Could somebody tell me what is going on with Nick at Nite? I was under the impression that it was supposed to be about classic TV, but they show nothing but new stuff now. George Lopez? What the heck? And whats the deal with these never ending Will Smith marathons? That guy sucked even worse back then than he does now.
They might as well make the whole channel Nickelodeon. I'd rather watch Spongebob than this crap.
Edit by Bird Boy: Watch the language, eh? It's just a network.

Why are you so harsh? I mean you continously act like a jerk, why is that?

I know, right? I mean, I agree, George Lopez has no right being on Nick@Nite so soon, but if you don't like it, don't watch it.

Nick at Nite needs a better blend of shows. I'd rather see them air 80's shows like Facts of Life and Gimme A Break myself, then maybe add Home Improvement and Roseanne in a few years when 90's nostalgia is hip.
What I REALLY miss, though, are the classic bumps with the live action guy in his aparment moving in stop motion animation.

It's called "TV Land".

They move up a decade every so many years. They used to show I Love Lucy and other black and white shows, then moved up a decade and showed Happy Days and Lavern and Sherley, then stuff like Three's Company and Wonder Years, then Roseanne, Cosby Show, and Fresh Prince, and so on.
As time goes on, more and more shows become classics. If you still want to watch the older stuff, there's always TV Land.

It's probably due to the fact that the presence of TV Land has made Nick at Nite pretty much useless. TV Land has become Boomerang, and Nick at Nite has become Cartoon Network.
It could also be for the reasons that Gryph said; Nick at Nite has to move with the times. N@N showed old black and white sitcoms when it started, but now that it's the 21st century, the 80s and early 90s shows are technically considered "classic", so it's still classic TV, just from another era.

I first watched Nick at Nite the last few weeks before it's more-modern change and it had one of the greatest TV themes out there: "100% Unreality!" with great shows like The Beverly Hillbillies and The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Although it's hard to imagine now, The Cosby Show was not on Nick at Nite.
At the same time, TV Land was quite awesome very variable and cyclical schedules of classics such as Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes, Gomer Pyle, Star Trek: The Animated Series, and more. I used to enjoy every month reading pavanbadal's schedule updates on Sitcoms Online, a website much like Toon Zone, just about situation comedies...
...but then, something changed. N@N added 80s shows...and took on a more modern tone...I did enjoy Kids Say The Dardnest Things...but everything else...a big meh because The Cosby Show was already on TBS, WGN AND local syndication.
At the same time, TV Land started to freeze and kick off less widely syndicated classics in exchange for more common stuff like The Andy Griffith Show (a bona-fide classic, but on EVERYWHERE). It cut more for syndication, ditched the retromericials and pre-episode trivia bits.
Nick at Nite has now completely and totally jumped the shark for me. Except for the classic Funniest Home Videos (now gone), they show 90s and 00s shows. Friends and Home Improvement are coming and here respectively, as is some other 90s/00s show I can't remember now. They have their own reality shows and their unique identity is gone.
TV Land has gone bonkers. They show movies, reality shows, reruns of Extreme Makeover (!?!?!), and the same 7 shows practically for the past 2 years.
Sorry for the "oh noes wall of text," Nick at Nite is another example, I feel of the network sameness permeating nearly all TV channels that once set out to have a unique identity and specific purpose.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
What's the point of creating a channel if all you show is what everyone else is showing? You might as well not even give channels names and just assign numbers to them or something. When you give a channel the name "Cartoon Network" you make the viewer kind of assume that it would show cartoons. This whole thing thats going on is the equivalent of putting a urinal in a woman's bathroom because most of your customers are men. There's nothing preventing you, but do you really want to do it?
Man I have to make shorter posts.

Well, I don't know if I'd call The George Lopez Show a "classic." It's barely, what, two years old already? Not to mention it seemed like it only had any level of popularity during it's first season. I was rather surprised to see it announced as a new addition to Nick@Nite.

Regardless, they'd have more room for at least a few 60s if they would cut The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air down to an hour. Same with TV Land, they should cutdown on their marathons of Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Is it just because the shows they do feature involve little to no royalty. Could use some Mr Ed, Family Ties, Batman, Growing Pains.
I mean with the kid networks you have the excuse that your viewers have a low attention span, thus not minding the permanent marathons. But isn't our age group suppose to appreciate variety or quantity?

I remember when they used to show stuff like Dobie Gillis and Fernwood Tonight. If they want to depress people with four hours of Roseanne a night, like the were doing earlier this year when I was at my Grandma's, that's fine. But if they have such great stuff in their libraries its a shame not to show it once in a while.
Not much I can say that hasn't already been said. Nick at Nite just isn't a haven for classic TV anymore. Even TV Land is slowly losing it's identity, airing reality shows and the like. At least they still have several old TV classics on there. As long as they still have The Jeffersons and Three's Company, though, I'm happy.
I miss my Taxi, though. :(

It just went into syndication this year. It ended at the end of the last tv season after a 5 year run...actually ABC canned it and gave that caveman show it's time slot. Like you, I was rather surprised that N@N picked it up. It did get me to start watching it, though.

Five years? Wow, I didn't know it lasted that long. I didn't even know it was still on when I heard that it had been cancelled. The first season was hilarious, but I thought it started dropping off in quality mid-way through the second season and stopped watching.

I miss the days of "TV You Demand". Now it's been kicked out for ABC Family-esque crap. I also miss the retromercials on TV Land and the general retro feel on both channels.

At least they should air Extreme Makeover Home Edition over there and not on TV Land.

The only show that I watch now on Nick At Nite is Home Improvement, only because they took it off TBS run. I thought they switched Home Imporvement and Fresh Prince's blocks, but then I see Fresh Prince on BOTH NOW and Home Improvement only on Nick.....? I guess switching the two shows wasn't their purpose. But yea, no Lopez or Bel Air for me, just some good old Home Improvement :p

I think for awhile, after Home Improvement went to Nick@Nite, the TBS showing went from 3PM to 11AM. Has HI disappeared entirely from TBS now?
But yeah, that's all I watch on Nick@Nite, too. :)
