The Official CBC "Best of 2007" Nominations Thread!

Do any of these comic books have what it takes to be the Best of 2007?!?

Another year is drawing to a close, and once again, the Comic Book Culture forum is interested in what YOU think is the best, (and worst) of the last year in comics!

Just like the Oscar's reward the year's best films, we're going to be awarding the winners of the "Best of the Year" in comics! This process will be broken down into two parts: A "Nominations" thread, (that's what this thread is) followed by the actual "Awards" thread! After the votes in the "Awards" thread are counted, the winner's will be declared!!!

Here are the catagories for which we want your nominations:

Best Continuing Comic Book
Best Writer
Best Artist
Favorite Hero/Heroine
Favorite Team
Favorite Villian
Best Limited Series

Rule #1: Please feel free to post multiple nominations in each category-you can make multiple nominations now, but when it comes time to cast your vote in the actual "Awards" thread, you can only place one vote!

Rule #2: Please make your nominations for comics released from December 1st, 2006 to December 1st, 2007. Any comics that come out in December will go on next year's nominations. For the "Best Limited Series" category, your nominations should be for mini-series and limited series for which the majority of issues were released in 2006, (thus "Countdown", and "Annihilation: Conquest" (the entire event) can be nominated, but the recent "Captain Marvel" miniseries from Marvel, (of which only the 1st issue has been released) cannot be nominated.

Want to see what people were nominating last year? Click here to see last year's Nomination's Thread! (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=179609)

This nominations thread will run until December 16th. The actual voting "Awards" thread will run for 2 weeks after that, ending on January 1st. After that, the votes will be tallied, and the winners will be announced!!

Following that, come January, the winners in each main catagory will be awarded prizes in the form of Theme Weeks!!! Yes, that's right, we're bringing back the Theme Week events from last year's awards! During each Theme Week, the format of the Comic Book Culture forum will change to reflect the winners of the awards early next year. It's a fun way to celebrate your favorite comic books, and participation gives you the chance to win a "Guest Pick of the Week" in our weekly "This Week in Comics" thread!

There will be other categories you will be allowed to vote on in the actual voting thread, (such as "Best New Talent" and "Favorite Supporting Character") but these other catagories will not have nominations. If you have other categories you'd like to recommend, please feel free to post your recommendations in this thread as well!

So let's hear your nominations for the above categories, and wish your favorite comic book characters good luck! ;)

Enjoy this Toon Zone "Best of 2007" event? Here are some other year end Toon Zone "Awards" threads:

Best Continuing Comic Book - Detective Comics, Daredevil, Ultimate Spider-Man
Best Writer - Ed Brubaker, Paul Dini.
Best Artist - Mark Bagley, John Romita Jr.
Favorite Hero/Heroine - Daredevil, Batman. This one usually goes to Spider-Man but he has been so horrendously out of character this year he's near the point of runination for me.
Favorite Team - The Ultimates
Favorite Villian - Mr. Fear - oddly enough, this time last year, I had no idea who he was! The Joker also had some outstanding appearances in the "Detective" storyline in Detective Comics, but this Countdown stuff sounds like nonsense, but I've not been reading it.
Best Limited Series - World War Hulk - this has been one of the best crossovers in years.

This list seems a little short - we used to have a lot more catagories. May I ask why it's been trimmed down?

This list seems a little short - we used to have a lot more catagories. May I ask why it's been trimmed down?

No, I believe it's the exact same amount of nominations we had last year. (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=179609)

You're perhaps thinking of the actual Awards thread, (here's last year's thread) (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=180569), which has more catagories for votes. We'll run that thread in Mid-December, after the Nominations thread.

This Nominations thread is more for preparing our main catagories for the "Theme Weeks", event, (which is our way of actually awarding the winners). The catagories in this thread are our main catagories, and thus we're showcasing them a bit more than the rest. We may make revisions in the future, but last year this seemed to work pretty well. :)

I've removed the sticky on this thread, (I'm beginning to think a thread can become camouflaged at the top of the forum).

Anybody else have any nominations?!? If you have a pick for the Best in Comics for 2007, then give us your picks!!

While Death Note was published in the states bi-monthly, the chapters were written and drawn weekly over in Japan and while part two of the series had a few rough spots the art was qite detailed and the

Well, yes, you're free to vote for whoever you choose, (for best writer, best artist, or whatever), though take note that there will be a "manga" catagory in the main voting thread, (a question asking "What is Best Manga of the last year?") Perhaps we will have an expanded "manga" voting section in the future, wait and see...

You now have one week left to give us your nominations. The Nominations thread will run until next Sunday night, (Dec. 16th) at midnight, EST. The next day, (Dec. 17th) the actual "Best of 2006" Voting thread will begin and run for 2 weeks, (till January 1st)!

Don't blame us if your favorite superhero/writer/artist/comic book doesn't end up on the list of choices in the actual voting thread because you didn't nominate them!!

I also hope some of my choices light some bulbs above some people's heads, just as reading the posts above mine did to me I'm looking forward to the voting thread!

You bring up a good point: if anybody sees a choice made by someone else, and wants to add them to their list of nominations, you are allowed to go back and edit it into your post. Sometimes it takes a while to go back and think about all the cool comics you enjoyed over the past year. I recommend digging back through the last year's worth of threads on the CBC forum - but you can also see how others are voting here to give you ideas as well!!!

Remember, winners of the Voting Thread will recieve a Theme Week celebrating the winners in January/February of next year!!!

The CBC forum is open to all types of comics, but our main discussion does come from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image, (and a few others), which tends to make the focus around here be on superheroes, (though the votes in this thread may award someone or some comic which has nothing to do with superheroes)!!

It all depends on who you guys vote for!

Favorite Villians: Doc Ock, Lex Luthor, Kingpin, Joker, Penguin, Leader, Abomination, Will O' the WispI know the Favorite Villian catagory can be a tough one, but try and keep your picks to villians that have actually appeared in the last 12 months. I'm not sure when the last time the Will O' the Wisp was in a Spider-Man comic book.

There have been oiver twelve months since will o' the wisp appeared in deadly foes of peter parker? Or he hasn't appeared and my source just made an error?
