It's very rare an Adult Swim series comes up that completley sneaks up on you. Even when they fail to promote usually there'd be some info in it from the Adult Swim Upfront, or even Toonzone Itself. However this only got a few ads on AS before premiering itself, and it was only when the schedule updated yesterday that it was announced as a series. It's Xaiver, Renegade Angel and his series premiere (showing on the Fix now and Adult Swim Sunday on Midnight) "What Life D-D-Doth".
SYNOPSIS:
"Meet Xavier, a seeker/searcher man/beast who takes his spirit quest through Connecticut. When a town is infected by a mysterious virus, Xaiver must use his healing skills to save him and his brainbilliest to stump an evil computer. What doth Xaiver?"
REVIEW:
Okay so some snake hand guy rambaling on something about life, destiny and sort of infecting town with computer virus falls in love, tells his confusing life story and quest, sees his past self and uses the power of ripping bits and music to kind of save the day but then destroy it again, all in what looks like some kind of weirdly animated World Or Warcraft like animation? It's uh different anyway. And it is better then Stiff. But truthfully it's more confusing then really enjoyable. There were a couple of good laughs (mainly Xaiver saying the girl could be the beast and the guy talking about his Male Platonatle best friend) but nothing that I would really think should be a series. I mean it's kind of weird of AS to spring this as a series for us out of the blue but hey AS has done a lot of weird stuff... but not like this.
Enjoy Everyone!
This is PFFR we're talking about here. Have you seen Wonder Showzen? If you haven't, get volume one and start cracking. This is their turf, and it shows with every drop of dialog (it sounds a lot like Chauncy's blog on some moments). I thought the episode was hysterical, basically everything that was going on was just something so different that I really wanted to see a few more episodes after this.
This episode also reminded me of all the shorts on WS too... it definitely had that weird cartoon feel the shorts also had. And the computer generated style gives riffs of Reboot, but it's better. I liked the tongue licking, the sniffing during dialog, and the flashback to him having a flashforward in the fire. Also, the ending made me do a double take, which was even funnier once I realized what happened. How could you not like an Indian slicing a rainbow open to prove that he has balls?
I bet Adult Swim scooped this series up as fast as they could in order to get PFFR on their team, which might explain the out-of-nowhere vibe we all got from this.
A, definitely an A.

that... was horrible. i get that it's supposed to be making fun of existentialism bs, but this just didn't work at all. not only was the humor really dry, but that is the worst cg art i have ever seen. it's like watching some kid's college project from 1991. i just can't see this being an entire series.

I love Wonder Showzen
I hate this

I felt it to be quite boring. The main character's rambling became increasingly boring and aggrivating, and the animation also is not very good. I'll give it another chance, but that's it..

I could not stop laughing at this. Every bit of it was pure PFFR brilliance.

I got a kick out of the crack/aids joke and how he kept jumping through windows, but aside from that and a few quips the dude said it was pretty boring.

Is this show animated with a game engine? It looks really bad.

It sure looks like it, and that's probably the point.

I give up. What doth life?
"Open unquenchable cans of philosophical thirstworms." Spoken like a...urh, poet.
Foreshadowing truck drives by.
Chickenman speaks volumes.
Makes a good argument against photorealistic CG animation.
No. Monkeys flipping lids in the mind's soup kitchen makes you quotable.
Euugh. Matrix loogie.
"Just like Beauty and the Beast. ...will you be my beast?"
Music soothes the beast's savagification.
Has potential, but it's no Wonder Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-Showze-
okay WTF @ the end. I think I am gonna puke

I think I'm going to like this show. I'm glad to see that AS isn't shying away from surreal humor.

I was intrigued enough to keep watching, It was definitely an odd thing to watch tho. At points I questioned if it was some sort of odd-ass SIMS meets Reboot on crack.

When I first saw the commercials I didn't care much about this show. Then when I heard the makers of "Wonder Showzen" were making this show my interest jumped immediately. "Wonder Showzen" is THE most over the top satire show EVER made. "South Park" or "Family Guy". "TV Funhouse" or "Drawn Together"; no other show has been as bold in showing very offensive subject matter, and has had thought provoking ideas to back up the shock. So I was intriguing as to what they would do for this show.
I liked the first episode, mainly because of the strength of the lead character's personality. Xavier is a pointed parody of the self-centeredness you find in New Age cliches about "finding yourself". I thought his dialogue was poetically written, and I empathized with characters like that girl who were just flabberghasted by Xavier's arrogance. Xavier reminds me of Inspector Gadget, actually; both characters are convinced of their own genius and will go on about their genius forever, while being totally oblivious to reality.
Actually, this episode struck me as tame for the "Wonder Showzen" makers. Not all that much grossout. Good New Age satire, but I'm not into that scene myself.
I'm lukewarm to the artistic style. They seem to be purposefully making the show look like no-budget CGI animation, like what an amateur using poser would make. So the show's often too ugly to look at. I really long for the elaborate animation that may of WS's segments had. But I did like their version of how the virus affected people, making them all geometric.

The blocky animtion reminded me of that Dire Straits Video, not sure if that's a good thing...My lord that video was ahead of it's time!
Kudos on Reeboot, I haven't thought about that show for AGES :p
I like the fact all the AS shows have a slightly different pace and style, but a common thread of humour and a huge range of animation styles, it's what makes it's such an interesting watch.

No idea what Wonder Showzen is, and frankly if it's like this I don't want to know. It's like a 3D 12 Oz Mouse (in the bad way). Terrible art and a lack of humor in what is ostensibly a comedy.
On the one hand, we've got some of the very worst CGI I've ever seen. I have to hope that it's intentionally bad, because otherwise that would suggest that somebody thought this was competent work. On the other, dialogue that thinks it's a lot funnier than it actually is. No examples come to mind, because none of the dialogue was even interesting enough to remember.
Easily the worst premiere since... well, 12 Oz. Mouse.

I'm so tired of people comparing crap like this to 12 Oz. Mouse. 12OZMO was a good show with a loyal fanbase. It's nothing like this insipid waste of airspace.

Actually it's pretty much exactly like 12 oz Mouse. It might not be as good (hard to say after 1 episode), but the intent and execution are virtually the same thing. Intentionally poorly produced, nonsensical on the surface, surrealistic, but with a driving and humorous undertone that makes you think there's something more going on. Not to mention that people seem to both love and hate it about equally.
I remember not liking 12 oz Mouse when it first premiered. I'm not going to make that mistake again. You might be wise to do the same.
The best part was how the last word of every line he spoke ended with an echo, like it's some perpetual deep monologue. Also: "Check this out."

Also: "Check this out."
I was on the fence about whether I liked this show or not until this part rolled around ... and it basically sealed the deal. Can't wait for next week's episode.

My TiVo picked this odd little show up in my absence. I can't imagine why since it's like nothing I've ever seen before. This show makes Tim & Eric look normal...no, that's not true, nothing could make Tim & Eric look normal.
Anyways, despite being completely bizarre, Xavier has some really funny, quotable lines. Actually, the visuals were good, too, like the part when Xavier is telling his life story and the visuals are a bit different than his narration.
I'm not sure what their smokin' when they make this show but it is entertaining so far.
Later, chompsky-honks!
