This IS great news!
Just last night the kids & I were discussing cartoons - and I was telling them how very good Lantz' cartoons are! Being 11 and 16 they've seldom seen Woody, Andy, Chilly and the gang in their REAL pre-1960's greatness!
BTW, I didn't buy the Tom & Jerry DVD because it is edited, so I'm praying that they release these UNCUT (the ONLY way to watch classic animation, right?:))

Oh yeah! Now this is more like it! I hope they put a few "Oswald" cartoons in the collection.

My -- this IS a bit of good news. I can hardly wait. I just hope their choice of cartoons is a good one.
If Columbia House is reading this and looking for suggestions, I hope they add the following cartoons.
1. "Recruiting Daze"
2. "The Screwdriver"
3. "The Loan Stranger"
4. "Jungle Jive"
5. "Smoked Hams"
6. "Scrappy Birthday"
7. "What's Sweepin'?"
8. "Maw and Paw"
9. "Bunco Busters"
10. "Space Mouse"
11. "Freeloading Feline"
12. "Tepee for Two"
13. "Guest Who?"
This is excellent, fantastic, wonderful news! I'm so excited!

Wow! I've held off on joining before, but I'll have to sign up for the club for this stuff! :D
I just noticed last week that the Woody petition (with Jon's cover) is featured at animationondvd.com. And we also had Andy Panda as Nelson's Star of the Month! Weird coincidence!

Same here... I couldn't justify signing for the Looney Tunes series (since I already owned the bulk of those same cartoons on old WB and MGM/UA videos).
As for the Woody series... Columbia House, tell me where to send my money! :)

That is certainly excellent news :D :D :D
The only thing that would dispoint me, if they don't include any "Oswald" cartoons on this set. I mean who wouldn't want to see such classic Oswald shorts as...MARS, THE HUNTER, and CONFIDENCE.

Or ALASKA, CHILLY CON CARMEN, SLICK SALESMAN, and HELL'S HEELS.
(And of course, I'm only talking of some early ones that I've seen... there are so many more that I haven't, and that could be great!)

I have one question, seeing as how the Lantz DVD is a) from Columbia House and b) being reported at Jerry's site...
Is Jerry Beck going to be involved in the making and/or cartoon selections for this collection? If so, that's good because there are a few cartoons I would like to ask him to include...

That's what I hate about Columbia House. Not only do they make you join a mailing list in order to buy, but they also charge $600 per video/DVD!

I have lots of early Lantz "Oswalds" (including, "Hell's Heels"). But the one I REALLY want to see is the 1933 classic, OSWALD IN THE ZOO which, I heard had allot of gags thought up by Tex Avery in it.:)

IMO: This set "WON'T" be complete is there is no Oswald cartoons on any of the volumes.

Are you sure it's $600 for A video/DVD? I bought the first ten LT videos from them, and each (except for the first one) one was $25 (that's with tax added on). The REAL price of it is $19.95 (without tax and S&H) and the real price of their DVDs is $30 (probably $36 in all with tax and S&H). But the DVD collections usually include 2 volumes, don't they?

Here's the quote straight from their website:
For DVD Series:
You may choose any series from the list, and receive an introductory DVD for just $4.95 plus $3.99 shipping and handling and become a subscriber to the series. You will then receive another DVD in the series every 4 to 6 weeks for just $19.95 to $34.95 plus shipping and handling (or less as noted), always with a 10-day risk-free preview.

What the funny thing is about this, is that I was typing my ideas of which cartoons should be put on the videos, and the titles of them. Two of the titles I came up with are Panda-Monium and Still Peckin'. Obviously, you should know which characters these volumes are featuring...

How about a possible pun/title for a Chilly Willy volume? Chilly Con Carne? Chilly Factor? Ugh... Nevermind, those are terrible. :p

Oh, wow- I can hardly believe my ears!! At last, the Universal cartoons being released on DVD no less :D - I thought it would never happen!!
Let's hope Columbia House doesn't go down the same road they did for the Warner cartoons, and avoid certain titles because of.... well, you know ;)
I have been dying to see some of the Swing Symphonies like "Boogie Woogie Sioux", "Pass The Biscuits Mirandy", "Yankee Doodle Swing Shift", and "Abou Ben Boogie"... I'll bet they're just chock full of Emery Hawkins animation :p !!
Imagine, seeing new transfers of all the Culhane cartoons too- Columbia House, sign me up!!! Even if these DVDs were $50 a pop, it would still be worth it- there just aren't copies of some of these rare ones out there at all, and you can expect to pay over $150 per print if you ever see one come up on E-bay. I can hardly wait to see a menu listing of them!!

A perfect volume would be Swing Symphonies grouped together as at least one VHS/DVD, if not more

A perfect volume would cost $20 and could be bought outright, without a mailing list.

I'll tell you guys one thing on this subject matter, but I think that this brings all of us die-hard classic cartoon fans "MAJOR" justice that finally a major company is releasing classic cartoons on the home video market.Considering that Walter Lantz made cartoons for Universal for over 40 years and only to see (back in the 80s)a small handfull of videos that did not give him the attention he so truly deserved from his own Hollywood home.
If Lantz were alive to see the excellent news about his cartoons finally being released in volume sets, that this would make him so proud and honored.

I bet if Lantz was still alive we'd see Woody and the gang a LOT more...

Questions:
1) Where on Jerry Beck's Cartoons Page?
2) What the VHS/DVD Lantz Cartune was available on Canada?
Thanks! :D

1. Click here (http://www.cartoonresearch.com/lantz.html) It's in the first paragraph on the page.
Can't answer two, I'm assuming Columbia House DVDs are available in Canada.
