That is the best cover of B:GA to date. Cooke needs to be in this book so bad!!! I don't even care about the story, just gimme the cover... :D

That could very well be the most awesome cover ever! I don't know what that issue is going to be about, but I have to get it.

*gasp* Holy crap. That's beautiful!

My only complaint is that the Bat-emblem doesn't seem to align with the way Batman's chest is defined. It's also interesting to compare this cover with JL Advs. #7, which is also by Darwyn Cooke. This is light-years better than the JL cover, IMHO.

Amazing cover, and hopefully a decent issue art and story wise. Peterson made a point of sticking with Templeton's idea of a growing seperation between the Bat and the Cat. I pray he doesn't just bring an end to it by placing a sugar-sweet happy ending. Although I know Batman and Catwoman can't and shouldn't really stay enemies, I don't trust Peterson to properly resolve the mature issues brought up in B: GA #4.
But that cover is really unique and not at all what I expected! Nice job Darwin, please DRAW US AN ISSUE!!!!

I already know that the story won't match the fine art inside it. I just love that cover. Man I wish Darwyn would stop in here sometime (hint, hint) and give us a few pointers. His cover to BGA is awesome and is quite possible the best one ever for the animated Batman comics.

Howdy all,
Wacky cool nifty cover. Darwyn Cooke was the reason why I picked up the Catwoman comic (even after I swore never to buy a comic purely based on the art after the whole Todd McFarlane & Image debut/debacle), and his departure will probably be why I stop buying it. I may need to get BGA#50 just for that wicked cool cover.
And I liked his JL cover! The story sounds like it'd fit the Atom better than the Flash, though.
If he ever does stop in here, though, we may have to start running 2 polls over in the Comics thread, though =8^).

Whoah!! That has to be the most beautiful piece of artwork I've ever seen on the cover of a comic! Darwyn Cooke did a really fantastic job there!
See ya!

This is easily one of the best animated-covers in a long time. I just wonder what the story is about; I know a few months ago Scott Peterson was really happy about it, especially since it's double-sized. Haven't seen that in this series for 49 issues!

Actually, Tim, I think Peterson or Levins stated that since the comic isn't selling tremendously well, issue number 50 won't be double-sized. According to the preview solicitations, though, it will be 32 pages. Perhaps our resident reporter Jim Harvey could fill us in on whether or not that means 32 pages of story or 32 pages in total, including ads...

Oh, well maybe it changed, but I know they originally said it would be double-sized. Dang...I would've loved that.

22 page story, folks. The same old, same old. I miss double size comics. Superman Adventures never had one, which is a shame. Could you imagien Superman Adventures #41 as a double sized ish? Wow! But this will be a regular sized issue.

The cover is amazing. I was hoping Cooke would come back after doing the cover to issue #45. I would love to see Cooke take over as the permenant cover artist. Just look at it! Can you imagine every month getting a cover like that?
Just awesome...

Wow! I'll actually have to get that one! I know the story will suck(as Peterson wrote it) But it'll be worth the $2 just for the cover!

Thanks DB!! :D I can be blunt sometimes and it often gets me in trouble at school, but thats OK. I just overall don't like Peterson's writing(and I know you don't either!) But that cover just looks too cool to pass up. Who know, the story might actually be half way readable! ;)

Not sure about that. I synopsis really doesn't give me much faith in the title. I'm beginning to question why I pick up this title, especially since I don't consider this "true" TNBA/BTAS anymore. Force of habit, probably, but I'd like to see something good come out of this title soon...
Joker85
02-19-2002, 06:21 PM
My feelings exactly Jim! I don't consider this any longer part of BTAS OR TNBA. I only bought issues #37-45 out of habit. I picked up the very first Batman Adventures when it came out, and up intil GA #45, got every issue of every form that the comic has been in. It really makes me sad to think how such a great comic has been ruined by basically one man!
James Harvey
02-19-2002, 06:24 PM
Something that really dissapointed me about the comic was that they made The Ventriloquist a villian again after he himself destroyed the Srarface doll. Just didn't make sense to me.
So...back to B:GA #50....:)

I still really like GOTHAM ADVENTURES - Scott Peterson is handing in consistantly good stories. Some great ones, some hits, and some misses. Ty Templeton was the better of the two if I had to compare, but I still like this title a great deal.
Now BATMAN BEYOND - there was a poorly-crafted monthly. Ugh.

Despite the slight goofyness of issue #24, Peterson and Levins did a surprisingly decent job of handling Catwoman....
But if anyone in issue #50 says "Um...Batman" or "you know...sorta" I'm going to flip! These are supposed to be mature adults, not five-year-olds learning how to speak!
In the (arguably funniest) words of Mojo-Jojo:

Oh and as for Peterson doing a decent job....
I think the little smily face says it all! Let's find Kelly Pucket, TY, Darwin, Aluir, Mike Manley, Dorkin, Slott, John Delaney, Bret Blevins and Brubaker to take a swing at things!
Do you guys think this book might improve if a rotating creative team was invovled? I know a lot of you think that's what made Superman Adventures eventually die out, but I really have to wonder...isn't Gotham Adventures on that track anyways? I'd rather see it go out "Like a Bat outta heck" rather than whimper in the hands of the current creative team...

