I'm really looking forward to this ep. I have to commend the SS crew for willing to deal with controversial situations like these. I mean, when's the last time a kid's cartoon has dealt with homeless children with mental problems? The only one I remember is TNBA, where they subtly touched on it in Growing Pains, but didn't deal with it head on like they're going to in SS. It should be a touching ep, but I wonder if they'll be able to do it without it seeming to preachy or sappy.

Honestly, as much as i dislike SS, i want to see this ep. I don't know if i can get myself up to watch it, but if i'm awake at 8:30, i know i'll tune in :p .

2 words: VCR Programming!
That's the only way I can ever watch SS and JCA. Usually I can get up for X-men.

This ep looks to be incredible! Is it just me or does the animation even seem to look more vivid than the last one (the surprisingly good Shaq episode)? Really looking forward to this episode, but then again I look forward to all new Static Shock eps. :D
Can't wait to see the conclusion to the JCA continuation either - seems to be a great arc so far.

--the potential to be a very strong show if they don't rely too heavily on gimmicky, stupid Bang Babies and celeb cameos every other episode. So far we've seen some pretty strong stories (although I'll admit that the "loved one inadvertantly learns our hero's secrets" story, this time with Sharon and a shapeshifting Baby who throws her off-track, has made the rounds a time or two) this season. It seems Rubber Band Man is history, and Kangor and the Rough Pack will be the new semiregular Babies. He might do well to team up with Puff, who nearly unmasked Static last season, to compare notes....

The episode is called Frozen Out and deals with Faith in God and the homeless problem. I recently interveiwed writer Len Uhley about it, which you can find HERE (forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=163516#post163516). I also hope to intevriew the director of the episode by the end of the week to help hype the episode. Comments? Ask them if they ever plan to do a Superman crossover featuring Live Wire as the villain, since the Batman and Joker ep seemed so popular.

I don't think there's Superman/Livewire episode coming, but I'll try and find out what else they have in the works. I'll have another interview about the ep up today which reveals an interesting tidbit about the episode...someone dies. Wanna know more? I'll keep ya posted - and check the newspage!!

It's not a main character, is it? More likely it's either the guest star/villain or the villains father/mother. I couldn't see a main character being put to rest.

According to the news page, Rubberband Man is now a full fledged hero. So he'll probably pop up to team w/ Static (but that's just my speculation, not actual news).
And now i'm looking forward to seeing someone die! Woah... that didn't come out right :o  . But i'm glad that they've decided to take this show a little more seriously then last season. Eps w/ Virgil's mother, racism, this next one, and death are on the right track.

Glad you're enjoying the show. Just for the record, the racism episode, "Sins of the Fathers" and the death of Virgil's mother episode, "Tantrum" were from *last* season (as was Static's origin, where a friend gave him a gun to shoot a bully who was tormenting him). This year will likewise be a mix of light topics and more serious ones.
Rubberband Man will definitely be back, by the way.

To me, Static Shock is becoming the standout series on Kids'WB! Yes, it doesn't have the movie tie-in like The Mummy or the slick animation of X-Men: Evolution, but this series is doing a great job! I really hope this series sticks around. I can't wait to hear the talkback (in this thread) about the episode.

I have an odd feeling it'll be the Bang Baby herself...poisoned by her mutation. If that's so, she'd be the first Baby to actually die from her condition (unless you count Omni-something-or-other from last season, who turned to stone). This would give Static reason to question himself--could the chemicals in his body be slowly killing him too?
As for RBM--it'd be nice to see him as a hero, which'd explain why he's been replaced in the fight montage cred roll...although it might be interesting to see him butt heads with Stat on style--sort of a grudging partnership, like Batman and Superman....

Yep, that's what I thought when Jim said someone dies - gotta be the bang baby or someone in her family. I've enjoyed this series from day one and truly hope that a season 3 announcement will be right around the corner.
On another topic, Jim has there been any word about Zeta Project? Or is it getting the Futurama treatment? (have an entire season in the can, plus one unaired ep from last season - so maybe next year we could have new eps and not pay for a third season).

Gee, I hate to be a wet blanket about this, folks, but the death that director Dave Chlystek mentioned is not the main thrust of "Frozen Out." I think Dave and his crew handled the scene tastefully. However, it is part of our guest star's personal history; a contributing factor to her mental state. I wouldn't want anyone tuning in, hoping for blood and guts, only to be disappointed. But do watch anyway, okay? :)

Nope, can't watch it now - I mean no blood and guts, no glory. :) j/k BTW
I can't wait to see this episode - the previews for it look amazing and I think the coloring on it seems to be a lot more vivid than a lot of the other episodes this season (maybe its the white background effect on Statics blue jacket - either way it looks incredible).

I heard that the show will air in the late spring, likely in the end of March and continue on until May. I'm thinking this may be another 'Futurama' case, personally. I'll see what I can come up with.

