Bought this game on a whim a while ago because I was intrigued by the “choose your own adventure” game play described in the reviews.

**WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!***

The game started off great. The initial scene where you cover up the murder as Lucas and then investigate it as Carla and Tyler is really intense. I really liked all the characters (so much that sometimes it was hard pitting them against each other) and I couldn’t wait to see how their story ended. It really made me feel like my decisions had an impact on the story.

It’s too bad that the cool, gritty, and realistic story turns into a bizarre sci-fi mess toward the end (and you spend most of the last half of the game playing a twisted game of Simon). The game was started off with such a brilliantly written story that I was very shocked and disappointed when it went all “Matrix” at the end. And I was a bit ticked off when I realized that both endings are pretty much the same and that most of the big decisions (like choosing weather or not Tyler should move to Florida with his girlfriend) have no real effect on the story. And I don’t know why they bothered with multiple endings because they’re both the same anyway.

So has anyone else played this thing? What did you think about it?

I've played it. I had the exact same experience as you. Enjoyed it during the beginning but by the time I reached the ending, I utterly despised the game. I think the creators just didn't know what they wanted to do in the end and just said "Let's wing it". It doesn't help that the game has some seriously awful stealth sequences.

I enjoyed it. I didn't have that much of a problem with the ending, except that the final romance just seemed to appear out of the blue. You get a man and a woman together they just fall in love, I guess, by the logic of this game. My other problem with it was that it was too reliant on its rythm mechanic for all of its action scenes, which got very old.

I picked it up awhile back, haven't had time to get deep into it so I'm avoiding the spoilers above. But so far it's pretty nice. I'm in the bookstore and I missed what clues the old man gave me, so I'm going to have to go look that up.

I was extremely disappointed with this game. When i first heart about it and saw movies about it, I was really excited. The fact you can choose your own path and do things however you want sounded great, but in the end it turns out it really doesn't matter aside from how many stress points you get. Like in the beginning, you can try to hide your evidence and stuff, but no matter if you do or don't you always get caught murdering the guy later on in the game by the police. Also some of the decisions are pointless, like in the end when you can choose to let Tyler go with his girlfriend and leave town or stick around... no matter what you choose you never see Tyler again. This was probably due to time budgets or something, maybe they were running out of time designing the game, I don't know.

It killed me because I LOVED the beginning of the game so much that I was able to look past the horrible controls and other serious flaws because the story and atmosphere were amazing (and replaying the chapters was fun, too). I still can't believe how quickly this game went from "gritty realistic crime drama" to "confusing sci-fi mindf*%#k").

That really got to me. Tyler was my favorite character and I was pissed when I realized that having Tyler leave his girlfriend and stay in New York didn't keep him in the game! And that other big decisions (like saving Marcus and rescuing the little kid from the river) also had no real impact on the story. And the less said about that left field romance the better....

The matrix scene was a big WTF.

I thought this was a great game, and probably the best throwback to old school adventure games that has come out in the past five years. I don't know why people keep complaining about the twist the story takes, as it's obvious the path that it's going down was a sci-fi/horror one. I will agree though that some of the QTE's were somewhat annoying(mostly the alternate right and left trigger ones).

Its not the sci-fi itself that bugged me since there aren't many "realistic" explanations for Lucas to kill that guy (mental illness is one; but that would make for a crappy and depressing game). Its just that the tone changed so suddenly that is was really jarring.

See it didn't really bother me as with all the hallucinations, as well as him surviving in the amusement park,it was fairly obvious their was more to him then meets the eye. I could see your point if it happened early on like right after he killed the guy in the restaurant.
