I believe the first time we saw JH Irons was in the "protatype" episode of STAS. The next time he appered was in JLU episodes(as Steel) fighting in the background and in large groupes, but had no lines that I remember. Am I correct or did I miss episodes along the way.

Irons/Steel was also featured in the STAS episode "Heavy Metal" where he and his niece(?) helped Superman beat Metallo as Steel. If memory serves he also took quite a beating from Metallo...though not quite as bad as the one he got from Galatea in JLU (I think it was "Panic in the Sky").

I believe "Heavy Metal" was Steel's 1st debut into the Timm Universe of DC toons.

Robotron is correct about JHI's first appearance as Steel. He was in several JLU episodes although not all had speaking roles. Most notably is the one where Galatea beats the crap out of him of course and "The Return" when Amazo came back to Earth and pretty much beat everyone he came into contact with.

In the JLU episode "Panic In The Sky", Steel has a few lines in a scene.
After 6 of the original 7 turn themselves in to the government, Steel cheers up Supergirl.
This scene takes place on the Watchtower before the Cadimus attack.
Great episode! Great Character!

Steel was the only one of the four "replacement Supermen" from The Death and Return of Superman to be depicted in the DCAU. The other 3 were The Cyborg, The Eradicator and Superboy. Of course, his back story had to be revised so as not to include Superman's death at the hands of Doomsday and all. Pity, I would have liked to have seen how Timm/Dini would have handled Conner.
