Hey folks,
Well, it seems this board has gotten too big for it's britches so we're going to be doing some remodeling very soonm at this board. How big will the change be? Well...we're splitting the Ani and the Gen. I know alot of people will be upset by this, but at the rate this board is growing, it's the best option. Now what are these boards going to be divided into to?
The Anitainment Board
This board will deal strictly with music, movies, animation, and television.
The Community Board
This board will house the general topics as well. The general topics seem to be quickly overtaking the board, so we thought a board where the commuinity can comment on the latest issues, and post ideas, thoughts, and suggestions would be the best alternative. The Community Board is a tentaive name as we'll be looking for a better name, preferably with "Gen" in the title. We will lilely do a vote on that. Also, makign this board will allow us to keep the community feel that makes this board great.
The Anitainment Board will be a World's Finest Board, and The Community Board will either be a World's Finest Board or a WF/Toon Zone Board.
We will definatly keep you updated on this, as we plan to implment the split very, very soon. So comments, thoughts, and ideas are very much welcome so please - share! This is a big step for the board and we hope to have all your support on the way.

On a smaller board I'd be a little concerned about seperating a general topics board into 2 seperate 'general topics' board (which IMO the antitainment board essentially is) but with an expanding user group as this board has, it maybe a good idea...

I'll admit, we are taking a bit of a risk here with a "General Topics" Board, but we thing it'll work out. That board will be the new home for the 'Avatar' discussions, the vide game stuff, just all the stuff that doesn't fit into the Anitainment Board. I think this could work out, but if things get out of hand, then we will take action.

I think an open mind is certainly the best approach, if it doesn't work, nothing stopping anyone changing it back..
Hope the change pays off!
- fingers crossed, eh?

I don't think there'll be a problem with low traffic on either of the split boards. If you look at it now, the AniGen board is whompingly in the lead in total posts and probably grows quicker than the other boards each day.
Something tells me that the post numbers on the "Community" board is gonna explode once it gets its own board, but hopefully it'll stay manageable and won't get too random.
Good idea though. Hope it all works out well.

I think its a great idea since this board has the most diverese topics.

I guess it could be a good idea.

So are the active threads up now going to be moved? Where is the WWF Trivia Thread come in here?

That's another thing behind this split. We don't want to eliminate the freedom AniGen has enjoyed, but there is no way we're going to let the Community board go wild.
AniTainment's official topics will be: animation, film, television and music. Sports and games I think we'll keep on the Community board, to give it some structure so it won't degenerate into the "It's midnight and I'm bored so I guess I'll post a new thread" kind of thing that we've had crop up recently.
Hmm. Maybe there's a title: "The Funtastic Good-Time Extravaganza Board." Well, maybe not. :p

Yup. The new Community board will not be a giant "Never-Ending Post" thread. The same rules apply: there must be a topic. Threads that become too off-topic will be closed. No threads about illegal program downloading and such.

gee, and here I thought the Community board owuld be more like :
SWM seeks Toon loving SWF for fun & freakazoid
23yo, Jewish Toonlover looking for love in all the wrong places..seeks similer minded female who loves Toons, and cooks...
=\ No?

Just remember this won't be happening immediatly. It's going to take us a little while to get everything ironed out. I'm hoping to have the name of the General board fan picked (which - if done how I hope it is - would take two polls and a few days) and have it al llook spiffy. I have a fair idea what's gonna happen and I can't wait for this too happen. Maxie Zeus (who has been a huge part of this) has been working his butt off to get everything togethor. I think everyone will be pleasently surprised. Once the final product comes about...I think it'll work out great.

I think this sounds like a good idea and should work well. It should give a little more structure to all the AniGen topics. It'll just take a little getting used to...
Anyway, I'm behind you guys all the way! Hope it all works out okay. :D

Understood. But without at least a loose structure on what is "allowable" on a specific board, it seems like there's a good chance of conversations veering off on a tangent. And a lot of it might happen unintentionally. Shoot, it happens a lot on the Anigen board right now, with posts turning into cross-conversations which would probably be better elft for PM's or IM's.
That said, I'm optimistic that you all will be able to pull it together successfully. Hey, no failures yet right? :) (No, not including me. And NO that was not a pun. I repeat - Not a Pun! :p )

We're gonna have a loose structure for the Gen topic board as well. We're still ironing things out. Also, the Mod Team on th eboard may be a bit bigger than the usual team, as it'll need constant supervision. We're still ironing out the final plans, but I think the vast majority of people here can handle themselves in a dignified manner so there may not be that many problems.

ok...don't hurt me..but...
How does the whole Mod thing work, anyway? I know you/they can edit posts, delete threads etc...but is it board based, thread based, or courtacy based (ie you only mess with the boards you're assigned to, but technically could mess with any board)
Just wondering...feel free to delete/edit/kill me...
ok, maybe not the last one...

Just thought I'd send a quick update in.

I have no doubts about the responsibility of the people who post here. I'd say that the civility on the WF/TZ boards are 2nd to none across the net. But when you keep on growing, you never know what could be waiting for you! :) But all in all, it sounds good, I'm looking forward to the split.

1. The Community Board will be located here, where AniGen currently is. In fact, we will be simply moving certain current topics off of AniGen and onto the new AniTainment Board. The change will be a lot less radical than it sounds. In fact, given the way people ignore announcements, I'm betting a lot of people won't even notice until we start moving their threads onto the new board. So disruption will be pretty minimal.
2. The Community Board should feel a lot like AniGen, except that it will be missing the animation, film, television, and music discussions. If AniGen was the "Animation and Off-Topics" board, the Community board will probably be the "Sports, Games, Current Events and Off-Topics" board. We don't want to discourage the free flow of discussion.
3. Still, we don't want things to degenerate into a free-for-all. We want to throttle back a bit, but will do so as softly and invisibly as we can. All topics will be welcome (so long as they are PG- or less, and avoid the egregiously controversial, but you already know that drill). It's just that we ask that they have an actual topic. Recently, it's been like a chat-room in here ("Hey! It's midnight! Anyone else on?"), and that's too random.

Yeah, that sounds great! I have noticed a rather large boom in threads here and a split just seems right. I will admit, however, that i too am a little concerned w/ the General Board becoming a big TNP, but i have faith in you guys :) .

Heh. That's one of the reasons we're splitting it. This place already has turned into a board-sized TNP, and we're going to try to get it back under control.

...and while Toon Zone thrives on wacky randomness, trying to keep up with every single "9:47! My favorite time of the night!" and "I just ate an entire bag of Doritoes!" post really taxes we mods. We've got a life too, y'know!
(pause)
Okay, no we don't. But we've got cartoons to watch, darnit!

Nice idea, although it was suprising when I saw all those moved threads... Of course that could've been me seeing it when I needed lotso sleep. :D
Btw, the board is labeled "AnyGen" while the main banner is "AniGen", just in case you missed that.

It's on purpose: The name is going to be changed shortly anyway, which means we'll be getting a new background, new banner, etc.
We just wanted to get this split into effect ASAP. AniGen was getting unmanageable.

Firstly: Congrats on the split. Obviously this place has grown well. ^_^
But, when you post on the wrong board and not know about the split in your rush to get back to old topics... :o
