If Dana is Chinese, then Terry is Latin.

Funny, I would have said she was Korean or Vietnameese.. but probably Korean.
Terry's Anglo all the way though. (McGinness is a U.K.ish name)

What the hell? What's the problem with Dana being Chinese? Her last name is "Tan" and her appearance is Asian.

Of course Dana is Chinese. Nightflower is right with the point that Dana's last name is "Tan." And most caucasian girls in the animated shows have colored eyes, but Dana has black eyes. I think that's saying something, if you ask me.
And though I know you were being sarcastic, if Terry is Latin, then you can speak and write English well. :D

Then Terry is definitely not Latin

Tan's a Chinese last name, it might also be Vietnamese, not sure about that. But I know it's not Korean.
McGuiness, isn't that irish?

McGuinness sounds Irish to me, if only for the "Mc" part of it.

Irish or Scottish...Welsh...that's why I said U.K.ish....

Well, it's obvious that Dana is of Asian descent; it seems that the writers of this show went all-out in making sure that all racial backgrounds are represented on the show, which is fine.
To nit-pick, though, based on her last name (Tan), I would have to agree that I believe she would be Vietnamese.

Tan is primarily seen as a Chinese last name. Amy Tan is an example, the American Chinese author, famous for Joy Luck Club . :p
Vietnamese last names run along the lines of Phan, Tran, and Nguyen. And the most common Korean last names I know of are Kim, Park, and maybe Lee (although this is a common Chinese last name too).
Based on this, I would agree that Dana Tan is Chinese, American Chinese to be exact. :)

Ya know until now I never really put much thought into the races... I just watched the show and didn't really pay attention to races on the different people unless they were highly noticeable... Although everytime I looked at Dana there was something about her that I just couldn't think of, guess that was it. :D

The fact that they covered a lot of racial bases, was one of the first things that caught my attention when seeing BB. Terry was white, Dana was asian, and Max was black. You normally don't find that a lot in cartoons it seems. Personally, I just always figured that Dana was chinese because of the name Tan. I have a lot of asians friends, or have known chinese people and the names Tan or Lee always popped up a lot. And, maybe if it makes no sense to anyone else, she just always looked chinese to me.

She is also voiced by Lauren Tom, who appears to be of Asian decent.

Yup, she also voices characters on King of the Hill and Futurama to name a few...

Yeup, and she played Lena St. Clair, a character from Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club (the movie version of course) who's the daughter of a Chinese mother and a Caucasian father.

Eh, is this because of me saying DANA was Japanese on the BBchick post? Boy, I guess I opened up a can o' worms. :p

For a second there I thought you said you had a problem with Dana being Japanese...and I almost had to bite your head off. Ya see, I'm 1/2 Japanese and I'm quite sensitive about anyone having problems with Japanese people. And I've got that Irish temper (from my dad's side of the family) so ya don't wanna make me mad... ;)
But Barb did say, "... The fact that they covered a lot of racial bases, was one of the first things that caught my attention when seeing BB..." And I have to agree. That was one of the things I loved about BB. I just wish they had kept the time steady at the end. I missed a lot of the episodes after JLU... :(
And I'm thinking that Dana is Chinese... :)

Well, now you know how I feel when Rimma Likover speaks about the idea of Dana Chinese being as ludicrous as a Latin Terry. ;)
Clark J. Kent

And Rimma's Russian herself (himself? I have no idea if Rimma's a girl or boy.)
Rimma, you know something? That whole idea about the blond girl on Captain Planet being Russian was ridiculous. Russians aren't blondes, after all. You might as well say that the redhead kid with the ring of fire was born and raised in the middle of Nigeria, right?
Silly Rimma. Dana's Chinese, Terry's not Latin, and your posts have neither foundations nor evidence.

LOL. Although sometimes I do wonder if Rimma is blonde, if you catch my drift ;) Not that I hate blondes! So don't be offended anybody :D

Russians are Slav, and there are plenty of blonde Slavs. It's not quite the stereotype that "blonde German" is, but blonde Slavs are no more rare than blonde Englishmen.
Anyhoo. . . I hope this isn't going to devolve into a series of posts trashing each other's looks.

Chill, dude. I may disagree with Rimma's opinions sometimes, but that doesn't mean I think he should be subjected to snide comments. That's not cool.

Alright, we'll just accept it all as so much good humor. Let's just drop it.
Anyhoo-- I'm surprised no one has made a connection between Dana and the prominent use of East Asian iconography in the future Gotham. It looks a lot like Blade Runner in there. Any thoughts on what appears to be a pretty big demographic shift in Gotham since the old days?

the..uh..Apocolypse of '09?
I dunno, the world as a whole is becomming for interracial, and as the walls of prejudice are brought down by better information, and closer ties do to the internet, I expect that the real world will mirror future gotham in many ways in terms of ethnic diversity.

Hmmm... maybe. R&B and Hip Hop have become popular as well as other African American based popular culture. Asian popular culture is making it's integration big time in the states, recently with Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Michelle Yeoh. There's also more integrated couples and friends I see where I usually hang around. Chinese characters are sporty, such as those removable tattoos and T-shirts.
And I don't know about Gotham, but the white percentage in CA is dropping, they're considered the minorities with the majority in Asian and Hispanic backgrounds I believe. So immigration a factor for demographic change? USA is the country of immigrants. :)

That's it.
People who have problems with each other need to leave it off the boards.
1. Read the rules. You must treat each other with respect. People you don't like you either leave alone, or you go out of your way to be polite to. There is no excuse for getting personal.
2. If it does get personal, take the personal discussion off the boards. There are PM and email functions here. Use them.
3. If the problem persists, call a mod. Don't take matters into your own hands.
4. If you take matters into your hands, or you persist in abusing each other, expect a call from a mod. And it won't be a happy one, either.
