Welcome to This Week in Comics for December 19,2007 - December 27, 2007!

This is the place to discuss the comics you've bought this week, whether it be a brand new title or old back-issues. We also welcome and encourage talk about comics in general - news you've read on comic news sites, the state of the industry in general, upcoming issues you're excited about, etc. All we ask is that you please use spoiler brackets in the event that your comments get too detailed concerning a particular storyline. This way the book won't be ruined for anyone who hasn't read it yet.

For a list of the new items shipping this week, please consult Diamond Comics' Shipping List (http://previews.diamondcomics.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=6&s=430&ai=64749).

My enjoyment of the new series of "What If's" continues!! This week, my Pick of the Week takes us back to Marvel's Civil War, but this time, with a twist!!! What If: Civil War sounds like a great concept for a "What If" story, and who knows?!? Maybe we'll get a better ending to it all this time. :)

Trying to get caught up on comics, so I'll be giving my thoughts on the past 4 months or so as I read through them.

The All-New Atom #14: Another genius issue from this book. Jetpack Hitler is the most hilarious awful thing ever, complete with accompanying "Reality has jumped the shark" quip.

Silver Surfer: Requiem #4: A decent miniseries, but it ultimately wasn't all that great, imho. JMS has done much better work in the past. Ultimately, I felt it was paced too slowly, which isn't often a complaint I have.

G.I. Joe: Special Missions: ...The Enemy... : A fairly good one shot. Maybe below some of the other GI Joe one shots, but DDP keeps putting out quality products with this brand, so I don't think anyone is complaining. I liked the split story telling style used here.

more to come as I read. I still have 110 books left to read, and I didn't even pick up this week's new books yet.

For those of you who are fans of Ennis' Punisher:

Newsarama just interviewed Alex Alonso on Ennis' departure from the Punisher book. (http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=140484)

Alonso confirms that the title will continue after Ennis leaves, but he's not spilling the beans on who the new writer will be. One name that's being tossed around: Jason Aaron! Hell yeah, I'd LOVE to see him take over the book. He's just about the only replacement I can live with...

Just a quick reminder: due to the Christmas and New Year's holidays this year, New Comic Book Day will be FRIDAY for the next 2 weeks running (meaning December 28, 2007 and January 4, 2008).

Look for the new This Week in Comics thread this Friday.

This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Continuing with my catch-up game:

World War Hulk: X-Men #3: A fun finale, but an ultimately disappointing conclusion. This was a fun miniseries, but in the end I think it suffered from being a completely pointless tie-in that offered no real substance.
