View Full Version : Nicktoons Vs. Cartoon Cartoons
I simply fall for cartoon cartoons and I hate mostly EVERYthing Nickelodeon does. The first reason why I hate Nicktoons; Only 2 out of all their 14 series I like (Spongebob and Zim),The Second is that they copy anything successful from cartoon network (for example,When Cartoon Orbit was a success about 5 monthes later they release "e-collectables"),and the Third reason I hate Nickelodeon's cartoon's is because they Hype up New shows for about 2 monthes before they come out.

I love Cartoon Cartoons too. I only watched one show on The Orange Network, "Rocket Power," but eventually stopped watching it when I got tired of watching reruns of reruns of reruns
on top of reruns, and started watching Samurai...(Blush!)...Awww, you know!
And the Men in Orange are the worst copycats! CN had "What A Cartoon" first, then Nick came out with "Oh Yeah! Cartoons." The only thing that came out of that failed experiment was "Fairly Oddparents." CN initiates "Cartoon Theater," then Nick gives us "Saturday Night Nick Flicks" and reruns all its cartoon movies almost to death.

Nicktoons were good back in 1991... admit it. They were pretty much amazing. "Ren & Stimpy," "Doug," and older "Rugrats" were awesome back then. Even though "R & S" and "Rugrats" declined in greatness, "Rugrats" even more so, back in 1991 - 1993 they were amazing. "Rocko's Modern Life" was also amazing too.
So I dearly love "Ren & Stimpy," "Doug," and "Rocko's Modern Life" to this day.
But ever since I watched "Dexter's Laboratory," nearly every Cartoon Cartoon has been a cult favorite of mine. These days, Cartoon Cartoons are nearly 100 times better than Nicktoons. More original, more funny, more viewable.
I'm expecting the majority of the answers to be on the CCs side. I wonder if anyone would choose Nicktoons over CCs... that'd be an interesting argument.
But I'd have to say Cartoon Cartoons.

I don't play favorites, but my guilty pleasure was the Wildthorn Berries a few years ago....don't tell anyone, ok?
So anyways, I can't say I like ALL of the Nicktoons....some of them just seemed too....blah. I haven't watched a Cartoon Cartoon I didn't like yet.

Okay, let me clear a few things up for you:
Good Cartoon Cartoons:
ALL OF THEM!
Bad Cartoon Cartoons:
Uh, none of them?
Good, but abused, Cartoon Cartoons:
Oh, and since when is CTN Nazi Germany?
Good Nicktoons:
Spongebob Squarepants
The Fairly Oddparents
CatDog
Pelswick
Bad Nicktoons:
The K-C Garbage
Good, but abused, Nicktoons:
John K. Ren and Stimpy's (but, hey, don't they air on VH1?)
Rocko (Is it still on Nick at 6:30 AM?)
The Angry Beavers (It's resting in an archive and the unseen final year even made the creator want to shoot Nick)
Invader ZIM (An all-time low for the network, if you know what I mean. They treated it as if it were the work of the devil, when it had a solid fan base, ratings that would keep it on the air, and AWARDS, people. AWARDS! Bad Nick, bad. Satan.)
Got it?

I think the all-time WROST thing Agent Orange has inflicted on us is:
BUTT-UGLY MARTIANS
The fact that this piece of fecal matter was allowed to stay on (and even start producing merchandise like ACTION figures!) and they tossed a magnificent show like Zim off the air truly leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Screw you, Nick... SCREW you.

You've missed out, Cool Girl...
Catdog, Invader Zim, Rocko's Modern Life, The Angry Beavers (oh, how I miss the Angry Beavers... :( )
Nick has nothing of note now. When they get a good show, they destroy it.

Nick
I feel ashamed when I watch nick. Thats how much they've changed. I remember when I was 5 watching Ren and Stimpy with my brother, Rocko at dinner time, and Doug when I got home from school. I was happy when these shows came on. Now I only flick through to see if Invader zim is on, but alas, it never is. (it was on yesterday at 1:00-2:00, though)IZ is the only great show to grace the network in a few years.
CN
This network should be the new "kids" network. It has much better shows, the people who run the shows aren't stupid, and don't cancel the only great shows. I mean, have you ever heard an animator for CN ever dissing or making fun of CN?? Nope, but Jhonen said: If you see any person Nick related, kick them in the balls.
CN RULES.

What gets me that, in my humble opinion, that "Johnny Neutron" is a RIPOFF of "Dexter's Lab". I saw the previews of it in the theaters and it sucked big time! I can't belive that CN is not sueing Nick for pledgerizing thier materials!
I do like some of the earlier Nick toons :Ren & Stympy, Rocko, Spongebob (not because it's funny and original but it has the voice of Tom Kenny(Carl, Mandark, ect.) of CN fame).

If any show on Nick is allowing more than that, I think I'll pass.

Well in Cartoon Cartoons they won't say phrases like 'Wuss out' or 'crap' ,but they say them in Nicktoons (Hey Arnold in specific).

