View Full Version : Bumping threads...

Why do people insist on bumping threads for new episodes when they are only on the second page? This usually takes place in the Anime Board, personally, I feel as if that is just major spam and completely uneccessary. And no, I won't point fingers, but it seems to be the same group that do it, so why exactly is this allowed? And yes, i do report it for the Mod whom will ask me that.

Wait...could you clarify? Do you mean second page of the forum, or the second page of the thread?

He means 2nd page of the forum.
....
Really makes no sense, since a thread (unless it's stickied) can't stay on the first page if it's inactive. And, if a thread is labelled as a series talkback, then how can you hold discussion without bumping it when the new episode is out?

Well, if that's what Zechs mean, yeah, I don't really see the problem with it either. It also lets people know when a new episode has been released.

I think he's referring to stuff like SpaceCowboy's infamous "I am bumping this thread." post, where they bump up a thread just so it can be on page one, so they won't have to search to find it next time they have something to say.

Surely that's why you'd subscribe to a thread, no?

Jonny is correct. I just think it is dumb when people make their whole post for the purpose of bumping a thread, essentially adding nothing to the discussion, and just spamming. Ill go into it more later...Wii's get annoying to post with.

Usually on the Entertainment board, I notice that some threads get pushed back a page or 2, like the NFL Prediction Thread. Something comes up about once a week, a few people post, then it will fall back quickly.
I have no problem with the bumping of threads to the next page. If I got something to say, then I'll just go look for it.

Evidently not, because it keeps happening. They could at least PM me and tell me why that post is okay, or something like that.
Edit: And I'd prefer if people let me answer questions directed towards me, not put words in my mouth, thanks.

Like...when someone goes, "I'm just bumping this thread for the new episode," and such. Is it honestly that hard to go back a page, find the topic, and then post your thoughts on the episode?

Yes, it is hard! When you post in a thread, it automatically goes back to page one. The poster can't control that. You can't post in the thread and keep it on page 2, it's impossible with this board. The thread will go back a page when inactive and bump up when active.

You clearly have no idea what I am talking about. You are missing the point completely, I don't mind it when someone posts constructively, and contributes to the conversation, and it is on page 1, that is perfectly fine, I don't like it when someone feels the need to bump a thread JUST for a new episode, and doesn't contribute much of anything, it ISN'T hard for someone to go to the 2nd page, find the thread and then post something constructive, they DON'T need someone to bump it up. That's basically post-count padding.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious, Zechs. Bumping threads with no purpose is almost as irritating as creating threads with no purpose.
Kinda like this one, here.
If someone is post-cound padding, report the post or PM a mod. Publically going, "Certain anonymous posters (which we all know who they are, but I'm not going to name names wink wink nudge nudge) are post-count padding and it sucks, GRRR!" is about as redundant as replying to a thread going, "I'm bumping this thread."
And incidentally, you might want to respect your fellow posters. Regardless of whether or not they're somewhat computer challenged, calling someone an idiot is all kinds of against the rules. It's also extremely not-cool. Especially when you're doing pretty much the same thing you're ranting about in the first place.
Irony sucks. Sorry.
