Jump Festa 2008 news thread (spoilers)

Okay, people. The Shounen Jump (and Japan in general) con of the year is this weekend, and it's already kicked off. Anyone who finds news should post it here.

One of the first bits of news. Japan will get all 291 episodes of DBZ available over cellphone. This is a pretty big development for the release of anime, even though it doesn't directly affect us. I wonder if other Toei shows will follow.

Also, there's a longer trailer for One Piece movie 9, that shows, among other things Luffy using Gear 2nd Gatling Gun.

That's pretty insane. I could have seen certain eps being available for that, but the whole freaking series? Another question remains: will these be taken from the DragonBox masters?

That looks fantastic. There's also confirmation of yet another One Piece game coming out next year in the style of Grand Battle expect it's a Card Game. I wonder why we haven't seen any news of that yet.

Yeah, I'm betting there will be some info on this made available. It's the only new Shounen Jump series we're definitely getting in early 2008, so they'll want to pimp it. Perhaps the cast will be announced.

We can only hope. That would be an amazing early Christmas present from Toei and Bandai. Either a Savers sequel or a whole new series would be good.

I think it's best to wait patiently until Disney loses the rights to the entire Digimon anime series and one of the more better anime distributors(e.g. New Galaxy Anime and FUNi) license rescue Digimon, otherwise when the next installment(if there's one in the works already) gets imported into the USA, it'll probably have a hackdub riddled with cheesy dialog to replace the serious and important dialog, an earsplitting American musical score sung by today's A-list celebs, personality and name changes to make the show uber-cliched, "The Next Dimension"-style death rewrites, 9/11 coverups and other types of groan-worthy changes.

So, at the first One Piece panel, Oda teased that there is a 'massive surprise' coming in the next year. But he's not positive if he'll get to it yet, so he didn't want to say more and get people's hopes up again (like the time he mentioned 'a crew member dying in the next year' 3 years before the Going Merry died).

Savers actually appeared quite frequently in the Top 10 of anime ratings while it was airing, while Frontier only appeared about 4 times in the Top 10.

In the 3 years between frontier and savers, ratings overall for anime decreased about 30%. Factoring in that, and that it appeared a lot in the top 10 especially when the plot kicked in, it did much better, and about on par with the first 3.

As far as Kishimoto starting by focusing on Sasuke, it makes sense. He's going to be in his main battle of the series, while Naruto doesn't exactly have something major going on right now.

I'm also excited with Boring-sensei's death probably coming next year, based on what Kishimoto is saying. That should be sweet to finally see.

Naruto hasn't done anything since Kishimoto seemingly hates him. He sent the character off on training which proved useless. He missed out on promotion whilst off on this training. Lastly, everytime he seems to create a decent technique there's some reason given for him not to use it.
