With Batman: Gotham Knight and Wonder Woman coming up, I thought of another DC Universe DTV Poll with these choices:
Kingdom Come
Crisis of Inifinite Earths
Flash of Two Worlds
Green Lantern/Green Arrow: Snowbirds Don't Fly
Power of Shazam!
Justice League: Tower of Babel
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
Infinite Crisis
52
Identity Crisis
Jonah Hex
War of the Gods
Cosmic Odyssey
Teen Titans: Who is Donna Troy?
Green Lantern: Rebirth
ROBOTRON

Superman/Batman:Public Enemies
Everything else is number 2 or lower.:D

I gotta agree...While 'Superman/Batman' isn't all that great at the moment, it's opening storyline, Public Enemies, was great. I think it really deserves DTV treatment.

The Atom, I never thought of that one. Good call.
Maybe they should be DC Universe DTVs of Sgt. Rock, House of Mystery, or House of Secrets.

My whole vote went to 'Kingdom Come', which would be the awesomest thing ever.
I voted for Kingdom Come, but how about Silver Age?

For those who don't know what Snowbirds Don't Fly was, it was a story by Denny O'Neil & Neal Adams and it deals with Green Lantern & Green Arrow dealing with drug abuse. Namely when they found out that Speedy was a junkie.

I'd love to see that 1988, 3 part series called "Invasion' done as a DTV movie. It featured just about all of Earth's heroes fighting an allied alien armada that consisted of the Khunds, Thanagarians, and around 6 other alien races all determined to snuff out Earth's metahuman race. Adam Strange & the Omega men were in it also.

Over at the DC boards, many of our are in agreement that if another Superman DTV were made, it should be Red Sun. Of course, there's good reason to be skeptical that a story of a communist Superman might not work so well. I think a lot of good Elseworlds also would fail in this regard, even though they're good stories.
Crisis of Infinite Earths and Kingdom Come are also popular ideas. Crisis would be the harder story to condense, and Kingdom reads better, so I'm far in favor of Kingdom first. The problem with Kingdom Come? To many fans, Kingdom Come is defined by Alex Ross' art. I like the art, throughout the most part (though Wondy and Supes look too old, IMO, and have too many hard lines on their faces), so something drawn in the economical and efficient style WB and DC stick to these days might be a let down for many.
I'd definitely go for any good Captain Marvel story, especially since we've not had many in a long period of time. He's got Superman like appeal without having to go back to that franchise.
I closely followed Public Enemies; it was the book, along with JLA/Avengers, that got me back into comics in the early part of this decade, but I would rate it low among stories that I'd want to see translated to DTV. Same goes for Babel.
For any story that's not Superman or Batman, I think Warner and DC will stick to introductory stories. They might have a hard time selling a story in which the casual viewer will have to pretend he or she is already familiar with the character. Sure, they've heard of Green Lantern and Flash, but they could probably use a bit more exposure. So, I'd be wary of doing a story that specifically focuses on a character (not Superman or Batman) without giving him proper introduction. For those who haven't read Trinity, it's a story about Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, but it centers on how Wonder Woman meets Supes and Bats, and then the three take down villains from each character's rogue gallery. Trinity would also be a good, easy book to adapt to DTV.

I hope we see an all new Flash story, personally. I want it to be about Barry Allen, his origin, etc. I want Neil Patrick Harris to voice him again too. That's something that hasn't been done yet, Barry would be the best Flash for this sort of thing, IMO. It'd be great to see him in animation, I think they could do a great Flash DTV.
Wally never really intrigued me. I grew up with him, yeah, being born post crisis and all, but it wasn't till I was introduced to Barry that I became a Flash fan. He was the most self contained/original, I liked his personality, very easy going/wisecracking and I loved the fact that he was a "slowpoke", kinda like Bruce Wayne being a lush, spoiled playboy and Clark Kent being somewhat nerdy, it's just so great, you'd never suspect their aliases. Also his origin I always thought was cool, I like that he's a police scientist and is actually a really smart guy underneath the mask (scientist) intead of being kinda dumb/childish like Wally, plus he doesn't have all the Kid Flash sidekick baggage/angst that Wally has and he isn't a "ripoff" in terms of origin/powers. He's also got a great supporting cast, Iris, the Rogues, etc. I Also like that he's best friends/the same age as Hal Jordan, my favorite Green Lantern.
I'd love to see them animate Mark Waid's Brave and Bold miniseries. Some great stories there too.
The Atom/Ray Palmer would be cool too.
I'd say a solo GL/Hal Jordan origin film, but they kinda covered that in NF. So I say they do Hal bein' trained by Sinestro and stuff. Then they could do Sinestro as the villain/delve into why he hates Hal.

