Variety today confirmed rumors that Charlie's Angels director McG has signed to develop and direct the next installment of Warner Bros. Pictures' Superman franchise, with "Felicity" and "Alias" creator J.J. Abrams on board to pen the script.

"Superman" will likely be McG's next film after "Charlie's Angels 2: Halo," which he is prepping to begin production this spring. That film is a summer tentpole for Columbia Pictures, which has scheduled a June 20, 2003 release.

Now that it is confirmed that McG will be directing the next installment of "Superman," what kind of story can we expect for the film?

Coming Attractions received word that "Warners is seeing a lighter, funnier 'McG'-style Superman, getting rid once and for all of the Death of Superman plot and all the Burton crap."
