Woah, Voltron actually airing on Boomerang. I always thought it should have been on there sooner. Makes you wonder if the 1963 Astro Boy series is coming next.

Voltron, eh? Swank! Now, maybe they'll get Robotech, Star Blazers, and the rest of the golden & silver ages of anime in America.

So, is anime a relatively new thing to Boomerang? How many anime series have aired before on the channel?

Only one series, Battle of the Planets(Gatchaman) aired before and it didn't even finish its run on Boomerang before it was taken off.

Ace Goodheart explains it better:

Boomerang has and is run on a tight, small budget, so outside acquisition up until now have been few and far inbetween. Their last big and most notable outside acquisition was Sandy Frank's "Battle of the Planets", which they promoted heavily (and was also advertised heavily amongst the Gatchaman community/fanbase, very likely reeling in more than a few viewers) in April 2004 with a 24-hour marathon of its first 20 (out of 85) episodes. The honeymoon was soon over though, as the show was yanked off of Boomerang late that same September, moving to ADV's "Anime Network" in October 2004. Boomerang only aired the first 20 episodes of BotP for some unknown reason, all of which were aired in the 24-hour marathon premiere that first day. The scheduling and airings were also spotty all the way up until the end.

Oh that's right, I forgot about that. Luckily, that didn't last long.

Hmm, Pokémon didn't last long? That's surprising. Seems like anime doesn't have a very strong following on Boomerang.

I guess I personally wouldn't mind if the older episodes of Pokémon aired on Boomerang. They're certainly more "classic" than shows like Krypto: The Superdog or The Batman, in any case.

Voltron eh?

Come on guys... stop teasing us. Play it with The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Thundercats and DBZ.

Yes, it's high time DBZ moved to Boomerang. I imagine they could slap it in a midnight slot at least.

Does Boomerang select its characters of the month out of a hat?

Huckleberry was already character of the month just a couple of months ago.

Nice, so after almost four years the people behind Boomerang have decided to pull their sleeves up once again and bring in a big acquisition. "Voltron" doesn't come as much of a surprise as "Battle of the Planets" though, seeing as "Voltron" had already returned to the airwaves in 2005 on Adult Swim's graveyard hour, and has been brought back on AS more than once since then. I assume that CN still has the broadcast rights, and with "Astro Boy" being AS's preferred old-school anime by far it was a wise choice to send "Voltron" down to Boomerang. "Boomeraction", which after Boomerang's massive shake-up in January 2005 was pretty much dissolved and/or all over the place, seems to steadily be making a comeback, only not as "Boomeraction" and more like Boomerang's watered-down version of "Adult Swim Action. The 11PM-3AM hour has almost been the exclusive home to action shows on Boomerang for awhile now. "Voltron" will probably head there or air on weekend afternoons in "Centurions" current slot, but it sure does suck that in both CN and Boomerang action programming has been largely restricted to night-time.

Hopefully "Voltron" will make much more of an impact than "Battle of the Planets" did and make a difference on Boomerang. Boom's long overdue for some action anime to liven up the channel. It only took CN a little over two years (1995) to exhaust their library of H-B action shorts and shows and bring in its first anime (oh you already know!).

I don't think it's time for DBZ to move to Boomerang yet. As evidence from the show being on Toonami right now, it still brings in a sizable audience for the block.

Personally, I wouldn't mind Dragonball coming to the network. It's old enough to air on the network and it would fit in on weekday nights.

I don't see anything about "Voltron" in any of the press schedules or highlights. What's your source on that? "Dink" is listed in the March highlights, but I can't find any trace about "Voltron."

Dink, the Little Dinosaur? No Thanks!

I don't know who's running Boomerang right now, but I'm really not digging some of their programming choices.

It's in their programming listings for the last week of the month in place of Cow & Chicken.

It's in their programming listings for the last week of the month in place of Cow & Chicken. That's a relief!   I'm very sorry but, IMO, Cow & Chicken was one of the worst CN originals ever! David Feiss could've used a few more art classes.

Oddly enough, I used to be a Voltron fan myself when I was a child in the '80's so I WILL check it out. I still have both Voltron robot sets BTW: I'm referring to the 5 lions and the Land, Space, & Air Team set.:D

I'd rather have older programming like Dink than newer shows like Gerald McBoingBoing or The Batman.

So what show is voltron replacing?

Mandouga
01-13-2008, 07:10 PM
Now, snowpeck, are ABSOLUTELY sure about this? I don't know if it was you, but somebody on these forums once said that "The Archies" was coming to Boomerang, but it turned out that it was a premature announcement.

So I ask again, are you absolutely sure about this?

In any case, if Voltron really was to come to Boomerang, I am probably going to wait until Media Blasters releases the original GoLion. This way I can make some comparisons between the two; after all, GoLion was the story of what "really" happened (i.e., in terms of story and universe) on the planet "Arus" (sp?) or whatever the planet is really called, but that's another story.

Furthermore, if Voltron really is coming to Boomerang, perhaps it will open the possibility of Gigantor and Astro Boy (which have also been shown on a certain late night block...which is not a separate network, but enough about that) being shown, in which case I would readily watch those shows; after all, Boomerang is a more appropriate place to show them, doncha think?....

Well, all programming decisions are subject to change... just about anything on the lineup could change between now and February, but that's what's scheduled as of now.

It'll be nice to have Voltron on Boomerang. My guess is they'll have it in the late night schedule, likely after midnight Eastern Time. That's where they usually put the action shows.

I'm surprised Huckleberry Hound is February's character of the month considering he already had that distinction this past October. They could have at least have had someone new.

As I said in an earlier post, it will be in Cow and Chicken's current 10:30pm eastern slot starting 2/18.

February:
Marathons: Villiantine's Day - 2/14, Toons in Tights - 2/18

Just a random observation. Did anyone notice that both Boomerang and Toon Disney ran "Villian-tine's Day" marathons on Feb. 14, and today both are running President's Day "Superhero"-themed marathons? Coincidence... or just uncreative programmers?

Just a case of "anything you can do, we can do better" among programmers at competing networks.
