View Full Version : John Delaney's Sketch of the Week #8
Harley

Welcome to "John Delaney's Sketch of the Week"!
Out of the kindness of his art, John Delaney is doing something big for the fans - an exclusive weekly sketch for the fans who frequent Toon Zone!
Every week, he will draw a new picture based on the results of the poll. That means that *we* fans choose what the image will be!
The contest will begin every Monday, and end at 5pm the following Friday, giving fans a solid five days to choose. You can only vote ONCE! John will then draw the sketch over the weekend and we'll present at the beginning of the following week. The characters must be animation/comic characters drawn in the Animated style, and if you have any requests for future polls, send me an email with your ideas! Keep an eye out on the Comics Forum for all the latest action!
Sound good? You can also post your thoughts on the poll in this thread.
So...let the voting begin on "John Delaney's Sketch of the Week"!
P.S. Keep on sending those requests in!!! If there's a character you'd like to see back on the poll again, send requests for that too. harley@toonzone.net Make sure to take a look at the Gallery , which collects all the images done for this poll.

Batman Green Lantern hybrid? Is the well *that* dry on *real* characters? Ok, none of these are *real* characters, but I think we're getting pretty ridiculous.
And Billie? What the... How about Pinky? Or maybe the Brain! John chooses the outfit. But Billie? Ugh... Next week I'm voting for Maurice the carrot... But it'll be a close call between him and Fabritzio Ditzio from the Calvin Brain ep.....
I understand the idea of doing people who aren't regulars on the shows, but GL/Batman hybrid is just crazy.... And he actually has votes! Oh brother.....
For the record, I voted for Freeze. Now that could make a cool sketch....

Later,
Randy H Say it ain't so, Randy H! We are far from running out of characters (we have some good ones this week), but don't you think an idea this creative would be a nice change of pace? I can't speak for John himself, but it sounds really fun to me. I'm going to throw my support towards Green Lantern Batman, although we have so many great choices, I don't think I'll be disappointed either way.

A change of pace, yes. Nice, maybe. Crazy.. Definitely. When there are alot of good real characters still out there, I don't see the point.
I guess we'll call this "obscure characters no one really wants week"... When the moderators expect us not to know who the character is (i.e the show name in parantheses), it's a good bet they're too obscure. In the case of characters like goliath, where the name could mean several different people, I see the point in the show title reminders, but with Billie, even 5 out of every 100 folks wouldn't think of her by name. Why put her on there? I barely remember her, and I'm a huge P&tB fan! Putting her on the poll before Pinky himself is just nuts.
But hey, bring on GL/Bats Hybrid if it gets him off the poll next week.... I shudder to think what would take his place, though... :)
-Randy H
I voted Mr. Freeze. The rest of the characters were...different. :)
If Mr. Freeze wins, can we see the "Batman Beyond" design. I loved that design!

Actually, Darkseid was one of a whole slew of submissions I sent to Harley way back in the beginning. I'm still waiting of most of those to make their way to the polls... Then again, I think Kalibak was one of those submissions, too, and we all know how he fared.. ;) That group included folks like Parasite, Metallo, Barda, other high-cool-sketch-factor folks like them.
I still don't see why only one guy voted for Lex last week. I'd love to see his new JL outfit in action.... Then again, I didn't vote for him either, so I better stop complaining... :)
Oh, and Vincent- great thoguht about using the BB design for Freeze... That'd be really cool!!!! If not BB, then BTAS. He's more human in that design.

Great to hear I wasn't the only one who liked the "Batman Beyond" design of Mr. Freeze. I look it reaked of coolness (no pun intended!).

Poor, poor Cosgrove, sitting there with no votes. Well I fixed that. :)
This week we have some, um, interesting picks. Heh. It’s nifty to see that two of my suggestions made it to the poll. And I didn't vote for either of them. :D Something tells me that Joker will probably walk away with this one in the end.
And Bird_Boy don't feel bad. This is the first time Joker's been in the poll since the first one. Actually you might want to feel bad. It could be awhile before Robin returns. ;)

Dood, Freakzoid is NOT Obscure, and certainly not unwanted...
Billie has a number of obbsessive followers on this board (including a mod or two....) which is probably why she's on here.
Cosgrove isn't obscure per se...but even I was a bit confused till I saw the (freakazoid)
Keep in mind, that while the WF ppl have been dominate on these polls, a number of the ppl from Termite Terrace & WBC also vote, and it's nice to see some WB animated folk...specially the cool ones like Freakazoid! Freak Out!

We should wait until we have ten or eleven polls before we do that, so all ten slots on the poll can be filled - but that is a good ide a- something we could do every ten polls or so. Just to make things interesting! That would mean some of our favorite characters who got sooo close to winning could have their chance in the sun! Finally!

