Anyone else miss this great Marvel title. I think this title could be brought back successfully, and done in the same vein as Ultimate Team-Up with creators never associated with Marvel. Granted, Marvel has Startling Stories now, but who wouldn't want to see this title return?

what if provided some of the best tales in the marvel universe-- but also some of the worst and least thought out

if done correctly this title would be AWESOME to bring back with the new management etc!!

one of my all time early favorite what if stories was "What if SPIDERMAN'S CLONE HAD LIVED??"

tee hee looks like they forgot it was only a what-if issue!!

LOL! Maybe that issue was the ijspriation for the Clone Saga! :)

There were some great ones. One that I remember was what is Spider-Man continued to mutate (remember when he had the 6 arms). Man, that was a good title. One of the few books where the rotating creative team ideas worked.

oh yeah

one cool couple of issues was WHAT IF PROFFESOR X HAD FOUND THE GEM OF CYTORAK (it what made Juggernaut!!)

it was pretty sweet

I really hope this series comes back. The original run was the best ever.

I vaguely remember "What if Spiderman kept his cosmic powers" I think it was good, but it was so long ago.

Yeah, when it was good, it was a very interesting book. I have the "Best Of What If" TPB. The cool thing about it was, they could do stories in what I felt was a more realistic way. The good guy could lose or even die in a What If. Near the end of the last series I drifted away from it because it looked like the quality was dive-bombing, but other than those issues it was pretty cool.

With DC's Elseworlds and "What If Stan Lee Created..." series going on, I'm surprised that they don't at least do some What If specials.

Edit: I have the Spidey Cosmic Powers issue and yes, that was a good one. :)

I don't know anything about that book. It's "what if" in nature? Tell me more! I see a new creative team is taking over with issue 12, with Judd Winick as the writer.

I don't read Exiles, but I've heard I should. I think the deal is that they bop around to parallel universes, where things played out differently. Memphis could probably tell you more.
What If? used to be great. The second series kinda turned into Marvel amateur night, with really weak art. I think another problem is that as a series it only appealed to fans of the Marvel Universe and continuity. Hard to get a new reader to pick it up. I remember one joke issue from way back...What if Aunt May fought Galactus!
Anybody remember the humor title What The?

Exiles has really been a shockingly good book for me. I picked it up on a whim and it made my monthly pick up list now.

What if marvel killed a character....and they stayed dead?

Now that is one book I would have to buy.

The issue that you are thinking of where Aunt May became a herald of Galactus was not a What If issue, but an issue of Marvel Team Up during Assisitant Editors Month. Heckuva a lot of funny comics got made that month. Dang, I miss Jim Shooter as EIC. He was always letting them do the greatest things with the comics. They are great now, but take them selves WAY too seriously. At any rate, I think that if there was any trade paper back I want to see Marvel do, it would be one collecting all the fun Assistant Editors Month comics. I don't have many. I do have the one where the Avengers are on David Letterman, tho.

What The? was cool, but my absolute favorite humor title they put out was Crazy magazine. I still miss that magazine. I felt so sad when they cancelled that title, and I still keep hoping they will bring it back.

I think I will start picking up Exiles with issue 12. With a new creative team coming on board, that might be a great place for new readers to start.

I think that was actually a Marvel Team-Up. I remember a label on the cover saying something like "Not a What-If, Not an Imaginary Story!" and then at the end it turned out to be a dream of someone...Stan Lee, I think. And they said "Like we told you, not a What-If, Not an Imaginary Story..." :D That was a great issue though. They solved Galactus's hunger problem with Twinkies, discovering that they were a better energy source than planets! That was made during the Assistant Editors' Month, when they did wacky stuff to many of the titles. The Avengers were on Letterman's show for example. I thought that was a kinda cool stunt, though I wasn't around when it happened and had to discover it thru back issues.

There were a couple of humor issues of What If? though...They were the same issue number in both series. I think they were both about #34.

I have several issues of What Th--?! also.

Exiles is book published by Marvel that centers around Blink from the Age of Apocaplyse (AOA). John Proudstar from a parallel universe where he was one of Apocaplyse's four horsemen. Another Exile is Noncuturne, the daughter of Nightcrawler from another parallel universe. Magnus, the son of Magneto and Rogue is from another parallel universe but he has already die in issue three. Morph, is from another parallel universe but he resemble the morph from AOA. Then there is Mimic from another parallel universe where leads the X-men. Then there is Sunfire from another parallel universe, but this Sunfire happen to be Lady Mariko. Lady Mariko happen to be Wolverine's dead finacee in regular marvel universe. They were all brought together by the timekeeper. The timekeeper gives them missions to complete to right the wrong on various alternate realities. If they failed in thier mission something bad will happen to their love ones or them. For example if the exiles failed at one of their mission Noncuturne's father Nightcrawler will die. The X-men that Mimic leads will be destroyed. Blink will be throw into limbo. John Proudstar will be sent back to his reality to torture by Apocaplyse. So far the Exiles have stopped Charles Xavier from destroying the world. The Exiles have stopped Phoenix from destroying a reality. The Exiles help Alpha Flight capture the Hulk. The Exiles are currently on an earth where the Skrulls captured the earth in the late 1800s and when mutants appeared they were rounded up and forced to fight in gladiator games. I hope this give you a clearer picture of Exiles. It's a really great book!
