These days, you can sure go to limits for your PC.

News Via Quick Jump: Andrei Smirnov, 10, jumped from the 19th floor of his apartment in Moscow after his parents decided to ban him from playing video games on his PC for bad conduct and poor school performance. Andrei's parents dropped the hammer when the boy's teacher revealed what he's been doing in school, reports Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.

Andrei tried to remove bad records on his name from the school diary written by his teacher, but his plan to prevent his folks from catching word of his undesirable attitude wasn't very successful. His parents wanted the computer to be off-limits after they discovered what he did, which led him to commit suicide.

On a more disheartening note, Director of Centre for Legal Psychological Assistance Mikhail Vinogradov believes children banned from playing video games could resolve to suicide since they don't know what consequences await.

Our condolences go to Andrei's family, with prayers hoping such tragedy doesn't happen again.

Christ, aren't there things in life more important than video games?

Edit by Bird Boy: Be a little more respectful, would you? The kids already dead.

It said it came from a tabloid, and you know what those are like...

Anyway, I actually doubt the accuracy of this, because tabloids can and will say anything to make news. Maybe he killed himself because of some other reason?...

Still, it is a sad thing when anyone takes their own life for any reason, and I too hope we never hear about something like this again.

Heh, there are so many things wrong with this story, it's hard to take it seriously.

However, giving it doubt, my regards.

But...something like this is somewhat major news, and the major news reporters like CNN or MSN do not show this. Then the word TABLOID kinda kills it.

wow. i'll prayer for him and his parents. you forget how irrational you were as a child.

I remember being mad at my dad once for cutting off my super Nintendo after I paused it to eat dinner when I had finally reached M. Bison on Street Fighter II. I told him I hated him and all this stuff. It's crazy but in the mind of children entertainment is everything.

It depends. Real tabloids are called that due to the size of the paper they're printed on. Several very reputable news sources fit into that category. From what I found, the source of this news is also reputable.

This is bad, but it's hard to show much sympathy for somebody who would kill themselves for videogames.

This part of the story could be misinterpreted in soo many ways. >_>

Anyways, my prayers go out to everyone involved.

Jack's got his own problems to worry about, and hopefully they cost him his license to practice law in Florida.

It's Pravda, not the Weekly World News. As far as Russian journalism goes, which is not too far as much as I've seen, it's, it's at least not usually totally made up.

This is really sad about this kid. I think it's probably true, that he didn't realize the consequences of his actions or think them through. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that video games are to blame for that, though.

With a paper named "Pravda", I guess it has to be true considering "Pravda" means "correct", "truth", or "accurate".

Sorry for shooting my mouth off earlier but I was just flabbergasted at the kid's actions. I'm sure his parents must really be going through a tough time right now.

There used to be two major Soviet newspapers, Pravda, which means truth, and Izvestia, which means news. The joke during Communism when the press was strictly controlled was that "there's no truth in Pravda and no news in Izvestia."

Yeah, I doubt having his computer priveleges banned was the sole reason. Besides, the kid was 10 years old. Kids that age can do really stupid things when they are upset. I agree, its a very tragic event.

Please don't tell me he's implying that the kid jumped because video games made him think he would survive. Besides, if that were true, why would he have jumped?

Think New York Post not New York Times.

Aw... come on. There are more important things to do yourself in over. Like when they give you a hamburger at McDonalds and you specifically asked for no Pickle, and they gave you a pickle anyway. Or because you lost the Tv remote, and are too lazy to look for it. Or because you realize you're wearing 2 completely different colored socks, and don't want to get embarassed.... :moon: :moon2:

But getting back on a serious note, sounds like this kid must have had deep rooted mental problems to do something like that. Banning him from the PC was only part of the solution. Maybe they needed to take him to a psycologist.