Cobra Commander all the way! We've already sort of got a sketch of the Joker, so I decided not to vote for him. And Freeze has never been one of my favorite characters. And right now I'm really, really into the new GI Joe comic and toy releases, so I want to Cobra Comander! Of course, he won't win, but if he did, I wonder which mask he'd be drawn with - the chrome face or the towel look. Hmmmmm......

Out of curiosity, are there plans to recycle previous poll-characters in future polls? There were a lot of interesting characters (including the ones I nominated! ^_~) who didn't get a vote, and I'd hate to think that they'll never get the chance to step up to the plate again.

I have to agree with the FastestManAlive the last two polls have just sucked. What's with all of this video game and other crap? Like what was that thing that won last week? I didn't even vote last week because I feel these polls are becoming way too silly. I didn't like when Marvel characters were let in and now it's just terrible. I would rather see Spiderman or Wolverine over some Gargoyle thing or the Tick. Where's Bart Simpson? I think this stuff should go back to comic based if not just DC based. Anyways I voted for the Joker because if he loses to this field... Well something's wrong here. I just don't get what the big fuss about this other crap is. Why not add Yogi the bear?

Hey, I've got a solution: Don't vote. It's that simple. You said you don't like the characters and you didn't vote last time, so don't vote this time. Send Harley your suggestions and ideas and hopefully she'll listen.
I personally don't like many of the choices this week, but fortunatelty, Mr. Freeze is on the list. I don't think the list sucks. Certainly, it's a change of pace though. But change is good. :)

Vince makes a great point. If you don't like the poll - email Harley or whoever about it. Don't whine. Send in some ideas for poll choices. They may not get used right away but they will get used. If you don't like any of the characters - fine! Whining and complaining isn't gonna change the current vote. Just sit out the current poll, let the other folks enjoy it, and wait for the next one.
And some people like the variety the polls have had recently.
And if people don't think Goliath isn't comic related - think again. They had a short lived comic book published by Marvel in the early/mid 1990s. Comic connection right there. As for any others...well..I really don't care.

Well, you don't really need to be a fan to know who they are. I think everyone is familiar with The Joker at least. Then again, everyone should also know who the Ninja Turtles are. Come on people, there are some good choices in this poll. Don't give up on it just because you didn't recognize a majority of the characters. Some of these characters would make a better sketch than you might think.

Don't count out GL Batman just yet. He only needs 5 votes to move to the lead, and there are more than 5 people who haven't voted. It seems like the choice that would give John the most creative freedom, and I can't begin to imagine how great it would look. The less we know about a sketch, the more amazing it will look when we finally see it. But if he ends up not winning I'll still be curious, so:

Yeah vote for Freakazoid and end the bat-madness that has run rampant on the poll the tlast couple of weeks.
Another suggestion for the polls, why don't we have theme weeks, where polls are based on different groupins, like 80s flashback week, it could include GI Joe, TMNT, He-Man, etc. Marvel/DC characters only weeks, and so on. So characters that would normally have a chance in the regular polls ::cough::TMNT::Cough: could actually win one.

Everybody vote for GL Batman so we can have a John Delaney sketch that will blow away that barely visible shadowy comic book cover. John's style will give the character a totally fresh new look-- I'm drooling already.
Go GL Batman!

Freakazoid, all colorful, would look awesome in B&W, dramitc pose..wait, this is Freakazoid...
Guess you ought to vote for Billie, cause Romey will ban you if you don't. =O

StirThe setting: A giant ice castle has been created in the middle of Gotham City, with Batman being out of town there's only one hero left - Freakazoid!
Freakazoid: Oh Lucy, I'm home!!
Mr. Freeze: I see that my competition has finally arrived. Welcome Freakazoid.
Freakazoid: Sorry took me a while to figure out where your secret lair was - so do you want to sing show tunes? You know what, you remind me of someone - did you sell Good Humor bars at one point of time?
Mr. Freeze: No, I asure you I am not an ice cream man. Only seek the victory that is rightfully mine, a victory that depends upon vanquishing you.
Freakazoid: What victory? (Blinks)
Mr. Freeze: You are the only obstacle left in my way to gainning true immortality - thru the hands of the great John Delaney. My other competitors have already been vanquished, as you can clearly see. (Freeze points to the wall where Joker, Cosgrove, Billie, the Batman/GL Hybrid, Mikey, Cobra Commander, Stirdor and Rogue have all been frozen to the wall - completely uncnscious). It's just you and I now.
Freakazoid: Cosgrove? Speak to me buddy, did the big, ugly ice cream man feed you to many good humor bars? Did he force you to eat to many fudge bars? Oh the humanity! (Falls on his knees, banging his head on the ground)
Mr. Freeze: It is over. (Freeze lifts up his freeze gun and fires at Freakazoid, encompassing all but his head in a block of ice).
Freakazoid: GEEZ! What'd you go and do that for? Would you turn up the heat, it's freezing in here. Waitaminute - are you related to Captain Cold? Or maybe that Ice chick? Or what about Jack Frost?
Mr. Freeze: Shut up! Your endless ranting has begun to annoy me. (Turns toward monitor screen) Listen to me people of the Delaney poll, vote for me as victor of Poll #8 or risk never seeing the red pajama clad man again.
(As Freeze ends the transmission the pleas of a potty break and screams of HUGBEES!! can be heard in the background).
So remember, if you want to see Freakazoid again - vote for Mr. Freeze.

