They have the opening scene over on Gametrailers, in case you want to see it, but I put a spoilers mention anyway just to be safe.

The intro starts with Mario heading through Toad Town, when a few battleships start attacking and imprison some of the Toads in crystal. Mario sees the ships and recognizes the insignia on their flags (that being a Bowser version of the Jolly Roger). One ship heads for Peach's castle, while the other stays around town. Bowser appears on the former and uses some mysterious power to call forth a U.F.O. The U.F.O. uses lasers to cut off access to the castle, lifts it with chains and off the planet surface. Mario, who was on the land that got lifted up along with the castle is confronted by Kamek, who promptly blasts him into space.

If you want to see the intro, here it is, however there are some Japanese subtitles on it. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25847.html

They really need to secure that castle. This is not the first time it's been taken.

Pretty awesome, really. Makes Bowser actually look like a legitimate threat. Full out war on the Mushroom Kingdom (again).

Love that wierd run Mario's doing in the beginning.

Anybody else think Mario's voice in that clip is extremely.... off? I mean, the "Hoo"s and "Ha"s that he makes when jumping sound normal, but during the cutscenes, especially when he's knocked off the platform by the Magikoopa in the end, it seemed wierd.

Great clip, though. Nice to see Bowser as a competent villian again.

Also lovin' the Bowser theme from Super Mario Bros. 3 in the musical score.

Well, there's probably gonna be like a 50/50 chance of actually scoring a copy in stores when you haven't pre-ordered the game.

This is the first time in more than 6 years that Bowser himself has kidnapped Peach. Since Paper Mario, it's been his son, Bowletta in M&L:SS, Grodus in PM:TTYD, and the Shroobs in M&L:PiT.

or a 100% depending on where you live. here in the midwest there's no real need to preorder anything unless it's mega huge like halo 3 was

no need to over generalize

Wow, this looks epic already. I need a Wii so that I can get my hands on this baby.

River26

Well, I wish you luck. Because it's really hard to find a Wii. Though, if you want one. It's best to head to the game store either on Saturday or Sunday when the stores immediately open.

Whoa. That was so cool! Bowser has never really come across as a really big threat to me, and in a span of a little over 2 minutes he's managed to do it.

This game shall rock.

Yeah, it's true what Reggie said that this' like the true successor to SM 64, and not Sunshine. Well, Sunshine didn't prove as a lasting impression for me as well. Instead it was mostly Galaxy.

How has a game you haven't played yet left a lasting impression on you?

I'm just commenting in my opinion at least BCVM.

And my question had nothing to do with your opinion. I'm looking forward to the game just as much as you are. I was just curious as to how you can say a game that you haven't played and isn't even out yet has left a lasting impression on you.

Hmm...looks like they've ditched the speaking voices for the characters, and instead have opted to have the characters only make their generic noises, and then subtitle what it is they're saying.

That's a good move because Bowser's voice in Sunshine was annoying. It looks like Toadsworth isn't in the game (well, at least in the video).

About time someone at big N is useing their heads and bring back stuff form past mario games into his 3-D ones. The power ups,the doomships and magic koopa are back. What else from the past is back?

River26

I think you pretty much mentioned them all. Because the rest are just new to the Mario series. Like the Boo outfit, which this time Mario makes friends with the boo enemies (which I find cute) and the Bee outfit.

So far from what we also get from the controllers;

Quick Sweeping Motions on the Wii-Remote will make Mario do the following
- Spin Attack
- Access the Star Transport system (which makes Mario grabs the stars and he blasts from the stars like a cannon to other planets)
- Activate Switches (when Mario swings his arms 360, which we saw Mario activated the bridge switch)

Starpiece Shooting *Must've collected some star pieces for this to work*
- Press A

On Jumping
- Pressing A, normal jump

- Pressing A+Joystick (of the Nunchuck), while leaning against a wall makes Mario do a backflip

- While against a wall, press continously the A and move the joystick < to >. For wall jumping

Star Capture
- Point to the specific star (enclosed with an orb), then press A. The star will drag you to that location. Repeat until you get to your respective destination.

^ Did I forget some of the controlls? Though, I'm not sure how you do the slingshot

Wow, after seeing that, maybe i do want a Wii after all (other than getting it for NiGHTS though)?

I also noticed, Peach is the only one that speaks a language that i understand...

River26

Yeah, I also noticed that too. Only the toad citizens say "Ha-ha" for their speech.

Hmm, I don't remember a bee outfit when I was playing Mario 3. Rather only the Tanooki (stage outfit) and Mario (or Luigi) dressed as a Cloud (to skip the stages). But no Bee outfit.

The bee reminds me more of the frog suit for some reason.

...and I saw Goomba! All I need now is confirmation that fire Mario wears white.

i believe zam was referring to the concept that mario will be wearing different costumes, not that the actual smb3 costumes will return. bee mario is in one of the videos from this years e3

Yeah, there seems to be old enemy favs returning from past series'. Such as;
- Bullet Bills (this time they now act as like a homing missile)
- Goomba
- Pipe Planet Monster (the one that tends to show up. And fortunately this time, you can actually kill him when you step on it's head.

You know, at this point, wouldn't it make more sense if Bowser tried to take out Mario instead of kidnap the princess? I mean, Mario's just going to interfere anyway, so why not cut out the middleman?

And that file selection screen after the video with the Mii faces makes me wish they'll throw in a Mario-64 face-stretch thing to screw with the Mii faces. That would be awesome.

He's a sadist who likes ruining Mario's life. (or, that's what Mario Sunshine says, anyway)

Did y`all see bowser shoot ligthing out of his hands? Look like big N trying toretutn him back into that badass he was in the 16/8bit era. Until he became lame bad guy who give berth bowser jr. Then again sense this is the real sequel to 64,then does that make sunhsine a filler?

Which is why he sent magic koop to take care of mario.

Yeah, more or less. Sunshine really felt like a sidestory.

Sunshine is a filler in my view. I mean, during the clip, did you guys notice how the castle was almost the same as in Mario 64?

River26
10-05-2007, 11:15 AM
Yeah, I did. That's why Reggie said this was more like a true sequel to Mario 64. And a return to the true platform hopping series. But, now it's planet hopping in this sequel.

It's just probably one of Bowser's plans to psyche Mario out and taunt him. Which he also summoned that koopa wizard to do his bidding as well.
