I do it this way, I eat a bite of dessert (cookies or candy) before dinner to starve off hunger before dinner.

Seems more like just a snack to me than full-on desert. (Which makes me think of something more like a slice of cake and a couple scoops of ice cream.) I usually don't eat a full lunch and will just snack throughout the day until it's dinner time, then later at night I'll usually have another snack.

If I eat dessert first, I won't be in the mood for the less tasty, healthy food.

Curse you, dessert.

I think the idea is just to eat the more important meal first in case you aren't hungry enough to eat both. But if you can eat both, then whatever.

Eating anything sweet makes me hungry for hearty, salty things and vice versa. I have to alternate, and it even carries over to the next day. If the last thing I had before bed was meat, I wake up wanting chocolate.

It's best to eat the meal first because it's more important to your body. Afterwards you can add some sugar or whatnot if you were displeased with any of the food you've previously eaten. Make sure to brush your teeth after you eat. ;)