No problem, I'll see what I can do. Now...back to Static. I haven't seen a design for the new Permafrost character, but I would like to see what she looks like. And a homeless villian? That's anice twisat. I know I've seen it before, but I'm interested to see how it works here.

I have a gut feeling that this is going to be one of the best episodes this season! Not only does the story actually sound great but the animation on it - WOW! I can't remember the last time I saw a toon that vivid! Kinda funny because the preview was on right after the episode and it was a complete contrast in colors between the two, then again it could be an effect the white 'snow' backgrounds have on Statics design - making it look more vivid.

Wow...what a great episode. The vocal performance by Permafrost was amazing - intense. This show now ranks up there with SONS OF THE FATHER as one of my favorite episodes. Plus, I liked the cameo by Richie's father, the center of last season's racism centered episode. I like that reference - nice job. LaMarr did a great job as Virgil, noticeably bringing him down a bit when he entered the abandoned car depot. He wasn't his usually quick talking self, but very quiet and done to earth - serious.
And the backgrounds looked amazing, much better compared to previous episodes. This episode had a unique feel and it helped emphasize the theme of the episode.
A great episode. Now I gotta wait until it repeats so I can tape it...

Balderdash! I only caught the last 15min of it..but what a great 15 min those were! I hope this re-airs soon..real soon...
BTW-any of you see that preview? About the guest stars on Static, and they showed Batman? then Joker said "What do I have to do to get mentioned? sprout bat wings?"...ah..it wasn't nearly as funny as some of the others they've done..but it was good..

This was a great episode, maybe not quite Sons of the Father, but it was still a genuinely touching ep. I'm amazed that they were able to pull this episode without even a hint of preachyness. Amazing. The story itself was excellent, the animation was great, and I loved the coloring in the ep. They did a great job separating Permafrost from the "normal" type of villains. I loved her backstory. Some of the scenes, especially the one where Virgil sees Permafrost's "home" for the first time were... well, very heartfelt.
I also thought it was pretty cool seeing Richie's dad at the multi-cultural church gathering. All in all, I loved this episode.

Anyone else notice this great touch? At the end when Permafrst is talking to the Reverend, her skin is no longer light blue, but flesh toned. I thought that was a neat little trick.

I enjoyed the episode...and was the Michael Dorn doing the Preacher guy?(Nick show's his ignorace of the Christian Religion)
I had one small problem with the episode.....the chanukah stuph was wrong....the "center" candle is lit 1st, and used to light the others....not the other way around. Other than that little nitpick, that episode was fabulous! Too bad it aired in the wrong time of the year for full effect...

Hey, everyone. I'll add my thanks for your kind words about Frozen Out. Big kudos to Dave Chlystek's team for making it look so good.
As for the query about upcoming episodes, please check out the Toon Zone home page and read "Perry White's" item at the bottom listing the upcoming shows on Kids WB. Next week, they're showing another new show, "Sunspots" (preceded by a repeat of the season premiere, "The Big Leagues," one of my favorites, wink-wink). The following week is "Pop's New Girlfriend," also new, also very good.
Again, thanks for the encouragement. :D

I noted it in my review. I thought she would have a condition like Victor Fries, whose blood was permanently chilled, and temperatures above freezing would kill him...but she seems to be like a lizard, reflecting her environment. I suppose if she were relocated to a clime like Florida or Arizona, she could be very happy. The v/o work was great; I was misty at the end--she sounded perfectly borderline psychotic, yet pitiable. It's not said what killed her mother, although, noting the O2 tank, I guessed emphysema....

Congrats on the great job guys and I'm really looking forward to the future eps. Scott Jeralds, our producer, actually had our color team match
the ice effects from the Ultimate X-Men comic book. Tristin
Roesch, our color supervisor, matched it perfectly. I don't think
any animated show has matched our color pallette this season.

I remembered you mentioned that chase sequence in the interview, but it wasn't what I thought iot would be - in a good way. I love the part where Perma frost skids under the truck. It just all seeemd to work perfectly. The colors, the speed, the music (my Gawd - what an improvement there!), it all meshed into a nice cohesive segment.

Well Dave you should definetely give them all a pat on the back. They really pulled off the ice effects that seem to run through the X-books. The coloring reminded me of the cover of Uncanny X-men #340 - it was just that amazing and the colors were gorgeous. The episode all flowed together perfectly and I found myself chuckling at some comments (hot chocolate anyone?) and then caring about Permafrost the next. An incredible job by everyone involved. I think it was Dave Chlystek who billed this as a sort of 'holiday' episode of Static Shock, and I can see why. It deals with some rather weighty issues, and pulls oit off in style. One of my favorite Static Shock episodes, thought now was a nice time to bump up this talkback to discuss this episode with fellow Static fans.

IMHO this was one of the best Static episodes that have been done so far and really brought the Permafrost character to life, making the audience very sympathetic to her. With all of the Christmas specials the WB have been airing it would have been a nice touch to see this one re-aired.
