The Disney Channel, barely edging out the USA network.

With the final 2007 Nielsen Media Research numbers in, Disney Channel is the top cable network in Primetime with Total Viewers (2.69 million) for the first time in the networks history, ahead of USA Network which delivered 2.68 million viewers. Other Disney Channel highlights for 2007 include:

Congrats to the Disney Channel. They had an incredible year in terms of ratings. And boy, those women 18-49 love their Playhouse Disney.;)

As much as I hate to admit it, the really good*, really cool**, really edgy***, really creative**** stuff just will never be as popular as I'd like it to be. (As in, everybody-in-the-world-watches-it popular)

Disney certainly has done a lot of things right lately. Their Jetix block collects some great classics, and their family-friendly content ensures a wide range of ratings shares. They're capable of delivering homogeneous and decently entertaining content that, while I don't personally find fulfilling, is undeniably a hit with many people.

They worked to get those ratings, and they got 'em. Good for them.

I'm surprised their victory was "bare." Disney Channel was the loudest cable network of the year; you could not escape their merchandise. What does USA show again?

Those 18-49 numbers for the preschool stuff are...interesting, but it probably has more to do with stay-at-home moms watching what their children watch. Even still, maybe there will be more car ads on Pooh next season.