Frankly I'd settle for any change now. A rotating team would be a godsend compared to what this comic has been like for the last 30 issues. This was my favourite comic of all, it was brilliant. Burchett, Templeton...ah..the stories were so great. I've stopped buying it now because I just can't stand the juvenile, short stories and splash pages, and disney art (less and less Timm-style every issue).
I just wish they got a decent penciller like Darwyn, Manley, Rader, Madan, Burchett (my personal favourite), Vokes, Ku, Delaney, Blevins etc.
And that they got a good writer like Ty the Guy, or Puckett back, or someone. I'd love Brubaker but he'd probly be far too busy.

If this is indeed the best Gotham Adventures cover, then Cooke has the best cover for three of the animated books: Justice League (it is an awesome cover), Batman Gotham Adventures, and Batman Beyond...

I can't help but feela bit guilty when I saw I'm look forward to future issues. I know Peterson and Levins put work into this, and I feel bad. But...well...I hasve enjoyed the series lately. Levin's art, while really good, has just strayed too much from the animated style. It just doesn't mesh anymore. Peterson's stories are short and appear juvenile. I just wish things were abit better. I mean no disrespect towards Levins and Peterson, but I guess I'm expecting a bit too much.

Hey DB,
Do you consider the B:GA comic to be "in continuity" in terms of the animated series? (and I'm gonna reply to that PM ya sent ASAP!) If you wanna open a new thread for this topic, Feel free!

Hey, is it just me or does this phrase actually perfectly sum up what's wrong with BGA these days? I mean, the creative team hasn't changed in a looong time, Peterson's stories seem to follow the exact same pattern every issue, and as much as I like Levins' art, a change of pace wouldn't hurt... "the same old, same old" is the ultimate depiction of BGA's current problems :)

I totally agree.
the stories DEFINE the phrase 'run of the mill', and dont even get me started on the art. Im 14 and I draw twice as well in mainstream and animated than levins does.. . .no offense
Im not bragging at all, Im just saying what people are afraid to say, and Im saying it as tactfully as I know how. Im sorry If I offended anybody, but maybe if DC, or whoever is in direct control of Gotham Adv would actually read these boards, or the DC boards for that matter, they would get that the fans arent too happy w/ the way their used-to-be-favorite book has been going for the past year and a half!!!!!!!
one thing I will say that that dude who drew that Batgirl/Robin team-up Hockey story (who also draws alot of Gotham Adv's latest covers) is plain awsome. He's not on the top of my list, but he's pretty friggin close. .

That would be Bob Smith. He has done most of the cover since issue #15. Not only that, be he storyboarded episodes for TNBA and Batman Beyond.

Don't worry, your opinions are understood! You're not the only one disappointed with Levins' past...oh let me see, 40 issues!

Bob Smith's art is so much more on model than Levins' it makes me wonder why he only got to draw one issue. The only reason I like that issue is because of his art. I didn't even understand the ending...but I liked what I saw!

thanx 4 the info DG, and thanx 4 backin me u other peeps, and yes, this Bob Smith is awsome!!~!!!!!
seriously, why hasnt anyone at DC offered him Levin's job?
I honestly cant think of a single reason.
he just has that knack of making every single panel unique.
Re:
:) page 7, panel 3: look at the position of Batgirl's cape, lags and hands. It just leaves such a good taste in ur mouth
:) page 9, panel 1, 2, 3, :) page 10, panel 1: He takes a fight scene and just turns it into something so creative and unique, especially with Robin and babs using eachother as fighting tools, as well as both Rob and Babs evading attacks while at the same time launching one of their own in each panel, OMG
:) page 12, panel 4: look at the smoke from the grappling hooks. beautiful, simply beautiful
:) page 13 panel 3: look at Babs holding her cape. awsome,! the whole girl knife gang thing is a nice touch , too, which prolly gets overlooked
:) page 14 panel 1: look at Babs's position of her legs--so symmetrical! and her right hand, oo great stuff
:) page 19, panel 1: the angle of that shot is just plain MEZMERIZING!!!!!!!!
anywayz, sry this is off-topic, I just got inspired
anywayz, yea gotta love that CW cover
mmmm i have a new love for Darwyn Cooke and Bob Smith

*Joy*
*Slobbering in adoration*
*blushes furiously in anticipation* ANY Catwoman story has always been good to me for the fact that Catwoman is even in it.
Unfortunately, they only did two episodes about her in TNBA and NONE focused on SELINA'S relationship with BRUCE, or how that played into Batman and Catwoman's relationship. Although Cult of the Cat came kinda close, I guess. (They certainly were alot sweeter towards each other than in Scratch my back.) That very special reason is why I enjoyed TLH and Dark Victory so much, they explored what the cartoon didn't, that Bruce could have a meaningful relationship with the woman who was created to be his love intrest. Freak Talia, Andrea, Silver, Vesper and who ever the hell else they keep trying to push onto Bruce's *ahem* batarang.
I'll be satisfied if there's at least some closure, good or bad, and I'll treasure it always just because she's my favorite character besides the Huntress, and I will always have my fantasies. Ahhh, Bruce, Selina, and a private island with no one to bother them forever and ever...:p
