AHEM

Dub's Nifty Spiffy Eulogy for Fox Kids! ^_______^

ladies and gentlemen, I sit in my dormitory room and I watch the tattered remains of the once great empire of Fox Kids. Fox Kids lived to a ripe old age where it became cranky, ornery and overall just not any good at all. Fox Kids started mild in its years not having done much with its life, but was known quite often in the community for taking overseas orphaned Sentai children under its wing. Renaming these disturbing beings of Humanity "Power Rangers" fox Kids raised these freakish giant robot Sentai children to be the head of its empire. The first set known among the Neighborhood kids as "Mighty Morphin" produced over 220 memorable quips and episodes and fought valiantly to protect the its citizens from badly dubbed asian women actors who hurled magic wands to make thier monsters grow. After this teh creepily dubbed asian women married a man with its insides on the outside and they produced many more perversions of Sentai. (Fox Kids led a weird life to be sure)

But its life was not all Rangers and Rita. many cartoons graced its doorstep such as The Animaniacs (who often made fun of thier hosts ineptitude, the ungrateful brat children that they were :D ), and Batman and Robin (who left the show early when Robin began to lay eggs much to the dismay of Fox Kids executives). And let us not forget Goosebumps...no one really cared about goosebumps and the poor child left Fox kids never to be seen again. Rumor has it that his original father R.L. Stine ditched his child for a more sophistiicated ire of stupid teeny bopper horror books.

After a while Fox Kids let the Mighty Morphins go and sent them on thier way. They changed personalities many times, suffering many identity crisis at the hands of thier father, the malicious Haim Saban, and have currently gone wild (i.e. PLUM LOCO)

After Fox Kids became infested with a disease of odd bugs called Digimon, it was all over. Fox Kids died at a ripe merry old age and is succeeded by its red headed stepchild 4 Kids who shall carry on its legacy.

In short Fox Kids lived like a dog and he died like a dog :p

And thus conluding my eulogy I say to you all - "MAGIC WAND: MAKE MY MONSTER GROW !!!!!!!!"

**grows to the size of a large building, stomps the coffin, and cackles away madly**

Gawd I'm bored......that was so wrong of me....I think I'll go watch an ep of Transformers now to ease my pain. Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo. ^_________^

**dont mind me, I'm feeling stupid ^__^**

To me Fox Kids died a long time ago when they cancelled good, quality shows in favor of cheap, junk anime. I like anime but did they really need to have a triple showing of Digimon every Saturday? RIP Fox Kids of old - you've been dead to me since Spidey Unlimited, Xyber 9, the Magician, and Godzilla all left your once great shores - leaving your isle barren of anything resembling good.

'Stake in coffin'

You made your own fate Fox Kids, now stay dead and stop terrorizing fans of shows that you used to air.

Come on, now.

Fox has sucked even before the pet monster craze hit the shores. The last time something genuinely good aired on Fox Kids was the Tick and Spider-Man (first 3 seasons, that is).

Well, Cybersix was okay...

LLJ is correct. The block went down after series like "Spiderman" ended. It's been a long time coming for Fox Kids.

I agree. This death has been a long time coming. The final nail in the coffin was when it resorted to Poke-rip offs to compete. That, and cancelling shows that Pokemon was competiing with in various timeslots. BIG GUY and SPIDEY UNLIMITED got shafted (though were thankfully brought back) just becuase they didn't match POKEMON's ratings. Gimme a break.

i miss big guy--- even if every time it was on I thought for once we had MIB (same style of animation) hehe.

It was a pretty good show. I still couldnt help imagine bobby hill from king of the hill instead of Rusty whenever I heard the voice lol.

Fox kids use to rock with TTA, A!, Sam&Max, Big Guy and Monster Rancher was pretty cool too. You know I always thought KWB would go before Fox Kids.

Obituary for Fox Kids

*Climbs on potium, organ music playing. Drops a drape onto the coffin*

We come here to celebrate the short, sweet and fast moving life of this institution. It was a good TV Line-Up, it was born in 1990 to a small TV Network. It started life in humble manners, but at the time, Tiny Toons came on and the Humble little thang gained life. In 1993 The Animaniacs and Power Rangers expanded this little thing into a big deal.

