I'm working on a website that features silent Felix the Cat cartoons from the mid 20's. I found these on a cheapie public domain cartoon DVD collection and bought it for the reason that these were on them. I found them interesting, and if you do, here's the link:

I'll be adding more until my supply of 6 or 7 is exhausted and I'll have to go on the hunt for more.

I'd also take a peek at the Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/movies); they have a few of the silent Felix cartoons as well (not to mention a pretty good stash of other public domain cartoons you might enjoy). Even if you already have most of those Felix cartoons, you'll still have fun.

Speaking of Felix, I can't decide which version of Felix I like the best. I'm sort of partial to the 90s CBS cartoon, but the jury's still out.

Very interesting. I like how the still frames tell a story like a comic strip (of course, since there was no sound, early cartoons basically were animated comic strips.)

The first Felix cartoon, 1919's Feline Follies, appears as a bonus feature alongside some other silent cartoons on Warner Home Video's fantastic Popeye DVD set. It's a simple story about Felix going out on a date with his girl. While he's away, as the saying goes, the mice play and make a mess- and Felix gets blamed, of course. The ending is really bizarre- Felix goes back to see his girl, and notices she now has a bunch of kids! (I'll let you make your own Jamie Lynn Spears joke.) Realizing he's responsible, Felix sticks his head under a gas pipe. I guess it didn't work though, since he's been with us ever since- then again, they say cats have nine lives.

You can find nearly all of them (Felix is public domain so its legal) on YouTube.