The setting: The planet of Apokolips - the throne room of Darkseid. Desaad comes running into the room, flinging the door wide open.
Desaad: Master, you have an urgent message.
Darkseid: You dare! Can you not see I am in the middle of a game of Parcheesi? I must crush my son like the insignificant spec that he is!
Kalibak: But father, I have two pieces in all ready. You only have one.
Darkseid: Shut up son. Did you not say that you found this dispicable game on earth.
Kalibak: Yes the earth man Jimmy Olsen forced...er...showed me how to play slightly before I beat him to a bloody pull.
Darkseid: You did no such thing, not only did he beat you in battle but you probably lost at this forsaken game also.
(Kalibak begins to sob)
Darkseid: (muttering) Orion would never cry
(As Darkseid comes to the screen he sees the blue face of one Mr. Freeze filling the screen)
Mr. Freeze: Darkseid, I have come to offer you a deal. I shall make the earth your frozen paradise if you help me.
Darkseid: I do not need your help to conquer that speck, but your offer intrigues me - continue.
Mr. Freeze: I need your help in conquering a poll - I've heard that you were victorious at this.
Darkseid: I am victorious at everything I do. You speak of the Delaney poll. I shall help, but on one condition - you must destroy my son, Kalibak.
Kalibak: But father....I can win I tell you..I can
Darkseid: Shut up son. (Pulling closer to the screen) He annoys me like no other. What is that blue thing behind you.
Mr. Freeze: Just an annoyance, much like your son. I agree to your terms.
Freakazoid: Are we there yet? Oh, who's the cute guy with the face of Mt. Rushmore. Are you making a date?
Mr. Freeze glances behind him and stares at the blue figure, still trapped in a glacier of ice
Mr. Freeze: How many times must I tell you to shut up! Not matter how many times you ask I will not take you to the McDonalds fun world!
Freakazoid: Does somebody need a hug?
Mr. Freeze: (Turning back to the screen) I don't suppose you would care to make a trade?
Darkseid: (smiling) Prepare to win my new found son and do not worry the time will come. Warn the earthlings that unless you win, they shall suffer a fate far worse than another ice age. The combined powers of your blue freak and my pathetic son!

But it's missing that John Delaney greatness we've come to expect from all sketches. Besides, he's not even using the ring in the pic. It was nice of you to go to the trouble to post that cover though, and I do appreciate it, but you can't deny the fact that John's sketch would put that GL Batman to shame.

I went with Mr. Freeze... and really hope it's the original B:TAS Freeze, not the TNBA variety- wasn't crazy about that design.
The original was great, though. Or, maybe John might like to give us his own design... something along the "JL" lines...