(Walks up to the podium....)

I'll keep it brief: Started off sort of lame....I mean, "Tom and Jerry *KIDS*?!"...then rose to greatness with Batman, A!, Taz-Mania, Beetlejuice, and picking up TTA from syndication (sounds of the younger, 90's-raised members of this board muttering "syndication? What's that?" and "since when were cartoons ever *syndicated*?!")(Frowning) *Ahem*.... *anyway*, after this, the WB started up, and they sucked away all their WB-made shows....then Spider-Man ended, and with its departure, came the cruddy anime-onslaught. Quite frankly, I'm not much of an anime fan, I admit...seeing characters with eyes enormous and saucer-like enough to resemble Buddy's never did much for me... (sounds of the anime-fans on the board getting annoyed), but anyway, still doesn't explain *why* we needed *digital* monsters---didn't realize the old-fashioned *analog* kind I grew up with were somehow obsolete. Anyway, soon after this, KWB, with its Poke-onslaught, easily defeated Fox Kids, sending the weekday afternoon lineup packing, to be replaced by local FOX affiliates by... (checks his local affiliates' schedule) ah, yes: Maury Povich, Seventh Heaven, and Jenny Jones. Apparently, my affiliate decided that stuff like "my boyfriend cheated on *both* his other girlfriends" is OK to put on at 3 PM against "Pokemon"... but anyway, eventually came the death blow: 4Kids buys out Fox Kids, and is set to reprogram its ailing Sat. morning lineup. Meaning lots of shows similar to that "Yu-Gi-Oh" thingamajig, I figure... (muttering) "Yu-Gi-Oh"...sounds like a second-rate imported automobile... (shakes his head) Anyway, looks like for next fall, with Discovery Channel programming NBC and CBS still airing "Blue's Clues"-type stuff, that leaves Kids' WB (Holds up a picture of Scooby), or ABC's all-Disney, all-the-time lineup (holds up a picture of "Teamo Supremo"; looks at it, then tears it up and throws it away). Anyway, I'm done... (hears whispering off-stage) Yeah, so this *wasn't* brief.... (shrugs, and walks off)

TaTa to Fox Kids!

I come here as a long time viewer, witnessing the evolution of the block from a block full of weird shows to a golden age of animation to succumbing to a viral mix of bad politics and foreign bodies.

I don't want to dwell on the final days. Afterall, there were so many factors that led to its demise. Instead, I want to reflect on the good times.

Fox Kids was the K-Beast's first child, one that he left behind in good hands with its mother, Margaret Loeche, formed in the spring of 1990 before coming to life that fall. The block had some awkward phases with weird shows like Pigsburg Pigs, Zazoo U., Little Shop, and very ambitious shows like Peter Pan and the Pirates. Fox Kids actually brought the animation studio of Warner Bros. back to life by not only placing Tiny Toons on their lineup, but by also allowing the creation of other fine programming, including TazMania, Batman: The Animated Series, and Animaniacs. Fox Kids also knew how to let the creative mind behind the Press Your Luck Whammys and One Crazy Summer, Savage Steve Holland, let loose with Eek! The Cat, gave Marvel Comics a new home to spotlight their creations Spider-Man and X-Men, and made Haim Saban's name famous with the Power Rangers franchise. Fox Kids also gave the independant comic creators have a voice on their network with The Tick, Sam and Max, The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot, and Cybersix, not to mention greenlighting miniseries like Red Planet and Dark Water.

Alas, after mother Margaret left, Fox Kids fell into hard times, particularly under the thumbprint of Saban, with a lot of outside shows disappearing and more Saban-made shows cluttering the block. Of course, following the lead of the K-Beast's acquisition of Pokemon, Fox Kids followed with Digimon, a series with a better plot but not a lot of fan support in the mass market. Ill-fated acquisitions like The Family Channel, and ill-fated projects like bChannel and gChannel also led to the premature demise. After the latter two networks bombed miserably, the two Fox Family outlets (Fox Kids and Fox Family Channel) took the ill-conceived genderizations. Growing disapproval by affiliates, News Corps' dream of owning DirecTV, and Saban's willingness to get out of the network with a profit were the final gasps of the Fox Kids Network, dying the moment Fox Family Worldwide was bought by Disney.

