pretty fun game so far. easy, but fun

EDIT: they made some improvements in this compared to wind waker. for example, salvaging for treasure is a sort of mini-game where you control the speed of the salvage arm and direction as it plummets into the ocean depths, all the while avoiding octorock bombs and cliffs

I like it! And the 2P WiFi Battle Mode is pretty nifty - Capture the Force Gems, is what it is.

I've been looking forward to this game for awhile. Probably won't be able to get my hands on it for a couple of months, but I'll be curious to hear what everyone elsle has to say about it.

This game's indeed really good. As you can do many things with the Stylus. Like the following;

- Direct the Boomerang's flight path
- Perform a Spin Attack etc...

Which is easier WW or this?

River26

From the video's I've seen on Youtube. It seems to be a more easier game. With the usual 9 dungeons. Though, not that easy. I'd say they're kind of at the same level.

coming from somebody who actually played the game, i'd say phantom hourglass is harder, though still easy

River26

@Falcon, yes I have played it and indeed it is hard. But not that harder than WW. You just need to work with the stylus to solve the various puzzles.

I beat the first dungeon tonight. The controls take some getting used to but, once you get over that hurdle its loads of fun. I also think its neat how they incoperated the use of the mic during the game.

River26
10-03-2007, 10:17 PM
Well, there's controls like directing the Boomerang's flight path, which goes along to defeating the first boss.

Yeah, there's lots of things you can do with sequel that make it more better than WW.

they're going all out on this game using everything the ds has to offer. for example...

in order to get the sun key, you have to find the map that locates the crest of courage, then open up your sea map so that your sea map is on the bottom screen and your crest map is on top. then what do you do? you close the system up and the reopen it to transpose the crest, of course! ...awesome

^^; Wow, they sure indeed put more emphasis on this Zelda sequel this time around. But in a cool way.

Tanooki
10-04-2007, 09:35 AM
more emphasis how?

as in coinciding with the functionality of the system? i believe the other titles did a pretty good job with the systems they were on. the most fun to play zelda title, for me, was twilight princess on the wii

as in the story/plot? you can't really argue that one zelda has a better overall story than another since they all have different stories or plots to follow

guess i don't know where you're coming from on that statement

River26

Emphasis as in; you need to do more, in order to solve the puzzles with the stylus. Whereas in Wii's T.P you would just solve that particular puzzle and the door would open or a treasure would appear.

same things happen when you solve puzzles in this game. what's your point?

EDIT: those bomb chucking one-eyed ogres are back from "link to the past"!

and holy crap! FIRE SWORD!

This game is OUTSTANDING! I LOVE the story, and the characters so far. Linebeck is hilarious. The way he shook Link when he first met him. To the point of dizziness even. A dizzy Link triumphently holding up the item Linebeck just gave him was priceless.

I'm making good progress. I'm enjoying the nostalgic use of Ocarana of Time music, both in the main game and in the online battle.

Speaking of online mode, anybody here Rank G yet?

I think his point is the puzzle solving in this game is even MORE innovative than Twilight Princess. You need to consider more options than ever for Phantom Hourglass. The same results occur, yes, but getting there is diffrent.

For example... Having to map out The Golden Frog Chief's Island to help solve the riddle.

just beat it. absolutely loved this game. the story was great, not to mention this was probably the funniest of the zelda titles. i don't actually believe the zelda games should be funny, but for some reason this worked

the all out stylus controls took some getting used to, but after a while, it was like second nature. the only real problem i had was switching between items during a fight. while picking a different item, it left me open for attack

the different spirit abilities were a nice touch. i plan on giving it another play through so hopefully i can see what lvl 2 will do

diffenently got a "link's awakening" vibe, too. koholint could possibly be an island in a different world, much like the world of the ocean king is different than that of link's and tetra's world. i could diffently see the ocean king being the wind fish

They should make more DS games like these. Because Phantom Hourglass is indeed really challenging but fun at the same time.

ASH and Code Geass kinda doesn't count as it's more of a click menu system.

I think I stumbled upon a glitch. During my 3rd trip the the Ocean king shrine the key is missing in the B2 area. Its supposed to be where you stand on the switch to lower the spikes and throw the boomerang to claim it.

There are two orbs in that top area. You need to hit them both in a short period of time, then the key will drop. After that, you can bomb the wall to get to the switch quickly.