Kalibak sits at Darkseid's desk. He clicks into John Delaney's Sketch of the Week #8. He scrolls to the bottom of page 4.
Kalibak: "Jokey joke posts? This is very bad for Lord Darkseid. He would not want Earthlings disrespecting him in such a manner. This one doesn't even make sense. But what would father do in this situation?"
Earth, downtown Gotham, the next evening. Darkseid and his army are destroying the city.
Darkseid: "YOU DARE MOCK ME! I WAS WILLING TO SPARE THE FATE OF THE HUMAN RACE, BUT THAT IS A CHOICE I CAN MAKE ONLY SO MANY TIMES ..."
Darkseid shoots lasers at a building and it explodes in a fiery blaze. Walls of smoke tower over the burning wreckage. One wall suddenly parts and gives way to a green streak through the sky. John Stewart, the Green Lantern, flies in and fires lantern beams at Darkseid. Darkseid deflects the lantern beams with his laser vision. He spots a woman hanging from the window of a burning building and shoots lasers directly above her so that she begins to plummet downwards. Green Lantern swoops down and catches her. While his guard is down, Darkseid sears him with his laser vision from behind until he falls, burned and broken.
Darkseid: "What a complete failure."
Apokolips soldier: "He never stood a chance, my Lord."
Darkseid stares straight ahead, frozen in place.
Apokolips soldier: "My Lord. (waves hand in front of Darkseid's face) My Lord? (snaps his fingers)"
Darkseid: "(snaps his head up) These days, it seems everyone thinks he's a superhero."
Back in Apokolips, Kalibak is wearing robotic gloves and is watching the Darkseid-vision screen as he guides the Darkseid robot's every move. He speaks into a microphone.
Kalibak: "(as Darkseid) Everybody wants to get into the act."
A large button next to Kalibak begins to sound "BREEP BREEP BREEP". Kalibak kicks the button and breaks a hole into the side of the console, causing a small explosion.
Kalibak: "Darkseid Central."
Granny Goodness: "(over the speaker phone) How are you holding up, Kalibak?"
A small gremlin creeps into Kalibak's lair.
Kalibak: "I've got my hands full, Granny. But these robots have convinced everyone that father is still around and will not tolerate uncharacteristic jokes at his expense."
Granny Goodness: "I'm so worried dear. Still no word from Lord Darkseid?"
Kalibak: "No, and it's been only two weeks since his pod left."
Kalibak holds his arms up as Darkseid picks up a car.
Kalibak: "I don't know how long I can keep this up."
Kalibak throws the car. The gremlin makes a grab at Kalibak's bowl of gruel.
Kalibak: "Hey!"
Kalibak wraps his hands around the bowl and engages the gremlin in a contest of tug-of-war with his gruel. Instantaneously, Darkseid wraps his hands around the throat of one of his Apokolips soldiers. Another soldier watches intently.
Darkseid: "Put an end to this or I will eat you!"
Apokolips soldier: "My Lord? You want us to retreat?"
Kalibak holds up the bowl of gruel triumphantly.
Kalibak: "YES!"
Apokolips soldier: "Stop the invasion! Lord Darkseid has commanded a retreat!"
Kalibak: "Huh?"
Suddenly, Darkseid takes off. Kalibak tries to bring him down, but it is beyond his control. Kalibak waves his arm. Darkseid doesn't respond as he flees the scene.
Kalibak: "(sigh) This could be a trifle troublesome."
Darkseid interweaves through the massive buildings of Gotham. A boom tube opens up in the sky above. Kalibak shoots out on a rocket-powered flying scooter. He sails down after Darkseid and sticks close to him as he maneuvers around the ominous cityscape. Darkseid shoots lasers from his eyes over his shoulder and hits Kalibak's scooter. Kalibak bails out and jumps onto Darkseid's back. Darkseid rotates his head 360 degrees. His eyes start to glow. Kalibak's eyes dart up and close shut as he braces himself. The two of them crash into a building and slide across a majestic office. Kalibak stands up over the now still Darkseid robot and finds himself face to face with Bruce Wayne.
Bruce Wayne: "Kalibak. I should have suspected you were behind this."
Kalibak: "I don't know what you're talking about, Mr.--"
Bruce Wayne: "Wayne. Bruce Wayne."
Kalibak: "I know who you are. What are you trying to pull here?"
Bruce Wayne: "I was about to ask you the same thing. You see, I've known for some time now that this isn't the genuine article. (kicks robot)"
Kalibak: "Is that right?"
Bruce Wayne: "I make it my business to know the habits of my enemies. (pushes buttons on remote control) I can spot a fake a mile away. (Darkseid stands up) Besides, Superman did this exact thing a few years ago. It was a simple matter to scramble this robot's circuitry and confirm my suspicions. Darkseid is missing. (pushes button and robot falls)"
Kalibak: "No he's not. He's just been kind of busy lately."
Bruce Wayne: "It's more than that. I think he froze himself and had himself shot into space in hopes of returning to a future where he would be assured victory against a John Delaney poll lineup of second-rate characters. Only to miss his own sketch."
Kalibak frowns and picks up the robot.
Bruce Wayne: "Admit it, child. You can keep up this charade only so long."
Kalibak: "You'd be surprised at what I can do."
Kalibak tries to surprise Bruce by running at him and trying to grab the remote control out of his hand, but trips and hits his head against the edge of the desk. Unsuccessfully trying to hide his tears, he jumps out the window. Bruce slips into an adjacent room, where the Green Lantern lies on a small cot, barely conscious.
Green Lantern: "Is he gone?"
Bruce Wayne: "Yes. For now. But don't try to get up."
Green Lantern: "My ring ..."
Green Lantern takes off his ring and puts it in Bruce's palm.
Green Lantern: "Give it to Batman."

