I guess it's that it's aimed at younger children but Storm Hawks has been disappointing to me for a while now, admittedly my little cousin still enjoys it but the first few episodes seemed to promise an ongoing plot arc which seems to have been abandoned in favour of a more episodic format.

Well, this is kind of how most shows work really. Get an inticing plot to make you watch, and then have some episodic stuff(Recent examples include Reaper and Chuck)
Personally, I didn't care for Storm Hawks, but everyone is intitled to their own opinion

It's not just her. If it was, the ratings wouldn't have plummetted.

The first part was a laying down of the overall story,,, why are there Skyknights,,, who are the bad guys,,, why are they bad. Lately they have been using the stories to show different aspects of the characters backgrounds. I don't find the story to be developing as well as the beginning, but still want too watch. I like the animation, characters, and story. I'll still watch all I can. But no, I doubt "young" viewers will get this at all. That's why I fear for it's long term storyline.
I don't think Canadian story lines should be seen with the same expectations as anime. They don't have a manga background. Their stories are raw,,, and often written on "what can we do next week". (I think)

There is still a basic plotline that puts the episodes together, but it appears that they have taken a back seat to these new episodes. If Cartoon Network chooses, they may not air the second season due to the falling ratings.

I wasn't aware that Storm Hawks had a storyline that mirrored japanese cartoons. Could you elaborate on how Storm Hawks' storyline is lacking?

Okay I've done a little homework since making this thread and apparently we are due some origin episodes towards the end of the 52 episode arc.
While that feels miles away I'm pleased to hear it nontheless.

Well I like Storm Hawks bit I can see some faults in it.
While I wouldn't say it is written like a manga it does seem to share the element of "we'll come up with the next thing next week" in a sort of 1 chapter each week storyline. But unlike most Japanese comics it doesn't have a storyline that continues in each episode but instead a loose storyline that has a continuity. And there's nothing wrong with that as plenty of great shows have done the same. Reboot, Justice League, Teen Titans, TMNT 2003, The Batman, etc. So it's really more like those types of series than a manga. These types of shows have continuity when neccessary but don't often rely on cliff-hangers outside of a few episodes per season.
What I'd say Storm Hawks lacks story wise is a direction. Yes they're out stopping Cyclonia a little every fight but they're not really doing anything. Which makes it a little too open ended for my tastes. Teen Titans didn't have many cliff-hangers but the plot definently progressed over each season. What exaclty are the Storm Hawks accomplishing? What is their goal? It's not made very clear and the humor and interesting characters can't make up for that.
I think it's a fun show but unless it takes a turn into a more interesting direction then it'll never be more than a mild amusement. I like EPIC action cartoons. JLU was epic, TMNT 2003 was epic, Reboot was epic, Beastwars was epic, One Piece is epic. You can have humor and still be epic of course not even one of those shows doesn't take a moment to joke around a bit. That kind of mix of comedy, drama and action is what makes me love a cartoon.

Hopefully CN actually gets around to airing them but that's a very good change of pace none the less.

Who says they will air them? Just because they partnership in it with YTV doesn't mean they have to air the rest.

They've got the death slot. I give them 2 months to live.
But it's a pretty good show, I think.

The CGI isn't exactly good and kills any hope for a good storyline for me.

I'm not sure if I would write off the show just yet. Yes, it has the famous 6:30am death slot, but I thought that it was on there for more than two months before CN took it off for awhile. Besides that, CN gave that slot back to Storm Hawks just last week. I agree that its a good show, but I do hope that they'll improve on its flaws such as the plot and the action.
