Homer wakes up one morning only to find himself outdoors and covered with snow. With no recollection of what happened the night before, aside from a lingering hangover, Homer makes his way home only to find his entire family missing. Hopelessly confused, Homer makes his way to Moe’s bar, where Moe reveals that Homer drank a “Forget-Me-Shot” the night before – a drink is so potent, it wipes out a the last 24 hours of one’s memory. When Wiggum informs Homer of a domestic disturbance at his house the night before, Homer begins to worry that he may have done something awful. As he probes his cloudy memory to unravel the mystery, Homer turns to Professor Frink, who hooks him up to a device that allows him to explore his memories, and he interacts with his Memory Family to piece together the night’s events.

This is the first new episode of "The Simpsons" I've watched since GABF19 "Milhouse of Sand and Fog" in Season 17. I was worried that it'd be just as mediocre as the show was back then, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of those format-bending episodes that I always enjoy watching, and a goodly amount of the humor connected in the way it was intended. Nothing felt drawn out, even the scenes that obviously were meant to pad out the episode's running time (the Ice Age parody at the beginning, Homer's life flashing before his eyes, etc.), and I quite enjoyed Homer's characterization - a man worried about his actions and terrified at the notion that he may have done something horrible without knowing. I like it when Homer is good at heart, and this episode proved to me that he still can be. And yeah, the ending was nothing I haven't seen before, but the humor was strong enough to redeem it.
I'm beginning to think I should start watching new episodes of "The Simpsons" on a regular basis again. I'm actually a little bummed out now that I'll have to wait for the Season 17 and 18 DVDs to catch up on what I've missed.

A decent episode and one of the better ones so far this season. A good premise that comes around full circle by the end (although yet another cheap swipe at the Irish :mad:) but the montage of Homer's life was hilarious :D. And the scenes when Homer is flying through his memories was nicely done. Also good to see Duffman again, (it's always good to see Duffman). :)
This was an excellent episode, I really enjoyed it. Can't remember last time I really enjoyed a Simpsons episode this much. loved the opening gag as well.

That was fantastic. Every time they do episodes like this, they're always so good. I wish they would bend the format a bit more often.

Very good episode of the Simpsons.
I give it a 4/5.

While there was a few good laughs in the episode (especially when Homer has his mind trip), four things kinda ruined it for me:
1. The lack of the family in Act 1;
2. The fact that Marge's black eye was obviously accidental, and that the whole "family dispute" thing was just a coincidence;
3. The It's a Wonderful Life parody (do we really need yet another parody of a highly overrated film that is only big because of the fact that it played on almost every network around Xmas time when it was in the public domain?);
4. The cop out of having Homer being saved by a moon bounce.

Definitely a step above the usual new Simpsons episode in that it clearly had a lot of thought put into it. However, in terms of overall effectiveness I still prefer "I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" and the Sideshow Bob one, from this season. I guess the problem is that it aimed high but didn't quite make it. It was just too obvious that it would be a misunderstanding. I'm not sure they could have possibly gotten us to believe that Homer abused Marge while also making us laugh, but I still sense they could've done better. I saw the alternate meaning of Duffman's "I'm giving it to your wife! She'll be sore in the morning!" coming from a mile away.
Does anyone know if there are any more completed episodes after this one? Because the "The End?" text got me wondering...

Spluh? Read the title again. The only relation between that film and this episode is that someone wants to kill themselves via a bridge.
And It's A Wonderful Life is one of the greatest films ever, THAT'S why it's popular. Anyone who doesn't get it must have a perfect life or something.

Yes, I agree with that. This was a good plot, but the show's so old, it can't surprise us anymore. Of COURSE Marge didn't cheat, because she'd never do that.
I doubt they'd be able to fully animate "The End....?" from the time they knew the strike was coming until now.

Jan 6th there is an episode
I gotta admit - I was dissapointed by the time this episode wrapped up. Something about it just didn't seem 'as good' as I thought it would be. But then, I watched it again, and it settled with me. This is the best episode of season 19, no doubt (at least so far) but it's not the 'A+' episode I was praying for. I kind of resented how the episode kept trying to be funny in moments where they really should have held off of that (Homer's suicide, for instance, shouldn't have been accompanied by jokes).

Really great non-liniar storytelling here. I really liked the Ice Age Scratt Cameo (much better than the Family Guy one, which seemed forced and tacked on for marketting purposes).
Anyway, The only thing I truely disliked was the Cell Phone commercial joke that ran on too long. To me, that ended after the "4 free Downloads" line.
But I kinda liked that random Youtube joke (which totally segwayed into KOTH's B plot). And other than the fact the ending seemed very weak, and the set up was much much stronger than the end result, a very good episode. This has been a real uneven season so far. A few good ones, a few bad one... but still improving just a little.

First, when I said the "It's a Wonderful Life" parody, I wasn't referring to the episode altogether, I was referring to just the bridge scene.
Second, two reasons why a person can hate It's a Wonderful Life:
1. It takes forever just to set up the reason why Clarence is being set down to help George Bailey;
2. The whole "never been born" bit from the film has been done to death, with it reaching the point where it becomes rather annoying (even when it comes to the original film).

I missed it last night because I had to work and I really wanted to see it, luckily I found that fox on demand had it online.
I thought the episode would be a little more serious than it was by how it was explained in the promo card, but I still liked how it was handled. It was a different kind of story that made it unique from the past episodes. I thought it was really neat watching Homer grow up in that one short skit as he saw his life flashing before his eyes, and his hair disappearing.
one of the best season 19 episodes, right up there with I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Great episode. Has to be the best Simpson christmas episode ever. My favorite part was "Picture a day for 39 years" (based on "Noah takes a photo of himself everyday for 6 years" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B26asyGKDo)). So far this season has been pretty good(except for that CBG episode). Here hoping they keep them coming on 2008.

