Okay, this has been pissing ticking me off. For some reason, my laptop won't burn anything onto a DVD disc.

I bought some blank DVD-R discs hoping to burn some episodes onto them.
I set up the burning process then put the disc in.
When I clicked to burn the show onto the disc, it says: "Please insert a blank DVD-R or RW disc!" http://apforums.net/images/smilies/ipb/getlost.pngI don't understand, since the discs are like, brand new and aren't scratched or anything. Is my computer missing a program or some piece of equipment? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What program are you using? Have you tried another? That might help indicate whether the problem is with your software or burner. Have you tried updating your DVD burner's drivers? Are you sure your burning software is being pointed to the right drive letters? Have you tried converting your project into an .iso file on your hard drive and burning that? Is this happening with data DVDs, video DVDs, or both? Are you running any other software that might potentially muck with your DVD settings, such as an .iso loader? Have you tried going to Task Manager and killing all other running programs and processes besides your burning program and those necessary for Windows? Have you tried it in Safe Mode? Have you run a Windows Update lately? How about antivirus and antispyware scans? What OS are you using? What model burner are you using? Have you tried doing a Google search with the model name of your burner and the text of the error message to see if others are having the same problem?

Etc. etc. etc.

I've never known a DVD burner that worked exceptionally well. Most of the time they're either slower than a turd after stuff crust pizza, they freeze mid-burn or they eject prematurely.

It seems most are slow but the other things are problems of note.

As for that specific problem. Make sure you have the right type of DVD-R/DVD-RW. Apparently burning speed settings do matter and some disc are specifically made for certain burning speeds. The first thing I would do is try a different brand of disc after checking if you need a certain burning speed setting. I've managed to get some discs to burn and others never seem to work.

It's probably not your software or your burner but that's possible as well.

What program are you using?

I've used Nero burning software, Windows Movie Maker (where it says 'Save to CD') and I just tried this software called Burn My Files. No avail. =[

Have you tried updating your DVD burner's drivers? & Are you sure your burning software is being pointed to the right drive letters?

Not yet. & Yes, it is!

Have you tried converting your project into an .iso file on your hard drive and burning that?

Not yet.

Is this happening with data DVDs, video DVDs, or both?

I've only tried video DVD's, since that's the only kind I plan on using.

Are you running any other software that might potentially muck with your DVD settings, such as an .iso loader?

I don't think so.

Have you tried going to Task Manager and killing all other running programs and processes besides your burning program and those necessary for Windows?

I've tried that once.

Have you tried it in Safe Mode? & Have you run a Windows Update lately? How about antivirus and antispyware scans?

Why didn't I think to try that? Doy. & Yes, I have! *nods*

What OS are you using? What model burner are you using? & Have you tried doing a Google search with the model name of your burner and the text of the error message to see if others are having the same problem?

Don't know and I'd have to check the name of the model. >< & I'll try that this week.

New discs? I could try that.

I GET EXACTLY THE SAME THING!

It is sooo frustrating so I've basically given up.

Actually this could be a very simple issue, as I've had similar problems in the past.

Try putting the disc into the DVD Drive prior to setting up the burning process. For me, if I put the disc it right before I choose the "Burn" option, it simply won't register.

Also, make sure your empty disc is visible on "My Computer" if it is, the Driver should be able to recognize it.

Quoted for truth. I used to do it the same way and would have problems about 50% of the time. But now I put my blank media in and give it a moment to be recognized before even opening the burning software, and it's worked without incident ever since. :)

Google could have solved this problem easily.

Oh google, the source of all answers to all problems lol, but I find it hard to get an answer that actually works from google.