So, today, I'm mourning the network that was, not the husk that it became. So long Fox Kids. It's been real.

I remeber watching back when Tiny Toons and B:TAS were just starting up. Sigh. Good times. You know, despite all the Saban muck, there was a lot of good stuff that made it through. Carmen Sandiego, Peter Pan and the Pirates, Young Hercules. . . heck, even Goosebumps led to the revival of Eerie, Indiana for one last hurrah. All in all, the lumps really weren't that bad. I'll be sad to see them go.

Of course, as everyone seems to forget, the first year or two of TTA were in syndication, not on Fox...though in my town, the Fox affiliate got to air the series (and in another town nearby, a mostly-religious station picked up the show, and soon got letters written to the newspaper editor on the "witchcraft promotion" of Shirley the Loon...).

Syndication? What's that?;)

Our local (Chicago) Fox station had TTA. Before it was conformed to Fox Kids format, they had Rich Koz(Son of Svengoolie) hosting the broadcast (not in Svengoolie charater)of TTA and whatever other shows they had.

Egad, that was a while ago already!
Where does the time go? Poit.

Never did get to see it. . .

Damnation. I hate doing that. Read so many books and you tend to forget authors.

That's a very understandable error, since Ray Bradbury did author 'The Martian Chronicles.'

It was born. It floundered, then found its way by helping nurture the rebirth of Warner Bros. Animation, along with other inspired gems such as Spiderman and The Tick. Then power went to Saban's head, and he filled the network with dozens of crap mutations of Power Rangers. Though he left, the net never found its former glory, and even now only shows occasional glimmers of quality, such as in Ripping Friends. If a suitable heir can't be found for the toon empire, then I say bury the darn thing and be done with it.

I'm actually GLAD that FOX Krap shut down. The death of this block called for the end of DigiMon (airing a poorly-made clone of a worn-out fad isn't a smart move), the list of good anime being totally butchered to death (Curse you, Saban! I'm glad Disney bought you guys out, because now your reign of terror is over! Fear the wrath of Michael Eisner like ABC does, mother f***ers! Bwa ha ha ha!), and, the worst of the worst, Power Retards. (It's about TIME someone put in end to their madness!)

Yes, I know this is late (actually, I know this is REALLY late), but I might as well speak my mind anyway, since I wasn't exactly a part of the boards yet when this one was created.

*melodrama warning*

Screw Fox Kids! They raped and destoryed some of the best shows of my Youth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARG *rage, bitter snarl*

Now KidsWB looks to be doing the same. Why must all Leaders be CORRUPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*sigh* I'm carrying a torch for Big Guy and Rusty and hoping beyond all reasonable hope that KidsWB will pick it up, air the 26 eps just long enough for me to tape them and then put it back in it's grave. That show friends had potential! It was smart and fun, mocking ever ounce of propaganda bull to come from our country, it was a social commentary on where America is going, and it still managed to entertain on a childlike level so kids could enjoy it. Blast it all to hell I am enraged! At Fox Kids, at Sony animation for again taunting me with righteous cartoony forbidden fruit and then yanking it away like some yanking away thing! Columbia/Tristar!!!!! WHY DO YOU TAUNT ME SO!!!!!!

*sob* Like the filthy street pusher they have sampled me into poverty and now laugh as I die from withdrawl.

I won't post a eulogy for Fox Kids until August, which is the last month of programming for them. They have given me good times, and a reason to watch tv after the headaches of school. Sure you can bemoan the monster shows, curse Saban and his Power Rangers, and get pissed over shows that had potential that never made it because of low ratings, but think about so much the block has given us, with many of the shows continuing to air today, nearly ten years after their inception.

Remember, it is not the way something dies that leaves its memory, but the way it lived that leaves its legacy. And your legacy will live on through my collection of over 100 tapes :D
