SNL "BEST OF" COMPILATIONS TO AIR IN PRIMETIME ON SATURDAYS
NBC TO "LIVE"-EN UP SATURDAY NIGHT PRIMETIME WITH SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE COMPILATION SPECIALS
90-MINUTE SNL BEST OF'S TO AIR BEGINNING SATURDAY DECEMBER 8 (9:30 11:00 PM ET/PT)

New York, NY December 5, 2007 NBC is bringing more Saturday Night Live to its Saturdays. Beginning December 8, the network will begin airing 90-minute best of's in primetime.

The run of highlight shows begins on December 8 with THE BEST OF WILL FERRELL, which features the popular cast member turned movie star in some of his signature roles. From Craig the Spartan Spirit cheerleader and singing middle school teacher Marty Culp to his Alex Trebek on "Celebrity Jeopardy," the special features many of Ferrell's hilarious highlights all with a generous helping of "More Cowbell."

On December 15 features THE BEST OF CHRIS FARLEY which chronicles the raucous laughs of Farley's unforgettable characters: motivational speaker Matt Foley, the starstruck host of the aptly titled "Chris Farley Show," the Chicago Bears SuperFan and his indelible performance as a Chippendale Dancer.

The following week, December 22, features THE BEST OF 2006-07. The special will feature some of the most talked-about sketches from the show's current cast including: Rep. Nancy Pelosi's (Kristen Wiig) address to the nation, host Jake Gyllenhaal's "Dreamgirls" drag monologue, SuperBowl MVP Peyton Manning being coached by a dancing Will Forte as well as highlights from the "Weekend Update" team of Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers will also be featured alongside the latest addition to the comedy institution's satirical repertoire "SNL Digital Shorts." Written, shot and edited fresh each week, sometimes just before the live broadcast, the "SNL Digital Shorts" have captured the attention of "SNL" viewers, the press and are some of the most-watched videos on the internet. This special will include the Emmy winning holiday short with Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake -- "D*** in a Box"

Finally, on December 29 SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE GOES COMMERCIAL with an entire special of the show's signature commercial parodies -- from early classics like "Bass-O-Matic" and "Little Chocolate Donuts" to current favorites like "Mom Jeans" and "Swiffer Sleepers."

Oh man. That should be a good special.

Awesome news: I think I like these reruns better than the new material (and I'm probably not alone by any means).

The "Cowbell Sketch" alone is a reason to watch the Best of Will Ferrell episode (you'll never be able to listen to "Don't Fear the Reaper" the same way ever again after watching that sketch).

BTW, anyone else wished that SNL could have produced a new "Best of Xmas" episode for this year as a way to provide holiday entertainment during the strike (of course, it will include more recent classics like "Xmas Time for the Jews" and "D*** in a Box")?

This one should be awesome, especially since they'll be showing older ones, too. Though it's probably too much to hope for the "Colon Blow" cereal commercial with Phil Hartman. :D

I agree with you on both. The Cowbell Sketch is a classic, not to mention Best of Will Ferrel also includes Celebrity Jeopardy. A New Best of Christmas special would be good too.

Have they made a best of norm macdonald yet? Now while most of his stuff was done on update, he did have some memorable stuff outside update as well (who can forget his classic burt reynolds parody?).

There's more than enough stuff to do a top-notch Best of Weekend Update as well. Not just the anchors (Chase, Curtin/Ackroyd, Miller, MacDonald, Nealon, Fey -- we'll forget all about Charles Rocket) but the contributors as well (Emily Litella, OperaMan, etc.).

Sadly, the "Best-Of's" is probably the best thing of SNL, though on some of them (like Mike Myers and PHil Hartman), they are not fleshed out enough.