I think there are some other good ideas I'd love to see that aren't mentioned, that specifically would make for good DTV's. Such as:
- A Tim Sale styled: "Batman: Long Halloween"
- Justice League: The Nail
- Wonder Woman/Justice League: A league of One
- Flash: Rogue War
- Young Justice (anything!)
- JLA/JSA: Virtue and Vice
Just to name a few.

Batman: The Long Halloween is in my Batman Poll.

On the poll I picked Kingdom Come and The Power of Shazam.
Others I'd like to see:
The Dark Knight Returns
The Flash: Terminal Velocity
Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn (loose adaptation)
Legion of Super-Heroes: The Great Darkness Saga
Starman: Sins of the Father
Superman for All Seasons
I voted on the Crisis of Infinite Earths but thinking it better I don't want them to run into that multiverse or possible/alternative future stuff like the Crisis of Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis or Kingdom Come. Besides, each one of those series are too big to be put into a single movie.
I prefer a Jonah Hex animated movie, that would be cool and different from the usual superhero stuff. And the only reason why I don't choose the Power of Shazam! it's because I think that the Shazam! franchise deserves an entire animated series of his own.

well, I haven't had the pleasure of reading most of the arcs however I'd have to caution which of these tales can best be adapted to a 70+ minuted animated feature w/o sacrificing plotpoints.

Woah - seven other voted for War of the Gods.
I don't think it would work as a standalone DTV, as much as it would be a good eventual sequel to the existing Wonder Woman franchise, provided they make that sequel with the Cheetah.
Actually...nah. I can't see that franchise going in that direction.
But War of the Gods just sounds cool, and the story premise was neat, so yeah...that would be neat.

Strangely enough, I did made that poll two years ago, and with Public Enemies already out, the others need to be made. I wouldn't mind seeing all of them made. The one I would definitely get when it's made would have to be The Power of Shazam! I've been a fan of Captain Marvel since I was 3, and with a movie coming out, they should make this film around the time of the film.
I also like seeing Flash of Two Worlds as well as Green Lantern/Green Arrow.

Oh man, I had to vote for Cosmic Odyssey!
How stylish would that look animated, especially if they really utilized the early Mignola style... or better yet, bring Mignola on board to design the characters. He did design the B:TAS Mr. Freeze after all!
Anyway, that story was cool, and featured tons of DC characters and locations. A great choice for a DTV.
In a similar vein, I wouldn't mind seeing a 'HISTORY of the DC UNIVERSE' animated feature, done with very 'documentary' feel. Sweet.

I'm afraid to say I'm not a comics reader so haven't read any of those. Having said that I've voted for Shazam, mainly because I'd like to see a Captain Marvel DTV.
My dream DTV would be The Dark Knight Returns, released as 4 volumes, 1 or 2 a year so that it could be given the full attention it deserves. Maybe even 2 volumes, with 2 parts on each disc done at 50-60 minutes each.

Totally agree! As much as I'd like to see Kingdom Come, I think Cosmic Odyssey would translate a lot better to animation. I'm going to surmise that not many people here have actually read Cosmic Odyssey, and that's the only reason it's rated so low on this poll. And that's such a shame.
I know I'm a bit bias because I'm a big fan of Mike Mignola's art, but I actually think Cosmic Odyssey is the perfect for candidate for animation because of Mignola's character designs and Jim Starlin's epic story. It could easily be adapted into a great Justice League DTV.
If anyone here hasn't read it, I highly recommend getting the tradepaperback.

