Who will beat the clock?
http://library.toonzone.net/talkbacks/wwe.jpghttp://library.toonzone.net/talkbacks/smackdown.jpgRace against time
January 4, 2008
As time winds down on 2007, the first SmackDown of the New Year will see Superstars competing in a Beat the Clock Challenge, as announced by General Manager Vickie Guerrero. Who will participate and try to earn a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity against Edge at Royal Rumble? Rumored competitors include former World Champions Undertaker, Batista and Rey Mysterio, as well as United States Champion MVP and the Irishman, Finlay. Who will step up to the challenge and vie for the title at Royal Rumble? Can the Rated-R Superstar, his lover Vickie, and Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder find a way to keep the gold in Edge’s hands?
What will 2008 hold for the Superstars of SmackDown? There is only one way to find out, and that is to tune in each and every Friday on The CW Network to Friday Night SmackDown.

By this time, I think it's safe to say that the Montreal Screwjob has done more damage to WWE storytelling than it ever did to Bret Hart.

I don't really care for Coach calling the action on SmackDown! I sure hope he's not the new full-time anchorman, though Cole said Coach wasn't the only new addition to SmackDown! making it seem like that may be the case.

I thought the Coach was an odd replacement but he did fine actually. He didn't over-endorse the heels. Basically he's doing the same thing he's been doing on Heat and that is put over everyone. Not that I have a problem with that as I'm impressed with Coach supposedly a heel liking when faces do great wrestling moves.
I don't mind Rey-Rey as Edge's opponent at the Rumble. It continues the recent trend of the #1 contenders at the Rumble being some of the more mid-card. Like Hardcore Holly against Brock Lesnar for example.
Overall, a decent Smackdown.

The only problem with that statement is Rey has been more of a major card player for the last two and a half years, when he's not injured. Heck, he held the World Championship for a number of months, and they've made it clear he won't be going back to the Cruiserweight Division. The only thing he's done as a mid-carder recently was face MVP, and that was solely because Matt had to get his appendicitis taken care of before he could return.
I disliked how WWE Creativity once again used the heel ref format. Striker has been a heel ref too many times before. Why would this time have been any different? I did like how Cole and Coach kept going back and forth on Jimmy Wang Yang and Jimmy Yang Wang. It shows just how out of touch Coach was with the SmackDown! roster and shows he's still prone to mistakes, but he has improved immensely since when he was part of the 3-man booth on RAW a few years ago.
FYI- I didn't get home until 8, so I only saw the second half of the show.

When will they get Vicki Guerrero 1) out of the wheelchair she doesn't need, 2) out of the GM's office, and 3) to stop wearing the neck brace. She was tombstoned nearly 2 months ago if my math is right, but most heels don't oversell it the way she has. It's irresponsible booking that makes some people think a certain writer is getting paychecks from both WWE & TNA.
Why have Striker screw Undertaker, when in the very next match Rey Mysterio beat the clock anyway? All you do is take 8-9 seconds off the clock, dropping it from 6:02 to 5:54 or 5:53. All that does is set up UT to be the first repeat winner of the Rumble since Steve Austin 10 years ago.
Chavo acted as if he has a problem with his Aunt Vicki mixing business with pleasure, but the skit just, well, collapsed. The segment was, sadly, DOA.
We did NOT need Vince making a cameo. Something's up and about to come to the fore come no later than Wrestlemania I think.
I think Coach is doing the right thing by weaning off the pro-heel leanings. J-Me-L also put faces over in commentary, but was just too much in love with the sound of his own voice, moreso than Coach ever has.
Lena Yada. Yummy.:D
I sense a 6-man next week (Edge & Edgeheads vs. Bats/UT/Rey). Vicki can't avoid this, but when are they going to finally address the plot hole and put Teddy back in charge?

The current rumor mill says Batista will win the Royal Rumble and then go challenge for the RAW title. I guess we'll have to wait and see if that is the case though.

Ugh Batista is starting to wear on me. I can't stand watching him wrestle and i'll be damned if I have to watch him have 10-15 minute promos.
Why not Taker winning the rumble again. He deserves to wear the title again after being put in many matches against stiffs in 2007. Batista relinqueshed his title due to injury and got it back, so did Edge so why not Taker.
As for this week Smackdown it was okay I guess. The matches were good even though most were beat the clock matches.
I don't know about Coach though. I say it should've been Taz, he and Cole had great chemistry together way back when Taz was Smackdown's commentator.
At least Rey winning the title shot at the Rumble is somwhat new. I doubt that he will win the title since Vince does not like small wretlers having major titles but at least Rey gets another chance at it.

Amen to that! I'm sick of evil bosses screwing everybody. It's been done to death, folks! That should be the very first thing taught at booking school: PEOPLE HATE SCREWJOB FINISHES! A very simple lesson that seemingly nobody ever learns. Jim Cornette and Teddy Long (when he was in charge) were like a breath of fresh air.... but the Vicki-Edge storyline has all but driven me away from Smackdown. We need more 'tweener bosses.....
Anyhow, the rumor that keeps buzzing in my ear (please take this with a whole block of salt) is that ECW and Smackdown are going to merge and become simply ECW, making WWE two brands once again....

Oh please let that be false. Batista needs to get out of the title picture that he's perpetually been in for the past 2 years. He just isn't main event material. He's a decent and impressive-looking wrestler, and he has some good charisma, but he has no character.
