View Full Version : So that's where all the Mattel stuff went...

Seems all the unsold Shonen Jump Mattel toys have been sold to the regular UK overstock stores. I've seen Shaman King figures and the talking, stretching Luffy is going for Ł5.

A bunch of that stuff should be going into a landfill because IIRC a good number of the Jump toys were included in the Mattel lead paint recall.

I thought British children had a superhuman-level tolerance for lead? Or did I misinterpret something?

To be honest, you'd be hard pressed to spot any brain damage vs the standard person over here :p

I think your mistaking lead for mercury. It's the Spanish who got a superhuman-level tolerance for lead.

Shouldn't they be ground up first like E.T. cartridges? :)

You know, I would find it absolutely hilarious if one of the chief causes of the Mattel One Piece toyline failure was the result of my thread here on ToonZone. :D

I thought the Zoro was recalled because of the magnites.

The Shaman King and One Piece lines are why I hate Mattel. They phoned in terrible toys, charged a bundle for them, no one distributed them, and they wonder where they went wrong. Most of the likenesses were way off, they were fixed into one pose, and they didn't really do anything. I still bought them, but after they were on clearance. I got all the One Piece action figures for a buck at Dollar Tree. And they were barely worth that.

I really hope Jakks Pacific gets the license to One Piece- not holding out hope, though.

The only halfway decent One Piece figure was the Zoro one that got recalled cuz of the magnets.

That' stretch Luffy would've been epic had it been Luffy-as-stretch armstrong. No silly sound effects (and wiring that hinders the stretching) or suctioncup hands (WTF mattel!?)

With the Zoro recall does that mean Mattel is still manufacturing that first line of toys even after 4kids dropped the series?

I'm not so sure about Jakks Pacific. It seemed like all they did with the Dragon Ball Z license was repackage the Irwin toys. Toynami is doing a line for Naruto, Futurama, and Bleach and I think they'd make good models for the main characters.

What we need on this side of the pacific is some decent gashapons!

Alot of stores over here have Tomy ones, selling Hello Kitty, Disney, etc. I've heard that some areas in London have the Bandai ones, including SD Gundam.

I've seen plenty of tiny capsule toys, but most of it is disney stuff (Winnie the Pooh mostly) and they are pretty small. I got lucky finding a Pokémon machine once and I got a tiny 'bobblehead' (and I use the term loosely) torchic.

But it's not a culture like it is in Japan with collectable, limited edition, chase figures, figures of different sizes and scales and with relatively good detail for their size.

Plus in Japan every anime serie worth its salt got gashapons, even those not on the air anymore :p

Correction: Repackaging the Irwin and original Japanese BanDai toys.... hint hint.

Too bad If Labs was just a short lived thing. I have their Dragon Ball Mai and It's an awesome figure.

Anyway, yeah. Zoro that was recalled was the only good toy in the line, plus they didn't even make an Usopp. not even one to go with the cannon, instead of Luufy (which doesn't make sense).

IMO, Mattel only did one good anime toy line (http://www.nathansmusclepage.com/) and even then, we didn't get the anime for it. And all they did was remold something in plastic, as opposed to rubber.

I'm dying for some decent One Piece stuff now that Funi's got the dub. Apparently T-shirts have surfaced, and that's it o far.

He's giant fist shoots out a smaller fist? Good god I hope the people in charge of that line got fired... out of a cannon.

You think the figure looks bad in the picture? Try seeing the actual figure up close with your own eyes at a toy store or con! It looks far worse in reality. :ack:

Heh heh, I think that's my first time being sigged ever.

I really wish I had saved that link to another Luffy toy I saw that makes the ones by Mattel look like the Megahouse POP series in comparison.

Probably not. i bet they're still working there telling them to make cheap breakable hip joints on all the Naturo toys.
