Wow. I'm shocked that they're keeping it as an hour show, instead of what they did to the Scooby Doo/Dynomutt release. Volume 2 will probably be the remaining six episodes, then we'll get the invidual Richie Rich/Scooby & Scrappy Doo releases.

Thinking about it...didn't they just skip the reamining Scooby-Doo Show episodes that where with Scooby's All Stars/Laff-a-Lympics?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute!
They never said anything of the sort. They just said it was coming. That's all.
(sigh) I guess nobody ever taught you to not count your DVDs before they're pressed. Seriously though, given past H-B releases, there is a 96% chance that although it will be marketed as such, it will very likely just be the separate syndicated versions (as with the aforementioned Scobby/Dynomutt release).
Besides, wouldn't this be giving us the second season of Scooby and Scrappy (where it's just Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy) ahead of the first season (where it's Scrappy and the whole "Mystery Inc." gang)? You see, both Richie Rich, and the 2nd season of Scooby and Scrappy came in 1980.

Did you even click the link? 7 episodes on 2 discs. That would be 7 one HOUR episodes combined (287 minutes) on May 20th, otherwise they'd have counted the invidual shows like they do for the Superfriends releases, or just made them seperate releases.
Boomerang's airings of Richie Rich, on certain episodes, have the cold opens and end credits referencing the Scooby Doo half of the show, so those complete episodes might exist somewhere in WB's vaults, and we're most likely getting.

Believe it or not, Hanna-Barbera's Richie Rich featured the first cartoon voice work by Nancy Cartwright, who would later voice Bart Simpson.

Odd releasing---this sounds like it's the second season of the anthology Richie Rich/Scooby Doo---the one with only 7 hour-long episodes (per Wikipedia's page), instead of the longer first season of 13 hour-long episodes (Richie plus the first batch of Shag, Scoob-and-Scrappy-only "Scooby and Scrappy Doo" episodes). Maybe getting the rights for Richie's episodes made them a bit cautious on releasing the first season of Richie/Scooby hour episodes? Or they just plan on releasing the first 13 Shag-Scoob-and-Scrappy-only episodes as "volume 2" of some "Scooby and Scrappy Doo" release?

It says the Complete Series - Volume 1, so I'm assuming Volume 2 will have the next six episodes, and volume 3 will have the last 7.
WB must have realized that releasing 2 disc sets sell a lot better than 4 disc sets.

You know who also worked on Richie Rich, Paul Haggis the Oscar winning writer of Crash. He was a writer on the show.

Hmm, Wikipedia lists the Richie Rich/Scooby Doo Show as lasting two seasons---the first one 13 one-hour episodes, the second one 7 one-hour episodes. I assume the upcoming volume 1 consists of the second season's 7 episode run, while volume 2 of Richie/Scooby will have the first season's 13 episodes. Presumably at some point afterwards there'll be one set for "The Scooby and Scrappy Doo/Puppy Hour"'s one season of 13 episodes; I assume the Puppy segments will be included (a la the inclusion of Richie and Dynomutt in their respective Scooby box sets).
I assume they'll also (eventually) release on its own set the 16 episodes of 1979-80's "Scooby and Scrappy", but probably not until all of the above shows (and maybe even until all of "Pup" and "What's New?") are released---probably since there's no way to obscure (via use of Richie/Puppy on the box or whatever) the fact that Scrappy's the co-star (given Scrappy's lack of popularity lately).
Why they don't just release the whole show's run in chronological order, I have no idea... well, aside from marketing concerns such as with Scrappy above... (shrug)

Glad to see they're not going to ignore the Scrappy episodes, although how long can they prevent from acknowledging his presence? When they go to release "The Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show" they will have to have Scrappy on the DVD cover.
Keep these Hanna-Barbera sets coming, Warner Bros.

WOW! I thought this would be the LAST Scooby series they would ever release! And this first news goes back to October! It seems we slept on that one!
But actually, that second season of the shorts were actually the better ones. The new "slapstick comedy" format which still appeared experimental in the ealy part of the first season was improved, as were the personality and new voice of Scrappy. Although the last half or so of the first season were just as good as well.
I really wish they would keep the Richie Rich and Scooby Doo separate, and release all 60 Scooby shorts on one disc. But as they have been in the trend of hiding Scrappy, it seems the best way to slip the first Scrappy releases on everyone is buried in the Richie Rich/Scooby format (infamous for Scooby having second billing, yet!)
Also, following the links, John Latchem's article confirms what I had speculated that Scrappy did in fact "...bore a resemblance to Spears’ and Ruby’s initial idea for a feisty little dog".