Cartoon Cartoons never allow anything to die, while Invader Zim does (even though it has a disclaimer: No animated characters were harmed in this show).

I like the Cartoon Cartoons better than Nick now. Before, I was a really big Nick-fan, but since they replaced their best shows from the early-mid '90s, I hardly watch it now. Maybe a little Hey Arnold! when I get a chance, but anything else, it's . . . mostly blank TV to me. Cartoon Cartoon get my tops. I just hope that Cartoon Network won't do the same mistake Nick did.

I know Nick overshows certain TV shows for example over the summer they have a 3 hour marathon each week day afternoon, plus the other times they show each show a day here's an example.
1 Episode of Rocket Power (morning)
6 Episode Marathon of Rocket Power (Afternoon)
2 Episodes of Rocket Power during the night.
that's a total of 4 and a half hours a day, there where 39 episodes at that time. That's about a fourth of the episodes a day! and I hate that show just as much as I hate Nick.
That's how they overshow episodes.

The Only good shows on Nickelodeon were:
Invader Zim (Nick never treated it as it should be treated, needs to come to CN where it will get more attention)
Spongebob Squarepants (Man, theres just something about that show...)
Fairly Oddparents (Saw a few episodes, I thought it was pretty good)
I CANT STAND ROCKET POWER!!
O yea.. Cartoon Cartoons are better.

I USE to be a fan of Nicktoons. Back when A) I was a little kid, and B) Nick didn't get all cocky, commercial, and crappy in general.
The only good Nicktoons right now are the Fairly Oddparents, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Invader Zim, which are actually original and have some GOOD writing. All the other Nick shows are Klasky-Csuspo shows, which, unfortuantly, are all pretty much the same: awful animation and cheap joke factories *which aren't very funny, BTW, since they're recycled each week*.
The C-Network's toons are much better, since they don't let success get to them and they the CN strives to actually keep a decent quality about them. Dexter, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, Courage...all different from one another, and serious about being funny *REALLY sad metaphor :p*. That's what makes them so good. Nick doesn't even try anymore.

I call Nickelodeon "Nicktoon Hell". If they had showed more than just crappy Nicktoons all day, then I'll watch again. Here is schedule in blocks:
Monday-Friday
6:00am - 9:00am: Various Nicktoons
9:00am - 2:00pm: Nick Jr.
2:00pm - 9:00pm: Various Nicktoons
9:00pm - 6:00am: Nick at Nite
Saturday
6:00am - 8:00am: Classic Nicktoons (Some of the better ones)
8:00am - 8:00pm: Various Nicktoons
8:00pm - 10:00pm: SNICK
Sunday
6:00am - 8:00am: Classic Nicktoons
8:00am - 2:00pm: Various Nicktoons
2:00pm - 4:00pm: Nick GAS (Its just a Nicktoons block in disguise)
4:00pm - 6:00pm: SNICK Repeat
6:00pm - 8:30pm: Teen Nick (They have 1 nicktoon: As told by Ginger)
8:30pm: Nick News (Does this even come on anymore?)
9:00pm - 6:00am: Nick at Nite
See a pattern? Way too many Nicktoons being played. There's only around 15 hours (out of 149 hours a week) that play something other than Nicktoons. It doesn't make any sense.

Think about it perhaps this way -- if Nicktoons get their own channel -- when this channel gets into a majority of the population's cable systems -- then perhaps the original Nick channel will lessen up on the Nicktoon garbage and perhaps .. well.. get some foriegn animation?
Ha, ha, doubtful. It would be great if they would bring back Belle and Sebastian though.

Cartoon Networks Zoids and Thunder Cats and Scooby Doo were the all time worse cartoons shown on cartoon network!!! And that Boomerange stuff of 70 cartoons is the worst thing on TV!!!!
But Nick's Pelswick is the cartoon that could win "worst drawings of the year" but some of the plots do make since!! Rocket Power gets on my nerves because they play it so often. That slime time live thing has got to go because its nothing but people screaming at the top of their lungs all the time and is just down right stupid!! :( They seem to always change their line up so you never know whats on!! :p

Overall I think Cartoon Cartoons have a little more scarcastic edge. Think of Dexter, PPG, Sheep, and even Cow and Chicken. They are all cartoons with a twist of commentary and outrageous humor.
Nicktoons tend to stress the ups and downs of childhood. While they attempt humor, they usually just use that as a tool to tell the story of some kid that is dealing with a problem or learning something new.
As I said before it comes down to taste. I think most of us just grew out of the Nicktoon mentality. Maybe its still approiate for younger kids to watch, but personally I find morality and animation don't mix much. So everyone, let's just call it even. Its apples and oranges here. Yeah, two networks have their own animation, but as least its not Toon Disney. LOL!

