Not the jump kind of scare, but make you scared to go to bed kind of scared. I know it's stupid, but I was watching episode 9 "Protocol"of Serial Experiments Lain late on saturday night with the lights out and at the beginning there's a part where Lain is in her room, and a shadowy figure is in her doorway, and it turns out to be a Roswell Gray alien and it gave her a creepy smile I know it's stupid, but that kind of thing kind of creeps me out, and I turned on just about every light in the house when I went upstairs to bed. So am I weird or has this happened to anyone else?

The animation that sticks in my mind right now is Little Nemo. THAT was a scary animation.
The first time I couldn't get through watching the movie, the second time I watched the whole thing, but can't remember what happened at the end (i only remember the first half of the movie because i've watched it so many times), and to this day when I want a recap of Little Nemo and asks my friends and sister if they want to watch it with me, NO ONE WILL. We're all in our 20's, too. Well, late teens, early 20's. Is that so pathetic of us? I keep thinking, "It's only a cartoon" but....eeech. It's one scary cartoon.........
A scary cartoon with such an innocent name! :p
Oh I just remembered another! Totoro! The one where the cat bus comes and picks the girl and Totoro up. That cat bus is creeeeeeepy!

--by Chuck Jones. I don't know; Jerry seems very out-of-character taking delight in torturing Tom with stuff like a ketchup-covered steak knife, gun, and noose. Usually Tom deserved what he got, because of his pursuing/mistreating Jerry, but in this one all he's doing is sleeping, and Jerry and his little friend keep trying to drive him mad for no reason.
The deaths of such anime characters like Nephlyte of Sailor Moon and Spike Speigel of Cowboy Bebop that tend to resonate in the psyche.
Oh, and some of the stuff in Wicked City'll give you sleepless nights, for sure.

er........all shows with clowns........that's scary! Well, most shows with them....it has to be a good show for me to actually watch it.

CLOWN???!!!! :wakko:
There was an episode--"Carrots From Space" or something like that-- where these carrots from outer space change Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, and Daffy Duck into two-dimensional-like characters. (I *know* they're already two-dimensional! You need to see it to know what I mean). They all tried to convince Bugs to eat one of the carrots. Bugs takes a carrot home, and while he's not looking, a two-dimensional Bugs Bunny rises out of the carrot. It picks up the ax, and advances towards the real Bugs....
That wasn't the part that really scared me, though....the part that made me literally *scream* (yes, I really screamed) was at the end. Porky was supposed to say "That's all, folks!". Instead, his 2-D counterpart came out and started repeating itself, like a broken record... "Th-that th-that-th-that..." {shudder}. Then Bugs threw him into a bag and restored the real Porky.
The scariest thing in the world.....anyone else see it?

The last one, actually, is Nickelodeon. There *is* a difference; CN doesn't chop up the beginnings of certain cartoons and plaster their logo everywhere.....

Thats such a great cartoon! "Leave my brain alone!" There's real tension in this scene, something that's rare for Spongebob episodes.

If this cartoon sounds like a WB Hubie and Bertie vs Claude Cat cartoon, thats because it IS a Hubie and Bertie vs Claude Cat cartoon, just with different characters. Jones loved to repeat himself, apparently.

Totoro and his cat bus friend scared me too. Those grins are very malicious looking and those creepy big eyes. :p
Outside of anime, what scared me more than anything were the ghosts in The Real Ghostbusters, especially the Boogie Man and the Grundel. And when I was even younger, Eon the Terrible from Rudolph's Shiny New Year. He was very scary.

OMG, those guys scared me too, but I still liked them :D . One that was the grossest was when a purplish, slimey monster was attached to each of the Ghostbusters and later fused into one and the one when they were in a space shuttle.

I loved the Real Ghostbusters too, but some of those ghosts really scared me that I had trouble sleeping at night. I think the Grundel really got to me because for them to increase their numbers, they take kids and teach them their ways and slowly transforming them into Grundels. I was always afraid to look out of the window at night, thinking I might see the reflection of a Grundel staring straight at me. :D

I only saw the first few eps of Lain...but it thoroughly freaked me out. That, and the X movie. Not really scared as in, scared when I went to bed or anything. It just totally messed with my mind and I couldn't stop thinking about it. It was scary, haunting, and just plain trippy.

X was weak just alot of blood nothing to get freaked out about. To much blood actually look more like kool aide or punch. That last fight was so stupid I thought it would be longer then that. Sorry if I sound like I am bashing on X but it was way over rated.

X wasn't overrated...it got pretty bad reviews across the board and by most fans anyway...that isn't overrated, it's on the mark.
However, Barb has good reason to be impressed by the visuals. There really is some nice imagery there. It's just the story that goes nowhere...

