A strong opening for the newest installment in the 'Saw' series. Saw IV debuted in first place with $32.1 million. For comparison, Saw III last October opened to $33.6 million. Saw II a year before that opened to $31.7 million. And the first Saw opened to $18.2 million.

Opening in second place was Dan in Real Life with $12 million.

Dropping two spots to third was 30 Days of Night with $6.7 million and a $27.3 million total. It's almost made it's $30 million budget back. There is still a chance they might do a sequel.

The Game Plan comes in fourth with $6.2 million and a $77 million total.

And rounding out the top 5 is Why Did I Get Married with $5.7 million and a $47.3 million total.

Out of the top 12 this weekend is Across the Universe (14th), and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (15th).

Starring are the voices of Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Alan Arkin, and Patrick Warburton.

other than that, What is Bee Movie about? All I know is Jerry Sienfeld is a Bee, and he meets this lady, and the world seems to be scared of Bees a lot. Seriosuly, these trailers don't say anthing abotu the mvoie, other than Jerry Sienfled is in a CGI Movie, Are you smothered by the every .5 a second ads yet? Did we mention all of out sponsers such as HP and McDonals yet?

The movie is basically a love story between a bee and a human, and how awkward one would expect that to be. If there's anything else in the A-plot, then they're certainly doing a bad job of explaining it in the previews.

As much as I love Steve Carell, I have no desire to see Dan. If it's an hour and a half of him acting like a jerk, I'd rather watch a character I love to hate, like Jack Nicholson in As Good as it Gets.

I thought the A-Plot was Bees suing humans for stealing honey...which, is why I'm completely surprised by the insane commercials which show none of that. I never heard anything about a love story before...

Not surprised despite how badly Saw IV sucked. With that said, next week is all on American Gangster and I plan to see it.

As much I have zero interest in the over-exposed Saw franchise, I'm glad to see it at the top burying Dan In Real Life. Hopefully, this will help the message to Hollywood that Steve Carrell is an overrated talentless waste who cannot and should not be allowed to carry a film, or even be doing anything in them in the first place.

As for Bee Movie next week, I'm hoping to a catch the latest show possible on a school night to avoid as many kids as possible, and I suspect (thanks to the creative genius of Jerry Seinfeld and his writing partners and their unique sense of humor) it will easily own just about all other CGI movies of the past few years.

Are you cereal? I didn't think they were taking it THAT far. I thought they were supposed to be just friends. I hope I'm the one who's right...even Pixar would have a hard time pulling off a human/bee romance convincingly.

So I guess maybe I wasn't shown a proper representation of the movie. The Dreamworks rep that came to my school didn't say anything about honey or lawsuits to my recollection, just that it was the brainchild of Jerry Seinfeld.

And when I said "love story" I TOTALLY did not mean to imply they were going to take it all the way or anything. That wouldn't even be possible.

Also, I'm predicting Martian Child doesn't even make the top 10 or barely breaks into it. This is the first time I've even heard of it. I've seen no ads, no publicity, nothing at all. It makes me wonder if companies just figure that people will go see a movie since it's new if they're not even trying to advertise anymore.

Other than that, What is Bee Movie about?

I agree that the commericals for Bee Movie, don't really tell anything about the plot but here's a plot summary I found on Comingsoon.net:

Plot Summary: "Bee Movie" is a comedy that will change everything you think you know about bees. Having just graduated from college, a bee by the name of Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) finds himself disillusioned with the prospect of having only one career choice – honey. As he ventures outside of the hive for the first time, he breaks one of the cardinal rules of the bee world and talks to a human, a New York City florist named Vanessa (Renée Zellweger). He is shocked to discover that the humans have been stealing and eating the bees' honey for centuries, and ultimately realizes that his true calling in life is to set the world right by suing the human race for stealing their precious honey.

I heard Bee Movie is pretty much just a balls out screwball comedy with very little heart or emotional center to slow it down.

Sounds good to me.

1. Steve Carrel was brilliant in Little Miss Sunshine.

2. Bee Movie looks good, but not quite as good as Ratatouille.

I'm a fan of the Saw movies and iffy about Saw IV, I'm still interested and eager to see what happens and to see if they can keep the movies going in a good direction. With that said, I'm glad to see Saw IV do just about what Saw III did in it's opening weekend, though I don't think it will have the staying power that Saw III had with movies like American Gangster and Bee Movie coming out next week. Hopefully it can hang in the top ten for awhile and make the money it needs to.

Sad to see 30 Days of Night drop to third. With Saw IV, American Gangster and Bee Movie next weekend, I fear it will be pushed down fast and far. Hopefully it stick around for a couple weeks before dropping out the top 10, I really would love to see the sequel Dark Days on the big screen.

Martin Child definatly places no higher than 6th, Saw 4 No lower than (Better than Dan in Real Life). Tyler Perry sand Game Plan still in Top 10, while Comebacks and We Own the Night Ain't

What? Huh? Of all the people to hate.... Steve Carrell? Really? The guy was in one of the most successful comedies of 2005 (40-year-old Virgin) and followed it up with one of the most successful comedies of 2006 (Little Miss Sunshine - which he was quite good in), was a Daily Show correspondant, stars in the very funny American Office, and then makes one bad movie. Is that all it takes to get an anti-fan base these days? What ever happened to picking on people who actually suck or are weirdos in real life, like John Travolta (guilty of both)?

In defense of the guy, I think he's great - he defies Hollywood stereotypes of what leading men should be, and that's cool with me. Just cause he's not a Bruce Willis-like action hero or a Denzel Washington-esque powerful leading man (who, by the way, is going to be AWESOME this week in AG, the movie I've been looking forward to the most for the fall) doesn't mean he doesn't have his good points.