Hmmm, you make a good point about Cosmic Odyssey being a bit obscure among fans on this board... I'm an 'old guy' [34]; heck, I wasn't even aware there WAS a trade paperback! I still have the series in its original 3-issue 'prestige format' run. Anyway, I highly recommend a read of this one if you've never heard of it before. Be aware that it is EARLY Mignola, so the art isn't quite as stylish as Hellboy; that said, it's still totally awesome. Plus, DCAU Fans will appreciate seeing John Stewart in action as GL. Great stuff!
Also, Bat-Fan... I LOVE All-Star Superman, but do you really think Quitely's art would translate well to animation? Don't get me wrong, if they did it right I'd buy two copies, but sometimes when animation designs get too ambitious / detailed, the animation suffers for it. I AM dying to see an adaptation of a Grant Morrison story [although it was a bit of a tease, Crisis on Two Earths doesn't count as an adaptation of JLA Earth 2 since it only borrows some concepts from it].
I can only imagine that Long Halloween will be made eventually [they do seem to use Batman at least every 3rd DTV after all... ;)], and it would be great, especially with the Tim Sale style. Good choice!

Actually, it was a 4-issue 'prestige format' series. But you're right, it is early Mignola -- Pre-Gotham By Gaslight -- but it's still very much his style; Not so heavy on shadows, like Hellboy, but more reminiscent of his Kirby-inspired look.
And yes, this story has a very pivotal scene for John Stewart in it. The New Genesis bug, Forager, also has a memorable moment worth mentioning.

I think Quitely, at his best, has an animated quality to his style. Sure it might be detailed a bit and need to be simplified when actually adapting it to animation, but I do think his design lends itself to the medium.

Dang, I guess it WAS a 4-issue series... it's been a while. I was only 13 when that series came out in 1988! Time to drag the ol' Mike Mignola Box down from the closet and re-read that thing, along with Gotham By Gaslight [which would also make a cool DTV... maybe as an Elseworlds Double Feature with Mark Millar's Red Son?] and Rocket Racoon. I won't say anything to spoil Cosmic Odyssey, but I do love the scene with GL and the yellow bomb. Plus, I have a soft spot for the story because it was one of my first experiences with Kirby's Fourth World characters. Anyone who enjoyed the Apokolips / New Genesis episodes in the DCAU owes it to themselves to check this book out.

Kingdom Come would be amazing I hope they figure out a way to do it. I'm sure they could do it and just not use certain characters afterall its pretty much Superman's story. The only problem I think they would have is Norman McKay and the Spectre unless they just were there mostly at the beginning or something.

They could do it, if they abandoned the art style and just adapted the story. It's 4 issues, so it could work as a 75 minute feature. And they shouldn't not do something, just because some people are going to complain. People are going to complain about everything so they might as well do whatever stories they want to the best of their abilities and hope the majority like it.

The style would have to be sacrificed for sure. I sometimes think the changes they make to their shows/films can be beneficial to an adaptation sometimes something that works in a comic doesnt work well in animation. I would love to see Kingdom Come even if they made several changes to it.

Here's the thing. If any bitterness between Timm and Ross still exists at all, Timm may be reluctant to attempt an adaptation of Kingdom Come simply because he may not want to, or because, whether it turns out good or bad, knowing how fans can be, if it's not 100% faithful or doesn't have Alex Ross' approval, Timm might be criticized and accused of intentionally sabotaging it -- Which of course makes absolutely no sense, because why would Timm want to adapt and have his name attached to any story just to sabotage it? -- But that's exactly how some dumb fans often see things.
But yeah, I'm figuring we may never see a Kingdom Come animated feature, so it's time to abandon hope on that and raise the vote for Cosmic Odyssey.
