this one's been kinda bugging me for a while... I like TENS and everythinig but I do wonder why this project was greenlit TENG wasn't a box office success. and doesn't have the popularity of TLK,Aladdin and some others so why make it? besides the obvious $$$...
also why did the series take so long to air? normally shows from movies take about 1-3 years to air after the movie. yet this one was 5years or so after the movie. was it because of Kronk's new Groove? because the origiinal actors weren't available? hmm...

You got me.They're probably just milking it for all it's worth, which wasn't all that much in Disney's eyes to begin with.

I'd say they ran out of movies to make into TV shows. Basing a cartoon off a movie is a safe bet. Firstly the characters are already established, meaning there's a fan base, and the fact that writers don't have to develop a new set of characters. So all the writers have to do is create a scenario roughly adjacent to the film.
I also find it strange they even made a ENG sequal, since Disney tried very very hard to keep this movie down. And don't give me that "Emperor that loved his country" stuff, because I don't think the movie would have moved anything out of Disney Cliche's with that idea. In fact, not even a year after the movie premired in theaters, it was on ABC. Meanwhile, they trotted out 102 Dalmations like it was Dog's gift to the cinema. Go figure.
Merchandising was pretty scarce. A Happy Meal and a few late Bean Bags. That was it. A total shame, because even now, I want them to have an ENG figurine set.
My question reguarding the show is thus: Why by Toutatis does ABC have to rerun the same episodes over and over? Why won't they premire any of the Disney Channel episodes on their Saturday morning ABC spot? I'd love to see these new episodes, but am always disheartened to hear Kuzco say "Squeaken Squeaker Sqeak. Welcome to the show" for the hundredth time.

yeah, I feel sorry for people who don't get the Disney channel .. it's really annoying to see the same 4 or 5 episodes 5 million times:sad: ..
actually the Disney Channel has also been doing that lately .. it's seems that they are only showing 5 second season episodes and doing it over and over *sigh*

I'm just glad to see a cartoon with an ethnic approach after so many years.

meaning that it is good? lol.
TENG did mediocre at the box office but REALLLY popular in DVD/VHS sales, this is the reason why the even made a special two disk "Ultimate Groove" edition.
The movie DID have a fan base and Im guessing this is the reason why the show got greenlit to start. IMO its the best show Disney has come out with in years....

The only other one I can think of is Aladdin and yes it's good.
That's why I'm hoping for a God of War cartoon sometime soon.

Still wants a Kuzco T-Shirt. Hmmm.. A Kuzco Acadamy Adult T-shirt that looks like a college T-shirt. That would rock on so many levels.
I will say ENG is my favorite of the new era Late 90's early 00's Disney films, and I was delighted to see it was made into a sequal (which I still have to see) and A TV show. I love it, but I want to see new ones badly.

Because the original ENG movie began as a different film, the more dramatic Kingdom of the Sun, it ended up costing far more than it should have and took years to break even.
So why the tv show? Because when it ran on tv, it got very good ratings. And with a more streamlined tv production and some name recognition, it got a tv series.

Oh yeah, and I also forgot about Mike, Lu, & Og.
And to answer your question, my guess would be that Disney saw an increase in DVD sales or they just needed another original animated series, I don't know.

Don't forget the lone PS1 game (which, at the time of release, the PS1 was slowly going out the door anyways)

The Disney TV series based on the films are very popular overseas. Several years ago, the overseas branch of Disney (BVI) requested that another series on a film be produced. There were several possibilities presented: Robin Hood, Mulan, Emperor's New Groove, etc. Several pilots were produced and tested. The Emperor's New School tested best.

I will say, A Robin Hood series, if done well, has potential. But I'd figure they'd go with a more current film, and Emperor was the most current one. Mulan seems like it would run out of Steam very quickly.
