Anyone notice on a Pup Named Scooby Doo, there was a lot of OOC or role reversals among Fred, Daphne, and Velma on their roles or jobs that they tradtional did on the classic pre Scrappy days.

Here is what I noticed.

1) Velma planned the traps. That is Fred's job. That is the most bladent breaking of the tration on the show. The other one's are more stuttle, that you really have to know the show to get. But everyone knows, Fred is the plan the trap guy.

2) Daphne was the skeptical one. Tradtional besides Scooby and Shaggy, she was the least skepical one. She was the most likely of the three to them, to say "Maybe this place is haunted". Velma was the most skeptical one. And it was a complete 180 from Daphne's attitude in the Zoombie Island movie.

3) Daphne always had the Scooby Snacks, and bribed Scooby and sometimes Shaggy with them. In the classic days, they rotated that job, most of the time it was one of the girls, Fred rarely played that role. I think Velma bribed Scooby and Shaggy with the Scooby Snacks the most. But I am not sure.

Yeah, Velma is smart, has been forever, we get that, but did you have to demean the guy so much? =\

Yeah I know, to me Fred was totally useless. On the old show, he was very important. He was the leader, the trap setter, and the driver. On Pup, I wonder why do they have him around?

On Pup, there was no van to drive, he didn't set the traps, and was in an ineffective leader. He was still the leader, but no one listened or respected him like they did when they were older, not even Scooby and Shaggy.

And another thing, on Pup, Velma was NEVER wrong on guessing who the person behind the mask was. On the classic shows, Velma was right most of the time, but she was wrong once in a while. That kind got on my nerves. But I give the writers the benefit of the doubt because the villains on Pup, were less scarry and more obvious on who they were.

But they could have at least let Fred set the traps, just because he was a paranoid conspiricy believing person, not a respective leader, and alway guessed the identity of the villain wrong, no reason he can't still set some effect traps. On the classic shows, he wasn't a genious to begin with, but didn't stop him from setting good traps. Most of the time Scooby or Scooby and Shaggy messed up the traps anyway. Though not as frequent as Scooby and Shaggy, Velma and Daphne would mess up the traps, Velma after losing her glasses, or Daphne would by leaning in to far.

I can't so much say he's stupid, as goofy and oblivious. Sort of like Inspector Gadget or Sherlock Hemlock. I feel Freddy Prinze Jr. made him extremely dumb in the films. I love that pointless rivalry between him and Red Herring. it's like he only acused him out of spite.

Apart from Velm's braininess, Velma and Daphne were evenly swapped in personality. The Kellie Martin voice and attitude was basically the classic Velma all the way; even better than all the other voices that took over after Nicole Jaffe. She was the one always saying "There's no such things as ghosts!", and Daphne sounds just like her saying that. Even the Christina Lange voice resembled the original Daphne in its sweetness and innocense, and having the least lines. And of course, Fred being made an idiot.
The gag was supposed to be those three characters growing up from being the opposite of what they were. Only the stars, Shaggy and Scooby were kept the same.

So there was a method to their madness? I just thought the writers of the show, just didn't have a clue (no pun intended) on what the characters were. I know the original writers of Pup were the same people that wrote the 13 Ghosts series, but I thought they just got the characters wrong. Remember 13 Ghosts didn't have the whole gang, plus Daphne had to play a different type of role in those seasons without Fred and Velma, so it is sort of like the only original memebers playing the same roles as in the classic days they had experience writing for on 13 Ghosts were Scooby and Shaggy.

I think the Velma on Pup is even more of a opposite to the current Velma, since the revival of the franchise in Zoombie Island, and especially since Mincy Cohen took over the role, now Velma is the most confrentational member of the group, she is the most likely one to get into an arguement with someone that is giving the group flack, and stands up for everyone. An opposite from that shy little girl.

Off topic, earlier we spoke of one of Fred's job is being the driver. I just thought of a good subplot for a future direct to video movie, and if the show was still on, an episode of What' New, and that is for Fred's driver license to expire or suspended, and the others have to drive, and they all have their flows driving.