J'onn glared intently at the monitor screen, not believing what had just come to pass. For a little over an hour Gotham had been ravaged by Darkseids troops leaving no building unscathed. J'onn had seen John Stewart fall at the hands of Darkseid and began to wonder - could Green Lantern need help or was this just the pilot episode for a new Green Lantern Animated Series? J'onn searched the tower and realized no script had been delivered - and no Justice League episode could be complete without him.
As J'onn scanned Gotham he found the brain patterns of John Stewart and honed in, listing to the conversation at hand.
GL: Give it to Batman
Bruce Wayne: I had hoped you would say that. (Bruce Wayne than proceeds to kick and beat John - throwing him into the depths of unconsciousness)
J'onn then knew something was out of place, a further scanning of the office revealed that Bruce was not in fact who he said he was - instead revealing the large form of one Matt Hagen, Clayface.
Clayface: With this ring I can finally get my life back! No studio could possibly resist the selling power of a man with a ring!
****************************************************
Mr. Freeze watched the events unfold in front of him. This was not good. It appeared the deal he had made with Darkseid was in fact a robot. His once certain victory seemed unsure now - at least one problem had been taken care of, Batman would never get the ring John Stewart had tried to pass along, at least not until after this Friday.
Mr. Freeze: So it seems that the competition must go on. Who many times must I watch my opponents fall before they finally realize that I am a heavy weight villain and not just a former Terminator?
Freakazoid: Hey Mr. Good Humor man! Can I have a choco-fudge twist cone?
Mr. Freeze: For the last time, I am not an ice cream man! You are by far the most irritating hero I have ever met. Do you know what it feels like to never feel the warm breeze cross your face on a bright summer day? Or to never feel the sand beneath your toes at a beach party? You can not even begin to imagine the pain I have suffered through - and yet I survive, in hopes of one day winning the John Delaney poll.
Freakazoid: Well, I don't know how either of those feels but do you know how it feels to be trapped in a large block of ice? It's really cold.
Mr. Freeze: Yes! I can only exist in a sub-zero environment. That is why I can't do those things!
Freakazoid: Oh....can I watch tv?
Mr. Freeze: No, this is a screen that allows me to see all things and control the outcome of the John Delaney poll.
Freakazoid: I hear the SI Swimsuit video is on tonight? (smiling)
Mr. Freeze: I can not allow myself that luxury right now. No, I must be victorious!
Freakazoid: Oh, the cover is hot tho. So....did you get a lot of dates in school?
Mr. Freeze: I was a scientist - I had no time for dates!
Freakazoid: So, in other words no. So you were a nerd then?
Mr. Freeze: I was not a nerd - I did not have time for dating!
Freakazoid: Were you always a nerd then?
Mr. Freeze: (turns around and freezes Freakazoids entire form) Why me? (hangs his head in shame) The sacrifices I make for victory.
Vote for Mr. Freeze, the GL/Batman hybrid no longer exists :D

You think today Cobra still wouldn't be considered an "unknown" character, given the current resurgance and popularity of GIJoe. I always assumed these characters were well known and extremely popular.
And wow...this poll has taken off. It's already at 121, a number it usually doesn't reach until the final hour on Friday.

Hold up a second here, I'm sorry that you seem to be getting offended by my posts. I didn't realize that the adertizing campaign was run only through you. I figured "this is a poll, I would like to see Mr. Freeze win - maybe I can persuade a couple of votes to his favor." Seeing as how I do live in America I figured my right to make up a post that could possibly help Mr. Freeze was protected. If you choose to become offended by these posts, I'm sorry, I didn't think that I had said anything that would offend you - heck, I was hoping you might even get a chuckle out of the Darkseid one seeing as how it was your previous posts that influenced the weak Kalibak thing and Darkseids reaction to Kalibak. The second one was done to see what you would have as a reply, almost as a debate for example. I know that some people have found my posts funny also and I hope you realize that it was not done to discredit your Darkseid posts (which I found funny also). and now after last week's chatter--- I really wonder what the heck a Harley Quinn/MIB thing would look like--
'Alpha has finally met his match. The only Agent who can stop him--- and with a pop gun?? Agent H.Q.'
Harley Quinn-- reason 176 for not being a MIB: She just can't bring herself to lose the red in her black and red wardrobe.
lol
I've never read any of the comics--- we totally lack comic book shops here (it's been deemed Hell here). Why WOULD batman need the GL ring and powers?? He's BATMAN! C'mon! He's got all those bat weapons and bat cars and bat cookies! He's gotta be able to stop things and not worry about a failed, bat-brained plan (ugh here we go again with the bat-words).
it jut seems weird.
Oh and speaking of comic books--- anywhere I can go to get a list of all the Harley Quinn comics and photos of the covers? I got up to like 13 or 14 and then 1. My friends stopped asking if I would like to go to the mall and then 2. when we finally did go--- the Keep had closed and moved to some other location. I'm SO BEHIND on my HQ comics and I need to know what to hunt off of ebay.

I'm voting for Freeze because I would like to see him in his BB suit. That suit is one of the best costumes I've seen of him ever since he's been created! (Yes, I love it that much) :D
If Freeze wins, John, please do his BB costume, or if you want to make both sides happy, you can make a cross between the BB costume and the BTAS/TNBA costume with the JL highlights to make it even better!
Delia97, you can go here (http://www.milehighcomics.com) to get the covers. Just go to 'internet store' and then type in harley quinn in the search box, then choose the harley quinn comic book you want, then the covers are all there. It's a real good site, and it's also a good comic shop if you want to get some back-issue comics. Hope that helps.