Okay, I've decided to restart and find all the Spirit Gems according to the FAQs. I'm getting way too annoyed at the 20th Power Gem.

I messed around with the multiplayer a little today-- it's pretty fun so far, although I keep getting matched up with people who obviously haven't bothered with the tutorial on Wi-Fi so I keep winning with no challenge.

I added my friend code to the appropriate thread (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=167398&page=6), so anyone who feels like it, add me and let me know so I can reciprocate.

I want this game badly. I spent about a half hour in Best Buy playing the Phantom Hourglass demo, and now I have to buy it for the sake of seeing more Captain Linebeck. ...Simply because he's just awesome and was able to prove that in under 30 minutes. :anime:

Can't wait to see more of this game.

My mom bought this game for me out of pitty a few days ago, honestly, I think a WW sequel is way overdue, but here it is. And what Game Trailer's reviewer said is true: You do have to go through EVERY puzzle over again every time you enter the Sea King Temple which is rediculous considering you have a time limit, you shouldn't have to waste it going through puzzles you've already solved, now you have to do them over and over and over again, but that's the only flaw I've found in this game so far

yes, but when you go through them again later, making good use of the items you've found on your travels should make it a lot easier. not to mention doing certain things will even yield rewards like ship parts and treasure maps. to be honest, it's gets so quick that after the first three temples, i could reach the half way point in five minutes. this isn't really a "flaw". i find it to be quite innovative, actually. makes the dungeon a lot less linear and actually makes you have to think about what you should do next, as zelda titles should do

...If you say so. I'm not that far in (I just finished the generic fire temple) so maybe my opinion will change.

That happened to me my first couple of online games, too. It was like the day after the game's release, so I figured that's what it was...

Now? I seem to run into people who play like complete a-holes. They'll use every dirty trick, even when they're winning by a landslide, OR will disconnect when they fall behind. I don't care so much about the disconnects, because I still gets points from that, but both examples are players being overly rude.

Welcome to online gaming. Even Zelda fans play dirty.

Oh, I'm no stranger to merciless online gaming... I'll even do it myself, if my opponent is skilled and giving me a good fight. Bring a gun to a knife fight, and so forth. I just don't get too rough, on players who seem to be having a hard time. You know, show a little respect.

I'm all for the base camping, the blocking, and the last minute saves. Anything goes. It makes me plan and counter-plan more, THAT'S fun.

And I don't even mind the sore losers who disconnect. But when players are more than safely ahead in points and neutral out what little force gems I have? Damn, that's outright hateful. It's not neccasary, and just plain rude. I'll take a loss. But do they HAVE to kick me while I'm down? It KILLS any fun I was having, and THAT SUCKS.

Have I had chances to do the same thing to other players who were losing badly? Yes. I even saw exactly how I could, but I didn't out of curtiesty.

Y'know what? I can't comprehend how you people are actually managing to get anywhere.

I can't get the sea chart. It's physically IMPOSSIBLE.

This game's going right back to Gamestop first chance I get.

If countless millions have purchased the game and completed it, then it stands to reason that the game isn't impossible, physically or on any level, doesn't it?

Hundreds of thousands have. I haven't. I'm not enjoying myself, and I'm returning the game and getting something I like.

Hundreds of thousands liked "Boktai", too. I hated it with a passion.

Certainly your choice and all. Just doesn't seem like you gave the game much of a chance.

I'm almost done with the game, but so far, with the exception of the Hourglass challenges (because I am not a fan of sneaking around in video games), I absolutely adore it. I admit boldy that Twilight Princess didn't strike a cord with me. It felt too "Me-too" amongst the other Zeldas (keep in mind, I only played the Gamecube version, I have no intention of dishing out 50 bucks on the Wii one anytime soon).

Hourglass would generally fit the notion, but I'm having a blast with the unique stylus control, making the Zelda series seem fresh again; I love how responive most of the control is and while I am one of the very few who didn't mind sail boating in Wind Waker (except for that dragged on Triforce Piece quest, ugh), I love controlling the steam boat more so then WW's. And I always did have a softspot for the charming character and artistic design of the Wind Waker-verse, so to have a sequel based on it adds a lot more appeal to me.

And let's face it, Linebeck is arguably one of the best Zelda characters ever.