Here's my spiel on Nicktoons. I came around on Spongebob and love it now. Miss The Angry Beavers greatly, I really like Hey Arnold but I'm damn sick of the reruns and will probably hang up on it after the Movie Comes out this August; Fairly Oddparents and Invader Zim are brilliant, the latter is amazingly so, and I like Catdog because of Jim Cummings doing Cat's voice, (I have no Toon Disney so I can't get my Darkwing Duck fix; and believe I would Kill for TD just to watch DWD) BUUUUUUT of all the ones listed here I LOVED beyond Reason and no one Has mentioned it, AHHH! REAL MONSTERS was one of my favorite of all time! Ickis, Krumm and Oblina, you're talking Dex before there was a Dex, Charlie Adler doing his Best character, miles above any done on Cow and Chicken, and the Gromble, who doesn't love the Gromble?! Real Monsters and it was a great Nicktoon.
The rest I can take or leave,
Though I LOVED the Rugrats ep where Chuckie Had a nightmare and the Real Monsters showed up! Ahhh Ickis, you're stuttering neurotic self is sorely missed.
-n
I think Cow and Chicken took the humor and disgusting butts from Ren and Stimpy. I think that's the only time CN copied Nick. But everything else nick copies from Cartoon Network.
I used to like Nick. I loved Rocko, Ren & Stimpy, and old Rugrats. Then I hated Nick for awhile, untill ZIM came! Invader Zim is the best Nicktoon ever!
Then I heard Nikc cancelled Zim because they thought it "would influence children to ebcome violent and kill their peers."
Now it's official... I hate Nickelodeon. They take away Zim and give us total crap like Butt Ugly Martians... my God, that has got to be one of the worst shows I have ever seen... Thos damn But-Uglies get action figures and clothing already!
I should write a fanfic called Zim VS. The Butt Ugly Martians...
Overall, Nick sucks. All they show is garbage like But Uglies, Rocket Power, Rugrats, Nick Jr., and other trash.
Rocko I never see on anymore, and Zim has gone bye-bye :(

Anyway, The question is WHO HAS THE BEST CARTOONS not what network you like better and which treats which better.
Nicktoons have the advantage for sure: Angry Beavers, Aah Real monsters, Some Catdog, Doug, Early rugrats, Invader Zim, Fairly Odd parents, Rocko, Ren and stimpy.
While Cartoonnetwork has a few: Ed Edd and Eddy and sheep in the big city. Most of the cartoon cartoons are very overrated like Dexter and PPG.

Notice how 7/9 of those cartoons aren't producing new episodes. I agree, I have fond memories of watching rocko and ren&stimpy when i was 5, but it has dwindled into an mtv type station. Show whats popular.*coughSlimeTtimeLivecough* And it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, like other people have said. Nick just doesn't know what to do with their great shows, and they mess it up. Thats why I want that new nicktoon channel, for some good 'ol rocko, and ren & stimpy so I can forget about what they've done.

I used to love Nickelodeon when I was younger and when I got Cartoon Network five years ago, it was mainly old H-B shows. I used to watch "Dexter" back when it was on TBS and enjoyed it. When I got Cartoon Network, I occassionally watched. I perfered Nickelodeon and later spawned my now defunct website, called Nick Weekly. Needless to say, Cartoon Network began to churn out some great original series. Now I'm a huge fan of the network. Nickelodeon tried to become "hip" and as a result, they alienated some of their fans. But that's okay, though. Nickelodeon has always proclaimed itself as a kids network. Cartoon Network, on the other hand, caters to many different demographics and its slogan is, "The Best Place for Cartoons." I definitely agree with that statement.

Johnny Bravo < ZIM
Sheep In the Big City > Ren and Stimpy
Dexter > Rocko
Time/space/bandwith saver: *CN wins all the rest*
If I pair each Cartoon Cartoon with a Nicktoon of the same status for the network (ie. Red and Stimpy is my second fav, so I pair it with my second fav from CN), CN would come out on top in every match. Only one that I like better than any Cartoon Cartoon is ZIM.
I only wish CN would play more Freakzoid, Sheep, and Johnny Bravo.

nearly every network is guilty of over advertising and over playing some of thier shows. nickelodeon just gets a little trigger-happy with it. i have a 1 year old brother, so i am forced to watch nick and disney playhouse quite often. i hate the fact that my brother is going to grow up without knowing the joy of watching good shows like rocko, ren & stimpy, ahhh! real monsters, and angry beavers. and don't even get me started on invader zim. i'm a jhonen vasquez fan in the highest degree. if you like what you saw in IZ, then read vasquez's comics like 'johnny the homicidal maniac' or 'i feel sick.' nick cancelled zim because some uptight parents thought it was inappropriate for their little munchkins to be watching. personally, i think its the southern baptist's convention's doing.
on cc, they are a bit overrated. i don't watch them too often, but i still like them. the diffrence between cartoon network and nick is that cn actually plays the shows people like, while nick takes their real ingenious shows and puts them on at odd hours when i'm not awake or they just cancell them.