-Joe! I appreciate your admiration for my Darkseid posts, but I don't think they should become a common poll fabrication every time someone sees a character they like. That's why I tried not to overdo mine. I'm not about to turn these threads into rapid-fire fanfic campaign debates. The spotlight deservedly belongs on Mr. Delaney. And I'm sorry, but I didn't like how you were using the ideas I spent so long trying to perfect. I put a great deal of thought into my posts because I don't want to cheapen them for all the members who enjoyed them (thanks again for the positive feedback). Plus, we mustn't forget that a portion of the members don't wish to see so much character plugging. Sorry if my view is out of place. I guess this sounds pretty dumb after Vincent's excellent point above. I just can't help treating these posts like my babies.

Great post Terminatah! They just keep getting better and better.
On the subject of jjwspider's posts, I don't think the major problem was that he's making similar posts, but that he's continuing Terminatah's story without his permission. If I spent time developing a story I wouldn't want someone to come in and continue it for me. If you want to come up with your own posts that's fine, but to take what someone else did and build off it without asking just isn't right.
By the way, how about for a little change of pace, instead of having John sketch the character with most votes he sketches the character with exactly 13 votes? (X-Men characters not included) I really think that's the best way to decide the winner.

Now hold on a second. The only post I even continued was the last one, mainly because I was treating it as a continuing story - this being as he refrenced my posts in his last one. Saying that I continued his posts before this is absurb - much like saying that the writer of X-men can not refrence Spider-Man or even use someone in the Marvel Universe because it is also featured in the Spider-Man Universe. I created a script that was between Mr. Freeze and Freakazoid and then between Mr. Freeze and Darkseid, with Freeze looking for some assistance in his quest to win this poll. Darkseid is a character that is owned by DC Comics and, contrary to popular belief, is not the sole possesion of the Terminatah. This means that if I choose to use Darkseid as a character in a script that features Mr. Freeze I am allowed to do so. Like Randy H and John Delaney said - it's all well and good for everyone to be allowed to take and try to advertize their favorite character for votes.

-Joe!
I never said you made it a habit to continue his posts; I was in fact referring to only your last post. Terminatah didn't invent the concept of character dialogues and you are entitled to make all the posts involving Darkseid you want; however, it's clearly obvious you took his idea (the Darkseid/Kalibak relationship, a character on a quest to be sketched by Delaney, etc) and changed the message to contradict what he was trying to say. You built off his creativity to hock a character he showed no interest in, and then you made an effort to detract votes from his character. You continued his story without his permission and that's just wrong, whether you do it often or just once. And I think he should have the right to an opinion on the matter without everyone telling him to lighten up.
Now let's get back to the good fun that is The John Delaney poll. And remember to vote for GL BATMAN!" :yakko:
Randy H

Dark Knight, you keep referring to Darkseid, Kalibak, and their relationship as being "his (Terminatah's) story", and "his creativity". However, there is only one guy who can truely claim those things as "his", and that's Jack Kirby.
Did Terminatah ask Jack Kirby if he could write a Darkseid/Kalibak story? No. Kirby's gone. Until Terminatah shows such a letter, I don't think you can make the case that jjwspider has to "ask permission" of Terminatah.
And didn't Terminatah say his Darkseid posts were over now that Darkseid has won? Yet, hmm... Now they're back... Promoting a character Terminatah wants to win the poll. Nothing wrong with that, except that he is at the same time criticizing other people for doing it.
Terminatah hs said that people don't want the boards crowded with dialogue posts and campaigning, yet he's doing it all he wants.
Terminatah never got angry with my "Darkseid Ad Council" thing, but it helped his cause. The big thing is that Terminatah wants GL/Bats, and jjwspider wants Mr. Freeze.
Like John said, the idea here is fun, people. Lets have some!
Later,
Randy H

I vote that this particular thread has been exhausted. Both parties have had their say, both have made fine arguments, and both are funny as all get-out. Anything more said on who did what or who said what is just going to become a spitting match.
In my humble opinion both posters kind of misunderstood the intent of one anothers postings and it's become a thang.
The best part of these forums is the exchange of ideas and opinions and though we may not always agree with one another let's not stop the process.
Unless it's lying, man I hate lying.

All right, I'm not a mod at this board, but this is offensive and embarrassing. For everyone. So just drop it.
John Delaney is adding to his workload by giving us these sketches, and all you can do is kick and scratch and bite at each other? And worse, he has to be the one to tell you to stop it?
This cannot happen again. It won't happen again. Because much as I love Terminatah's stories, and much as I respect jjwspider's picking up on the act, I would prefer to see this kind of thing outlawed than to see this kind of garbage crop uup again.
I say nothing about who's right or who's wrong here. I just see a lot of graceless behavior. John came here and gave us his art because he liked these boards and people on them. Don't make him revise his opinion.
We will find a way to prevent this kind of thing again. One way or another.