I liked the episode....Obviously,I knew that Homer wouldn't really have done anything bad to Marge,and that Marge wouldn't actually be having an affair with Duffman,but it was still interesting in that it turned out that the reason Homer wiped out his own memories was so that he'd be surprised about his party....and apparently,the reason Marge didn't tell Chief Wiggum the real reason for her black eye was because she didn't want him to know about the party,since she doesn't like his wife,Sarah....
I found a couple of Homer's lines really funny....
{after seeing Marge and Duffman together on the couch}...."It's the mother of my children,with the reason for my children"...
"If only these walls could talk....then I could charge people to see my amazing talking walls...."

Interesting episode for this time of season and avoiding any Christmas themes. I enjoyed the opening scene where Groundskeeper Willie got the acorn from the squirrel and I wonder that The Simpsons is starting to steal scenes from Family Guy. Also great flashback with Homer's life thanks to Youtube. Great conclusion for a puzzling Homer Simpson.

Nothing of too much consequence. The ep began with a look around winterized Springfield (Groundskeeper Willie attacking an Ice Age Squirrel look alike and then getting attacked by more squirrels, Lindsay Nagele cleaning her car off, blah blah) as Homer reawakens from being under some snow. Knowing he was drunk last night but not sure what happened, he returns home to find no one there and Santa's Little Helper growling at him. He then goes to Moe as Moe explains his forget me not drink with the video. You probably saw the rest of it.

Okay this one I really have to disagree with. They shovel the Family down in our throat so much that I'm glad there is actually an act that didn't need to go by without much Marge, Bart or Lisa scenes. Really I know it's the Simpsons but with 400+ episodes you really don't need them crammed down every other scene so much. In fact I felt the kids helping in the dream world was kind of an excuse to have them in the episode in a sense so guess we just have conflicting views on overused characters and all.

Starting? They've been doing it since at least "Homer The Moe'. This would only be one those stoen jokes (though I feel this one is only partially stolen in a sense since FG and Simpsons did do different takes with it).
Okay, I'll give this credit for being a sort of interesting look at the Homer/Marge relationship. The idea of Marge actually cheating on Homer involving some domestic dispute and the family not being around is actually something they haven't really tried before (well at least on the "look at this black eye but my husband didn't do that" sort of thing anyway) so it should get credit for that. As well as at least finding a way to tie all the loose ends together (though not really too tightly writtened. I mean Duffman's phrasing about what he said to Marge and Homer's reasoning for having the bounce pad on the pool for the party were pretty contrived even for the Simpsons) with how the story played out. And even though I never saw "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" but the title and butterflies make it too obvious a refrence to ignore and it ties into the plot decently. Plus there were some pretty good gags in this one (The scratish squirrel that Wiley took down, Lindseay Nagele cleaning her car, Moe trying to find a pose of his in the video that "looks" like him, Homer knowing that Flanders called him in for the domestic disturbance, The memoreis of the old clientel at Frink's house, the flashback scenes during the trip (a good way of doing flashbacks IMHO. Showing the clips but not having a long scene inserted of them just to fill for time), Homer, Bart and Lisa enjoying sledding together (thinking about it I am glad they at least try and add more family moments to these eps then they have in the past), Figiment Bart beating up 10 year old and 20 year old Homer, Homer's life flashing before his eyes and Lenny and Carl telling Homer what they think of him that he wouldn't remember. There wasn't anything that great that stood out about this episode, even if it was a sort of out there Simpsons (not to mention I didn't really like Cheif Wiggum hitting himself into the door since that was a joke taken sort of from American Dad, nor Patty and Selma being so meanspirtied in trying to off Homer. I'm sure it would never pass if Homer tried the same to them but it's suppose to be funny when Homer's the victim and blah blah). One of the better of the season though which is actually having more decent eps ever since that abnoration of a few weeks ago was played. I think you know which one I mean.

For the record, this wasn't a very direct parody of Eternal Sunshine, so if you haven't seen that movie you aren't missing anything. (Other than a very good film, I mean.) It's mostly just a title gag based on a similar element of the plot -- someone wanting to erase a portion of their memory, and then wanting to recover those memories later on. I guess it's similar enough that you would say "Wasn't there a movie kind of like this?"

'Cause it's Flanders. Hearing the sounds of shouting and the implication that someone was injured is enough for him to get the cops involved.

I really enjoyed this episode. There were funny jokes throughout, and I liked Homer seeing his memories and then having his life flash before his eyes. I was wondering why Marge didn't just tell Chief Wiggum (and to a lesser extent the dog thing), and I was pleasantly surprised they actually gave it a simple and logical explanation.
Was that a Watchmen reference?

I thought Patty and Selma went a bit far, but honestly, the thing that bothered me the most was how they somehow got onto that boat so quickly and without really knowing what was going on. I think they did a better joke like this when everyone was in on an elaborate scheme to stop Homer and Bart from conning people and it turned out that Willie wasn't.

This was one of the most interesting, funny and over all well done Simpsons episodes in years. This season has been better then the past few but this episode well it's new simpsons at it's best. I can't add anything that has not already been said so I will just leave it at that.

Favorite parts of the episode:
1) Homer to Santa's Little Helper: "Quick boy! Find the family! And show me where they are on MapQuest!"
"Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....."
"All right, Google Maps."
2) Homer's memories being a YouTube video, with the other video featured at the end being something about a squirrel, and having five stars, and over two million views.

The plot was interesting and creative (and starting out the episode with Homer searching the empty house generated viewer interest), but I honestly didn't laugh very much, outside of the YouTube rewatch joke, ugly Moe faces, and "The beer of champagne!" And those were all just chuckles, not LOL moments.
