Whever I went into Slackers last year they usually didn't fuss about a disc that was lightly scratched but now they don't take anything thats not mint! I've looked at my games before trading in both in and out of light for scratches and theres usually none or a few minor ones. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't know what Slackers is, but Gamestop will take anything. Try snapping a disc in half and trading it to them; they'll sell it as a two-for-one sale.

Anyone else have this problem?could be because the buyer's market freaks when they see a scratch on a disk. last time i bought a game from a used game store was final fantasy 9. i unfortunately did not look at the disks right after purchase and by the time i got to the last disk, there was a pretty significant scratch which halted my progress with the game. outraged, i brought it back to the shop i bought it from but they said the most the could do was clean the disk for me

I don't know why, that's kind of silly of them to turn down all that profit. They should just buy a buffer machine.

Scratches are superficial more often than not anyway.

I bought Timesplitters 2 used and the disc looked fine, but the second time I tried to play it, it would never load.

It's probably a chip in the data ring then. That's when its useless.

I wish Hollywood Video would realize this so I can buy some stuff from them again. They do have quite a few gems from time to time.

Superficial, yes, but I know I'd rather have a non-scratched copy than one that looks like it was used as a coaster more than it was played.

But really, that's the price you pay for buying used, though. If you want a guaranteed, spanking pristine disc then you cough up the dough for a new edition.

I buy used games a lot so I know which stores in my area are more strict about scratch-free discs. I do think stores should only take discs as trade-ins when they have their original covers, though. It just bothers me when you see games that have no covers and no manual. Is anyone actually gonna buy it then?

If it's 5-10 bucks, yes. There's always walkthroughs, and I rarely read the manual anyway.

Simple, because people like me will NOT buy a game if there is a single scratch on it, and if it is missing the box or manual.

Have you tried a Skip Doctor?

Have you tried a Skip Doctor?

I highly vote against that. The Dr is a p.o.s. I had one, and it never worked, and then made my discs unsellable. No store will even buy dr'ed discs.

I destroyed a couple Dreamcast games with a Skip Doctor, so I'd vote against it, too.

The thing that bothers me about the no case and manual thing is, at least at Gamestop, that they charge the same for games without them as they do for games that have them. Do they consider cases and manuals completely worthless?

You can get 10% off if you ask. At least that's what they're crappy generic covers say on them.

Yes, at a few Gamestops around me I've seen some of the games they accept (I've seen a few games that my friends gave them that were in questionable condition being accepted from them as well). I guess it all depends on where you go.

I think that actually refers to the 10 percent discount you can get if you have their card.

I never buy a used game if it doesn't have the original case. The manual I'll let slide, though I highly prefer the manual to be included as well.

But I generally don't get used games. The only times I get used games is when the game in question generally cannot be found new anymore without spending an arm and a leg.

It worked fine for me. I lent my friend Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and when it came back it was scratched to hell and wouldn't play. I tried to find another copy to replace it, but was unable to, but I saw the Skip Dr. and decided to try it. After using it I was able to play Tony Hawk 3 again, so I have no complaints. Are you sure you used it right? You put it on a flat surface and buffed it afterwards? Of course, that's the only time I actually used it on one of my discs, since I always try to keep them in excellent condition. I'm not sure why you'd be concerned about resale value. If the disc won't play I'd feel guilty selling it. The Skip Dr. either fixes the disc or it remains broke. There's really no loss in trying it if the disc is already broken.

1. You should have made your friend pay you for what it cost you.
2. You shouldn't have lent it out in the first place.

The only times I let my friends borrow my game discs is if I paid the $3 for GameStop's "insurance."