I would assume that this release would contain the first seven episodes of season one. I do hope that it is the actual hour as it originally aired on Saturday Mornings not the separated syndicated versions.
I am disappointed with the announced extra. I was hoping for an explanation for the paring down the cast of Scooby-Doo. I also wonder if the 1979 Scooby and Scrappy episode, "The Ransom of Scooby-Chief" was a pilot for a revamped Scooby and Scrappy because that episode was certainly different from the rest of the mystery-solving season.

The first season of Scooby and Scrappy will be rough, since he'll obviously have to be on the cover, but if they hide the rest of the shorts with the Richie Rich releases, that'll cover those episodes after the initial first Scrappy season.
The New Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo might be difficult as well, but at least when they get to "The Scooby Doo Mysteries" and "13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo", they'll most likely go with just Scooby, Shaggy, and Daphne on the covers, and possibly adding in Vincent Van Ghoul for "13's" release.

Seems more likely to add Flim-Flam... or even more likely, the cover will just only Scoob and Shag with the Chest of Demons on "13"'s box (guessing to avoid potentially paying anything extra to Vincent Price's estate).

Hmm... possible point (the first 7 episodes of the first season)...
As for the extra, guessing they'll get Paul Dini or someone else familiar with comics to go into Richie's comic history, along with the Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

I didn't know they had a show together, I'm going to NetFlix it now.

Perhaps when they release the first season, or the oroginal Scooby & Scrappy show (with the Ransom of Scooby Chief) episode itself.
It's like they have to "test the waters" now.
Trying to hide him, and the Birdman show adding insult to injury by making the Avenger thing a running gag on several more episodes, and then other shows continuing to get into it (Drawn Together, Robot Chicken), it's more than enough already! A bunch of neurotic webgeeks shouting about how he ruined their childhood (Look at old jumptheshark posts. They actually say this!) having such an influence over the industry!

Fascinating...and confusing.
Whatever happens, it looks like fans of the eight 1977 episodes of Scooby Doo are screwed, as well as Laff-a-lympics lovers. They seem to have skipped over this season for no logical reason.

I'm hoping they skipped over that season to get it right if they do release it.

Or maybe they're waiting to release it to coincide with the next big Olympic games.

The Scooby Doo/Dynomutt Hour DVD set also lists the shows as one-hour shows, and the DVDs are authored as if each is a one-hour show, but in two "chapters" (first Scooby and then Dynomutt). But the actual content (which is what really matters) is just the individual half-hours with their own openings and closings (not original). The Dynomutt shows are a couple minutes shorter than the Scoobys.
And with Earl Kress out of favor, I wouldn't hold my breath for them to get this right...but it's good to see it coming out, anyway.
As for the "skipped" Scoobys, I have to guess they likely have some kind of (non-immediate) plans for Laff-A-Lympics. Maybe the other Scooby episodes will be the selling point for that set...I'm thinking that may be the main reason they marketed The Scooby Doo/Dynomutt Hour as such. Dynomutt was a popular character when he was first introduced (Dynomutt was one of four H-B shows to be featured when Marvel Comics first introduced their line of Hanna-Barbera comic books in 1977) but has fallen off the radar since then. Dynomutt probably would not have sold as well on its own.
Regarding how the episodes are broken down, which ones go with which seasons, etc., I don't think the people who put these sets together necessarily even know what goes where (they may not have even been born when these shows originally aired)...by all accounts, the H-B archives and records are a mess. I wouldn't necessarily trust info on Wikipedia, either, given that anyone can edit it or change it at any time. (Even IMDB cannot be taken as gospel.) Sometimes, you get lucky, and someone who knows their stuff researches this info as pretty much a labor of love. I love it when that happens. (I know online fan/historian/collector help was solicited when they were trying to sequence the cartoons for the Magilla Gorilla DVD set, for instance.)
Moral of the story is...if you know your stuff and have good, reliable information, by all means, please get it out there and share it. It may be all the "powers that be" have to go on.

Sometimes the available segments of the episodes themselves tell you what order to put them in and they can't even get that right (see The All-New Super Friends Hour Volume One set which contains the "Next Week on..." on segments yet the episodes aren't in order on the DVD).

Im glad Scooby Doo Show is getting a full DVD release, I personally thought of it as my favorite of all the scoobys.
