View Full Version : WiiWare
Thought the WiiWare needed a thread of its own now that we are starting to see titles announced.
So far the only WiiWare we've had was the Internet Channel which I use frequently not to surf the web but to watch flash video's on a TV. We got the Everyone Votes challenge that is semi amusing and apparently Nintendo is going to be taking input from it so its only getting better. The Metroid Prime video's were also semi interesting but now we are getting some much better WiiWare quite a few things were announced and some of them have screenshots:

Me and Chad both agreed that the Wii needed a Pokemon Channel to store Pokemon and a DS download station and both are going to happen now. I am pretty excited about both, heck this might open a GB VC in the future.
The Mii contest channel should be interesting, while I am not too great at making Mii's I'm going to love to take other peoples creation to my Wii. Also looking forward to the Bomberman game, hopefully its online, makes me feel better about the lack of more bomberman on the VC>

I'm looking forward to the Dr. Mario and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Wii Ware games that were announced. The demo channel is definitely one of the best additions thus far.
The new Mii Contest channel is now available and this is no "Everybody Votes" channel, I already played around with it for over half an hour and its amazing, who knew sharing Mii's and looking at other Mii's was so great!
Only downside is you can only see the first letter of their names, probably to filter "naughty" words... Just doing a search is so much fun. I spent so much time going through musical artists. And yeah while you do see a bunch of Michael Jacksons and other unoriginal Mii idea's they're easy to go through and its not a big hassle.
So far I'm liking it, aside from the fact that only initials can be displayed. Come on, Nintendo, I imagine it wouldn't be that hard to have some kind of language filter that blocks Miis out with swear words or racial slurs.
But yeah, I like it a lot. That's not to say it couldn't use a few improvements. It's not organized very well at all. It would make things a lot easier if Miis could be put into different categories like historical figures, celebrities, video games, cartoons, anime, etc. Not broad terms like "cooking" or "fighting". Those could be sub-categories within the other categories.
It would make looking through desired Miis MUCH easier.
Also, there should be a way to view the stats of all the Miis you've submitted without having to punch in that long number code to search of them.

On my first go-through I saw at least 5 Michael Jacksons. Why?
On my first go-through I saw at least 5 Michael Jacksons. Why?
Because Michael Jackson is apparently hilarious to make Miis of. People aren't very creative.
A better search would indeed be nice as well as the lack of just initials. But the way I see it is if I can recognize a Mii just by his looks and initials then that is a good Mii, if I can't then it might not even be worth downloading.
I already filled up my 50 max "favorite" list.. I isn't the max of Mii's you can have 100? I am going to easily fill that up thanks to this channel, I never thought I'd have that many Mii's. Looks like some are going to have to go to SD cards.
Some Mii's are very creative like Pacman and General Ackbar and Doraemon. Made me embarrassed of trying to upload my crappy Garfield mii ;D
I did upload Robert Smith from the Cure :D
I wonder if the contest winners will get a price like a downloadable game. I'm not going to try this one since everyone's Mario is better than mine.
And yeah, Michael Jackson, Hitler and Jesus are all Mii's everyone made, so I would think people would not upload such basic ideas.

The new Check Mii Out Channel is really lame. Who comes up with this stuff!? I could come up with better channels that is worth going back to.

I totally agree with both of you. I'm REALLY not sure what's behind the whole initials decision. I mean, in Mii Parade you see the whole name...and the Mii Artistan in Check Mii Out is there completly as well... So we know there's some kind of filtering or apporval process.
And not ONCE have I seen a Mii with an offensive name. So, basically all the initials do is kill a lot of potential this channel has. Basically, I can figure out that "P.Z." is Princess Zelda, and "D.V." Is Darth Vader and so forth... But what about all those Bizarre Miis? What's the joke behind THEIR names?
It discourages ME from making neat Miis because, of the naming process. If I make a Benny Hill Mii, nobody will know who he is unless they reconize his face and realize "B.H." means Benny Hill. So far I uploaded a Snoopy Mii and hope people realize who he is.
This channel has a LOT of potential. But right now, it's being wasted with a bad set-up. It's too bad the Nintendo forums on nintendo.com went down too. Hopefully somehow Nintendo will see this thread and others like it around the net, and make neccasary changes.

There are some REALLY creative Miis on there. I found Butt-Head, and L from Death Note. And what looks like a Koopa. Also, can anybody tell who that big furry looking Mii is, front row in the Popular section? Chewbacca or some such?
That's why I say this channel has a LOT of potential.

Maybe the initial thing is to avoid legal issues?
I've already logged hours in that channel, I don't understand why someone would not download it.
This is no Everybody Votes channel, that was kind of fun for a few minutes and its been mostly useless since then, at least for me those questions really do nothing. It has potential to be great if they make it more "user feedback" on what we want etc.
Now back to the Check Mii Out channel, there are tons of unique Mii's I'm getting close to filling up my quota of Mii's. There are some amazing ones like samus (with suit), Fox Mccloud, a Metroid, Um Jammer Lammy, master Chief, Venom, Peter Parker with Spidey mask half on (this one is amazing), Lilo, Mandy,. This channel is great, not just "potential" to be. Search for Mii's and see what you may find.

I don't disagree you with. It IS a good channel. I'm saying it has the potential to be SO much better. Flaws in the channel's set-up hold it back.
For example, I uploaded two Miis, one is a character Mii of Snoopy, the other is a regular Mii of Chimeraz. Now, Chimeraz's Mii, became more popular than my Snoopy Mii, in only a few hours, which I found interesting. That makes me wish there was some kind of Mii stat tracking deal. How many times they were clicked "I Like It!", how many times they were clicked "Import Mii", how they were found, etc.
I was curious to know if your newest posted Mii automatically becomes your "most popular". So, as an experiment, I posted another Mii, and then, IMMEDITALLY checked my own artistan info, and sure enough, my newest Mii, was my "most popular" which is vastly misleading. So the "Highest Ranked Mii" section in your artistan info is the TRUE report of your Most Popular Mii. Since mine has no data, that means nobody has either seen, or added my Miis... Which makes me wonder where my two stars came from...
"Call Friends" is an excellent move to find other Miis of that character you like better. However, a "Related" type thing would do wonders as well.
I did however look for that Um Jammer Lammy Mii you found.

Thought this news (http://kotaku.com/gaming/nintendo-wii/ds-demo-channel-goes-live-on-japanese-wiis-326746.php) deserved a bump-- those lucky Japanese Wii owners can now download DS demos via their Wii as part of the new "Everyone's Nintendo" channel (which also features downloadable Wii trailers). No word yet on when the new channel might be released in other territories, but at this point it's only a matter of time....
I can't wait to have that channel, downloading demo's from walmarts game section is very fun though I rarely do it, being able to do it from my home will be amazing.
Anyone been taking place in the submitting/judging on the check mii out channel? man some of the entries are horrible.
I was surprised by someone making an L Mii, but I agree. Lot of generic Mii's out there.
