'em just before Pikachu blasts them off again. Ash always kind of changed what he was calling out before he released his Pokemon. I remember that he often told his Pokemon to come on out and the ever famous "I choose you!" cry. I'm not sure if any of the other main characters had a special call out before their Pokemon came out.

Yeah, I actually miss that little trait of his (pulling his hat back). I wouldn't mind if they brought that back some how. It kinda gave of that he was ready for battle.
Anyways, "Daijoubu" usually translates to "It's ok" or "It's all right". So, yeah, "No need to worry" works just fine in the context that Dawn says it.

There was a Pokemon reference in today's New York Daily News. In reguardless to the situation with Roger Clemens. An article headline states "Team Rocket Blasts Off".

I don’t mind that they recycle background characters. It’s not that important, so I’m not going to sweat the little things.
As for the trainer commands, I don’t mind that some people have there own saying. I guess it adds uniqueness to the characters. In the older seasons, I think the only thing trainers would say was “GO!” or “Let’s Go!” or something generic.
And the one episode I’ve missed so far is on tomorrow morning, so I won’t miss it a second time.

Do you guys think that the next season of DP will have all of the original BGM in it? (excluding vocal songs maybe)?
I just don't understand how 1 episode PUSA keeps all of the japanese BGM (Dawn's Early Night) and then goes back to using dub music for the next 3 episodes....

I really don't see that happening. PUSA has been far too erratic with the way they handle the background music to make any sort of trustworthy prediction about the way they'll handle Season 11.

I watched Sandshrew’s Locker yesterday morning.
What a dumb idea, create a dam that would flood and entire town, that honestly had to be the stupidest idea I have ever heard.
But otherwise, just more filler madness. But at least it did work out in the end. Ash and Dawn got the Hearthome city sooner than expected, even though they spent some time on helping Mira.
I thought that after the first teleportation, Team Rocket wouldn’t be able to find them. I thought wrong, they ended up attacking twice. But the way Mira said she wanted to be a part of Team Rocket… she didn’t really need to say that, she could have just poofed out of there without having to piss Team Rocket off.

Makes sense. I'm sure they'll want to hype up the movie as much as possible.
You know, I pray to God that PUSA doesn't use the D&P rap for the movie's opening.

What did they use for the Manaphy op?

Well, I believe that CN did a recap marathon for the first half of the season, so it's only approate that they should do the same for the 2nd half.
As for the Movie opening, they usually have an extended version of the theme song and the opening for the movies, BUT for Movie 9 they did not follow this patteren. Maybe PUSA got away from that, so it is a possibality that the Movie will not have the Rap opening after all.
Edit:

You beat my post by a few seconds. As I stated above, they didn't use the Battle Frontier opening for the movie, they just had some random song/background music inserted during the water carnival scene.

Movie 9 didn't have an opening in Japanese (neither did Movie 6 or 7). But Movie 10 does have an opening (it's a remix of "Together"), so this will be the first time PUSA has to create a new opening for a movie, unless they keep the originial, which is fairly doubtful.

Well Movie 9 made sense not to use the opening theme. I mean, the whole song is singing about challenging the Battle Frontier, what the heck does that have to do with a movie set in the ocean away from any kind of competitions?
Movie 10 is a D/P movie, so singing about "Diamonds and Pearls" (lol) at least makes sense.
On second thought, yeah, I really hope PUSA doesn't use that opening. And if Season 11 doesn't have a better theme song, may god help us.
Hoo boy, that's just what we need, a 2-3 minute version of the D/P theme...
I just hope they put some effort into adding more to it instead of the horribly lazy attempts 4Kids did extending the Master Quest and Advanced Battle themes for movies 5 and 8, respectively.

I bet they'll just repeat the song three times again.

It would be really awesome if PUSA dubbed the new opening for season 11 and used that.

That would probably be done for Movie 11.
Movie 10 needs to correspond with the 10th season, just like all the other movies did.

I hope that they don't use the D/P theme either. It really is a pretty weak song and it just lacks the energy and effort that the other themes, or at least most of them, had in the past.
I do agree that extending the Master Quest theme for movie five was kind of weak, but I think that the extension for the Advanced Battle themed worked really well with the Lucario movie. I think that the beat and the new lyrics that they added on combined quite nicely with the images of all of the battles going on during the opening credits.

Just a note, It seems Pokemon has been bumped to the first set of shows on Cartoon netowrk's website! Maybe they might actually start advertising new episodes in the future?
Well didn't really watch the Marathon since I had seen most of the episodes but I had it in the background mute and I enjoyed it a lot that way. By doing this I noticed a lot of things I probably wouldn't if I had actually been watching and saw parts of episodes I hadn't seen like that Marina cameo.
