View Full Version : Something that only happens once every 1001 years

Ok, it's pedantic, but some people might care:
At exactly 8.02 PM on February 20 this year it will be an historic
moment in time. It will not be marked by the chiming of any
clocks or the ringing of bells, but at that precise time, on that
specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for
1,001 years and will never happen again.
As the clock ticks over from 8.01pm on Wednesday, February
20, time will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry
2002, 2002, 2002, or to be more precise - 20:02, 20/02, 2002.
This historic event will never have the same poignancy as the
11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which marks
Armistice Day, but it is an event which has only ever happened
once before, and is something which will never be repeated.
The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern
was long before the days of the digital watch and the 24-hour
clock - at 10.01am on January 10, 1001. And because the clock
only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again

If your clock goes by military time, wouldn't you see that anyways? :D

How many people have clocks that go by military time? And even if you do, this is just a reminder.

Wow, that's pretty awesome! And here I was just excited when Feb. 2 came around and it was, 2002, 02, 02. Speaking of that, we'll all be dead and gone when a year like 2002 comes along, when it's the same front and backwards. The next time will be something like 2112.

Wait a second... that statistic is dependent on you listing out time European style. 20/02, or 20 February, is how they do it in Europe. But, in the U.S. and Canada, its listed as February 20, or 02/20... then it just becomes another day...

I'd like to thank whoever deleted my post in this thread without telling me about it or offering ways I could have edited it. That's what I take time to write posts for, after all. Keep up the good work.

What post, Terminatah? I didn't see anything (of course, I wasn't on here from about 9pm last night til noon today).
Another thought occured to me: this will NOT happen in another 1001 years. 3003...well, since there is no time that is 30:03, this is the last year this will happen. Celebrate as you will!

So......this won't even happen in the 10,000s, because there is not such time as 200:02.
{pause}
Aw darn it, and I lent out all my party favors. :(

The 20th even falls on a Wednesday, the middle of the week. How palindromic is that? In order to celebrate, at that exact time on that exact date, I will be doing something. Symmetry is involved. Elegant twins are involved. X-ray specs are involved.
And that's all I'm saying.

I thought it meant 20/2002. I knew that didn't make sense, though. I list it as 02/20.
I have my watch set to 24 hours, but I have it one hour fast intentionally. I hate Daylight Losings Time.

Do good? I? No! Evil anon I deliver. I maim nine more hero-men in Saginaw, sanitary sword a-tuck, Carol, I -- lo! -- rack, cut a drowsy rat in Aswan. I gas nine more hero-men in Miami. Reviled, I (Nona) live on. I do, O God!
Doctor Reubenstein was shocked and dismayed when he answered the ringing telephone, only to hear a strange, metallic, alien voice say, "Yasec iovn eilacilla temeg! Nartsa raehoty lnoenoh pelet gnig, nirehtde rewsnaehn ehw. Deya! Msid! Dnadek cohssaw nietsne buerro, tcod?"

I just witnessed something else I didn't think would happen for 1001 years...Danielle's posts just suddenly became even more inexplicable than we ever knew before! The mind boggles what the perfect symmetry of time will do to her tomorrow!