I don't recall USA Today quotes on the box. I did see some Gamer's Republic and Animerica quotes. Not exactly reputable critics there.
In Serial Ecp. Lain in some of the 1st eps there is this girl who is standing behind a railroad track and the pic changed from this smiling face to this horrible scream - that freaked me out for real!!

There is NO differences in regards to freaking me out - am I just getting too old for cartoons - I'd have been deranged as a kid if I had to put up with these cartoons!
As for CN, well in the UK, CN has beginning to cut of the title sequences. On the current rerun of series 1 of Batman Beyond, the title sequence is removed from the late night showing..
But I digress...
Even Dexter freaks me out. You can keep him and his freaky lab and freaky sister over your side of the atlantic. Even thats not far enough!

Where you get the point I don't really feel like finding that X video just to see what quotes are in it, My point is the video sucked and If you don't agree fine. It is just a opinion I thought that the cover was over rated.

Well, we're beating it dead now.
If you forgot, I said that I thought the video sucked. I just don't agree it was overrated. It got really bad reviews from most of my searchings (just check IMDB), and usenet has mile-long threads from anime fans slamming the show. There aren't a lot of people out there making it better than it is.
And, you know, even the worst-reviewed movies out there find the odd positive quote to put on their cover. I'm sure there was one or two good reviews from some crap critics on the Battlefield Earth cover, and in no way was that movie "overrated."

Calhoun - This from a guy with a dancing Britney Spears avatar? Moving on...
Danielle - You were scared by a "Spongebob Squarepants" episode? Not to insult you, but c'mon! Noting your avatar, there was a scary moment in the A! ep "Potty Emergency" where Wakko's desperate search for a bathroom led him to a gas station. Before going in, the guy in charge warns him that the bathroom hasn't been cleaned in a year, followed by a malevolent laugh. Wakko then goes in; he turns on the light and, at that moment, hundreds of roaches crawl away from the door. To me, they were much scarier than the potential horror that scared Wakko away.

The first episode of "Petshop of Horrors." I'll never look at bunnies the same way again.
And I'm commenting on X only to agree that it was a pretty rotten movie, which is what you get when you try cramming an entire manga with seventeen major angst-ridden characters into a two-hour movie. From what I've seen of the series, it's doing a heck of a lot better.

I was terrified by Slayers, which my friends forced me to watch, but that might have been the Minnie-Mouse-on-helium voice more than anything else.
I was disturbed by the last few eps of Neon Genesis Evangelion that another friend made me watch. When they showed Rei Ayanami as a little kid, she totally freaked me out. And Kaoru was creepy.

When I first saw Perfect Blue it feaked me out!
"Excuse me, who are you?" (((Shutter))
I do remember being afriad of an ep. of Ghostbusters, which had a scene when the back of the monster's head suddenly grew an eyeball.
I've always been freaked over multi-eyed beings, that's why I can't watch an anime called 3X3 Eyes.
I don't know if this counts but in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, when the main villian (Chistopher Lloyd) 's toon form is revealed I had nightmares for weeks.

Here's what scared me. "Twin Angels". It's a hentai anime where this deamon like creature kidnaps these school girls, and........ Well let's just say the deamon's appearance gives new meaning to the term "Dick Head". Not only did it frighten me, it grossed me out, and taught me how wrong it is to abuse women. Something alot of rap artists need to learn. In fact, their punishment should be multiple viewings of this hentai.

Well, when you watch this kind of hentai, what are you expecting? The packaging clearly states that it's hentai, and the pics on the back pretty much tells you what you're in for.

I laugh when I see it now, but in my first viewing I saw the first half and had to stop and didn't watch the rest for a week. I was creeped out good until I viewed the rest and saw him cry. :)

It was actually the crying that creeped me out more than anything else--a grown man reduced to infancy, which humanized him...and then--CRUNCH. His demise. Followed by Spike, not even batting an eye, dismissing Jet's new data as unimportant and muttering, "I hate theme parks." (Presumably to a bounty hunter, a corpse is next to worthless, hense the blase atitude.)

Definitely Angela Anaconda. With those fantasies she has about "Ninnie Poo," she's gonna be a full-fledged psycho when she grows up. And "Mega Babies" (remember them?) I cringed every time Meg, Buck, and Derek used their "special" baby powers.
But what made me really cringe about that show was the fact that it was created by the guys who brought us SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron: the brothers Tremblay (Christian and Yvon).
What on Earth were these guys thinking?!?

I thought that was oneof the most original episodes of Cowboy Bebop ever, and I loved (and was creeped out by) every minute of it. Also, on Perfect Blue, the entire film, just about. The damn web site about Mima knowing everything about every part of her day. Jeez, how creepy can you get? I love it :D