Delia97, you can go here (http://www.milehighcomics.com) to get the covers. Just go to 'internet store' and then type in harley quinn in the search box, then choose the harley quinn comic book you want, then the covers are all there. I coted for Freeze, even thought Joker has considered. Do you think it's fair for some people to wait until the last day and chose which of the two characters battling it out that they should vote for? Think of it, if I had voted on Monday, I may have voted for Joker...but now that I think he doesn't stand a chance, I chose Freeze...People who wait aren't going to vote for the character they most want to see...instead, they'll vote for the character they most want to win out of the two or three in the lead!
Does this seem fair to you guys...?

Well......I've done the impulse vote before...sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. Generally I'll go with my gut if ONE character really sticks out....like Freakazoid this time around. On other polls...when I don't have a particular favorite..I tend to wait...and see what develops...

To tell you the truth DisneyBoy, when I first saw the poll, I usually skim down the poll to see the characters that are participating, and I missed about 4 of those charcters, but I didn't notice that then. The first thing that popped in my head was Joker. That was who I was gonna vote for, but I wanted to wait until Friday, to see how it goes out. But then, I saw you guys mention Freeze, which made me very confused. When I first read the poll, I didn't notice Freeze was there. So, it was a tie for me on who I should vote for, Freeze or Joker. And if one of them is one vote to losing, then I will vote for that character, whether it will be Joker or Freeze. So, I think it's kinda fair, since the voters will still vote for their character that they want to be drawn, even though they waited the last day. Whoa, that's a long explanation. Well, I'm out...C ya! :)
That's such a cute picture of Harley Quinn on your av, Harley!

I voted for Mr. Freeze not because I really wanted to see him, but more because I wanted either him of Joker to win. I should have voted Joker, and I think would have much preferred to see him in his newest design. I had to get that off my chest...
So all you people out there thinking " I want to vote for X, but X's so far behind..." kindly ignore the current standings and vote for who you want to see ... You never know how many other people might vote along with you if it seems the character they'd prefer to see is starting to catch up...!

Guys,
I've kind of kept quiet on this thing all week. I'll admit it. I was taken aback by the negative response to the poll.
My only attempt in this poll, was to perhaps try and pull in some of the other TZers. The one's who love the comedy-themed toons. And we almost had a few new members to our little community here. They're all good people, too. All the e-mails I received from them read along the lines of them almost participating in the thread, but backing off because of the cold response.
I'm pretty ashamed of the behavior in this week's thread and I'm halfway tempted to delete most of the posts here because they are very much not in the spirit of the poll.
If anyone's forgotten, John offered to do this because of the way our community interacts with each other. You know, not yelling, flaming and blasting each other for different opinions and views? This is supposed to be the place we all come to put our differences aside and have a good time.
If the thread is like this next week, we may have to change the way we run this poll. And I'd prefer not to mention any worst case scenarios, because I'm hoping we're better than that.
Also, if you need to yell at each other, please do it off the boards. It's not something that belongs here.

Alright, let's just drop the whole "French judge" thing, okay? The more people try to clean it up, the worse it may get. If you have something to say to each other about that -- like an apology or clarification -- how about you take to PMs and email?

It would be an interesting exercise in statistical analysis and game theory to see when (and whether) votes are "worth" more at certain stages. DisneyBoy points out that people have a tendency to wait to vote, believing that their vote will have more "weight" if it can swing a decision between 2 (or 3) frontrunners.
On the other hand, those "frontrunners" are established by people who vote early. If you vote early you have a much better chance of being able to push your candidate into the position of being a final contender.
I suspect it balances out. Those who feel strongly go ahead and vote, so as to give their candidate a solid foundation. On the other hand, those without a strong conviction (like I've felt the past few contests) wait until the end, so that we can maximize our vote by picking our favorite of the contenders.
So if I vote for Freakazoid or Mr. Freeze, it's not because I cynically traded away my preference for GL Batman, because none of the candidates excited me enough.
Anyway, that's my hypothesis.

