"Pop band Gorillaz, the cartoon group created by Damon Albarn, are set to feature in their own film.
The Blur frontman said the animated band's second album will be the soundtrack for the movie.

The group is fronted by four animated characters created by cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, with music made by Albarn and a range of collaborators.

They had hits with songs including Clint Eastwood last year and are set to perform at the Brit Awards on Wednesday, where they are nominated in six categories."

I enjoy Clint Eastwood, though i've never seen the video. Actually, i had no idea that they were animated characters  . Boy am i out of it :D . But hopefully their movie is as good as their music.

Yeah, I heard that on the Radio in January I think. I think it said either Spielberg or Burton was gonna be directing it, all The Gorillaz had to was "stay cool." :D

Sweet. The animation is already really high-quality (for music videos anyway), so hopefully with a movie budget, it'll be awesome.

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of the gorillaz, but if the movie has an actual plot and good writing then who knows.

Any word if this is going to be a "use-dialouge" movie or a "music-driven" movie?

I think it'll be more or less the 'troubles of being stars'. Heh. Anyway..I'm a big Gorillaz fan(even though I dont care for a number of songs on their CD. I still find them-overall-incredibly enjoyable. Love that 19/2000! ;)
BTW, anyone seen the pics of the Gorillaz action figures, coming out? Beautiful. I want Murdoc SO much! Love that guy...also want his car. Oh yes...with the missile launcher feature...and a "highway" playset to go along? Plastic was made for playsets like that... ^_^

Well the difference here is I think whereas the Spice Girls, Britney, etc are nothing more than corporate tools, there's actual talent and creativity behind the Gorillaz.

Yeah, plus it's not it's live-action, the cartoon videos are entertaining as well. :) Maybe it'll be something about the Gorillas from the Clint Eastwood video.

I never really liked any of their songs, but if it looks good, I'll watch it.

No, it is not at ALL the same. Not remotely!

You`re thinking of movies ABOUT actual celebrities, that play off their music and popularity.

The Gorillaz were created to BE cartoon characters... they were ALWAYS intended to be involved in an ongoing story (and a pretty complicated one at that) Not to sound mean or anything, but you couldnt have gotten it more backwards!

And i`m someone who`s only heard maybe three or four of their songs anyway...

Yeah, they're great. But I love just about anything done by Jaime "Tank-Girl" Hewlett.

Well, I agree and disagree. Personally, they seem pretty average characters. I enjoyed the Gorillaz video, but they haven't presented me with anything more interesting character wise.

As for them being artistic... yes and no. yes Hewitt is a great artist (I've followed his work since his 2000AD debut on Sooner Or Later) but this movie is to sell records and toys - it's a money maker as is the concept album.
But then, wasn't He-Man? Transformers? Indeed they were and they were great, so in that repsect, I will try not to be too hard in my judgement and wait until I see it..

Perhaps I was a little negative back there... but not much ;)

Well, first of all, Thank you for trying to have a more positive outlook on it. :D

The Characters all have a lot of characteristics that I really enjoy. I love the animation(especially the CG/cel combo's.)

The way I look at the Gorillaz..is, it's purpose is totally 'commercial'. We get animated series, which are basically big toy commercials...and we get music which is just 'movie advertisment'. BUT, for once, Gorillaz is just music advertisement, with actual characters & a story behind it(sort of..). Toys & such came later on. The animated music video's came first. So...thats just how I see it.

Why do people hate the Spice Girl Movie?

It's no like it promoted them, or tried to boost them up and make them into real actresses. It was to laugh at them.

Basically a Kids in the Halll movie starring the Spice Girls.

And I remember, hearing once that Steven Spielberg had something to do with bringing the Gorillaz to film.

I don't see a movie like this doing well in theatres tho. I'll go see it, but I don't know about the general public.

That`s all that was bothering me...I don`t mind when celebrities are accused of being corporate shills, but *fictional* characters always have at least some amount of heart put into their creation. Yeah, EVERYTHING in the end is just to fatten some buisinessman`s wallet, but somewhere in there is always the original cartoonist or writer that actual cares about their creation... I think...

Look, we're not talking about "The Archies" here. The Gorillaz concept is closer to a outlandish "real" band, rather than an animated pop group. I've heard rumors that Spielberg was tapped to direct the movie. Personally, I'd say that that would be a big mistake. Steven Spielburg's image just doesn't mesh with the Gorillaz image. They need somebody dark and spooky, like Tim Burton.