I know from my standpoint there have been weeks where I waited to vote, torn between to characters and other weeks where I voted right away (like when Aztek is in the poll). When there's a character I really want to see, like GL Batman, I try and vote early so that my vote may encourage others to do so. However, there comes a time when there's just no chance that your character will win, even with the extra boost you gave them in the beginning, and so you have to show your preference for one of the characters that are close to the lead, if not in the lead themselves. The only time I think I ever waited till the very end was in the poll where Spider-Man and Ivy tied, and that was just because I completely forgot about the poll till the last day.
Speaking of ties, there may be a chance we'll have another one this week. Poor John. I don't think he knew what he was getting into. :wakko:

Personally I initially joined these boards because I like Batman and his universe. I had no idea who Freakazoid was before this poll and now I only know what he looks like, so yes I would rather see Freeze or Joker before some character I know almost nothing about. If Freakazoid wins, I'm not going to have something against people who voted for him, it's just not who I would've picked. John does a great job no matter who wins.
BTW, while that has changed, originally the intent behind this poll was animated DC characters, leading to many Batman and Superman people in winning early polls. Remember, this poll used to be on Batman, Superman & Beyond.
Oh and....go Mr. Freeze! :D

Sorry Harley, Maxie and John and all the other 8000 people that came to this board. I dunno if there's room to list them all.
The polls will end in an hour so lets just sit back and stop making ourselves look stupider (is that even a word?).
I'm gonna go get a Coca-Cola. Anyone want one?
-Delia97
(Lets see how many cans of soda she can juggle. Oops! Who wants the one I dropped??) Let me apologize as well. This whole thing is my fault, and I guess I got out of hand after Delia's reaction. I got a little upset that another Batman character looked like it was going to win and that is just plain stupider(if Delia says it a word, it's a word LOL) I like Freeze as much as every Bat-fan out there, but I guess I wanted to see something different this time around. Let me extend the hand of friendship to Delia, and call off this whole arguement. We all win in the end, because we get to see another excellent sketch by the talented Mr. Delaney. That's all I have to say on the subject, so let's make sure this poll ends on a good note, and not let stupidity like that ever prevail again.

So right about the excellent drawings! I accept your hand and offer mine as well and I can't wait to see what the very cool Delaney comes up with this week.
Want a nice dropped coca-cola? It's only messy if you open it--- hehe.

(She opened the soda--- a very bad move.)

(She opened the soda--- a very bad move.) If you tap on the top of the can a couple of time with 2 fingers and wait a second, it will null that shaken up'edness(is that a word?) of the soda inside, but still be careful and open away from your face. :p

What is this magic?
lol---
I've seen at a Drama One Act Festival some time ago an amazing thing where a kid took 2 cans, shook the crud out of one and held the other one and then he opened the one he didn't shake and it went everywhere and the one he was shaking was opened and didn't even bubble. they were untampered cans of soda--- coca cola, and one was marked so he couldnt pull a switch.
FIGURES AGAIN, ill miss the poll as it closes. I gotta go pick up someone right now (4:40) and ill miss the 5:00 roll around.

OK anyone who hasn't voted yet, now's your time. Freakazoid is only down by 2 votes, so if you haven't done so yet vote now! Polls close a 5:00pm EST, that's 1700 hours for you military types out there.

If I yelled at people for being nasty in public, it would churlish if I didn't praise them for being classy.
Delia97 and MDawg957: Thank you for those gracious apologies and gestures of forgiveness to each other and others on the board. One reason we have such a great community is because even when our members screw up, they go out of their way to make it right again. You're reminded us of that again. Thanks, guys! :)

Heh heh... Just voted for Freeze. Hope no on else votes for Freakazoid which will make Freeze lose. I really want Freeze to come put and win. If it's a tie, I'll be happy since we got 2 drawings (Sorry John...) :p
If Freeze does win, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE draw his Batman Beyond costume. It's just so awesome!

As much as I'd like to see him in his "Batman Beyond" design, I'll be just as glad at whatever John decides. He's taking time to do this for us and I appreciate it. I'll be happy with whatever we get.

What just happened? Why did Freakazoid get votes taken away from him? He had won 36 to 35 and then all the sudden it changed back.

Something screwy happened.
What? What happened? Mr. Freeze won. Yes! At the last minute, three people took away their votes and Freeze won. Can be change their votes? Is that even possible?

I smell shenanigans! As forum admin, I'm able to see who voted for what. Give me a minute and I'll list the results.

Yeah, one minute it was 35 to 34, the next, Freeze won. That was strange...

Not my board, but I think it's a good idea to close this right now. Too many people were watching, and something happened.
Something like this happened a poll or two ago, when a phantom vote disappeared. It was off the loser's poll, so it didn't make a difference, but this one saw 4 votes vanish after the poll closed, and it tipped the victory.
Let's not get into a tizzy about this, so to keep tempers from exploding, I'm closing the thread.

Well, not only was that a close one, but we ran into a quirk in the poll software! Oy vey!
The poll closing feature was opened a few minutes early. It opened with all the current data at the time. When we went to hit submit, it went and edited the poll to reflect that old info. That's the reason for the phantom votes. Now we know and knowing is half the battle. ;)
So, without further ado, I bring you this week's champ, Freakazoid!
P.S. Thanks for the compliments on the avatar. Drew 'em meself. ;-)
