I just finished Final Fantasy X, and all I can say is... it's another Squaresoft masterpiece! (I acutally got choked up in the Macalania Lake love scene and at the end of the game.)

Does anyone else on these message boards love Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross? I've played Final Fantasies VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X all the way through, as well as Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. I've also played Vagrant Story and Xenogears, though I haven't yet had the chance to finish those two games.

"Failure", I noticed you had Rikku as your Valentine's Day avatar. I agree, Rikku IS hot! (Have you seen the woman who does Rikku's voice? She's hot too -- and she does Batgirl's voice.

Tara Strong is her name, and here is her website:
http://www.tarastrong.com/ )

I'm hoping to turn this into a lengthy thread. Which Final Fantasies/Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross was your favorite? Which scenes made you cry, laugh, get the adrenaline pumping? Who is your favorite hottie (or hunk)? I really want to know! :)

For example, I think that the invasion of Bevelle on Final Fantasy X really got my adrenaline pumping. It was like being on a roller coaster ride!

I think that the most shocking Final Fantasy moment is still the scene where Sephiroth killed Aeris in cold blood. Who didn't want to kill Sephiroth after that scene???

I think the most enlightening moment is when, on Chrono Trigger, in 12,000 BC, you suddenly realize that the entire planet you're on, and everything you've known on that planet up to that point, is all tied together in a very intimate way.

The most touching scene, to me, is a tie between the Macalania Lake scene on Final Fantasy X, and the scene on the Ragnarok on Final Fantasy VIII right before it lands.

Anyway, please write! :D

Oh man, I almost forgot about the music! Music is such an important part of the RPG experience. What songs do you love? Why?

I've always had a thing for the "special boss fight" music, because those songs always had a "That's it! It's do or die! Hit 'em with everything you've got!" mentality to them. It makes you want to get up and go! :)

Also, the overworld music (particularly that on Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX) is usually very calming, like nice, relaxing classical music.

I Don't know. There's just so much the benevolent gods at Square have provided for us. Just about anything they've made completly and totally kicks more ass than an angry man with a steel-toed boot who hates donkeys. I guess just about everything in FFX, FF7, FF6, and chrono trigger are my faves. Plus Nobuo Uematsu is a freaking musical genius. (Does most of the Final fantasy series music)

Well, I don't think about Squaresoft all the time, so I can't say I'm a fan, but I enjoy their games and I am a *Final Fantasy* fan.

Yeah...listening to Bubbles do the ultra-cute Rikku was strange but appropriate....

Favourite FF scene has to be either the opera house scene in FFVI or the last battle in FFIV.

I have a strange soft spot for FFVII, though that isn't my favourite FF.

I love the games. I haven't been lucky enough to experience to FFX, so I can't comment - but I have VERY fond memories of VII, VII and IX. Music is especially important - just got my copies of FF8 and FF7 OST yesterday, so I have my three fav OST on disk!

Started FFV, very enjoyable, not got round to going further with it and FFVI - or anthology as I believe you US-ians call it - is out in the UK on March 1st with a FFx demo so I'll be able to see what's up with FFx then!

Fav Scores from FF:

1. One Winged Angel FF7
2. Holding My thoughts To My heart FF7
3. Tantalus theme FF9
4. Not Alone! FF9
5. FF7 end credits FF7
6. Hurry! FF7
7. The Dark messenger FF9
8. FF8 battle theme FF8
9. Fishermans Horizon FF8
10. FF9 Battle theme
11. Main Theme Theme FF7
12. Timber theme FF8
13. Cait Sith Theme FF7
14. Quina Theme FF9
15. Legendary Beast FF8

Those are all great songs! :) I also like:

-the song they play when you fight Seymour for the 3rd time in Final Fantasy X

-the song they play when you're fighting the four enhanced Statues (right before the final fight with Kefka) on Final Fantasy VI

-the theme song to the village of Enhasa in 12,000 BC on Chrono Trigger

-the overworld music for Final Fantasies VII, VIII, and IX

-the opera love song of Final Fantasy VI

-the song they play when you fight the Atma Weapon on Final Fantasy VI

And there are many other songs I like where those came from...

As for Final Fantasy hotties, I've gotta go with Tifa (FF VII), Rinoa (FF VIII), Garnet (FF IX), and Rikku (FF X). I think it's ironic that Rikku has become the popular hottie of FF X. Usually it's the leading lady. But this time, Rikku seems to have beat out Yuna!

Yep, I love Squaresoft. I almost exclusively buy their products. My faves include Xenogears, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 6, Vagrant Story, etc... heck, I could go on forever :P

As for favorite song, my personal fave is 'Small Two of Pieces' from Xenogears, followed by 'Eyes on Me' from FF8.

I consider myself a Final Fantasy fan, too. Not really Squaresoft becuase I don't buy many games (I bought FF8 on the PC and still have yet to get out of Balamb Garden....yeah, I don't really have time to play...=\ ). I'm in the process of playing FFX but I don't have my own PS2 and going across the dorm kinda sucks. I love almost all the love themes in the games, I'm a sucker for good lyrics. :)

My favorite scene has to be where Rinoa falls into Squall's arms (on my avatar :) ) and the ending of FF8. I can't think of any other ones I've liked, I'm watching the men's figure skating right now and they're so darn cute! :p

Yeah, I LOVED "Eyes on Me" from Final Fantasy VIII... you know a video game is a big deal when it actually has a THEME SONG! :)

Anyway, you say you loved Final Fantasy VIII, and are a sucker for good lyrics? Then I have a tough question for you. The lyrics to the opening song of Final Fantasy VIII, "Liberi Fatali"... is that in Latin or what? What does it say when translated into English? Does it say anything at all? I always thought the chorus was Latin for "Absoulte power corrupts absoultely" or something along those lines...

As far as Final Fantasy Tactics is concerned -- that game is dauntingly complex! I gave it a go once, and just couldn't get into it. One of my best friends, however, played the game all the way through. He even got all the hidden secrets -- even Cloud from Final Fantasy VII joined his party! His final log time was 215 hrs. and some change. Amazing!

Final Fantasy X is worth the trouble of walking across a dorm every day. I'd do it! :) I beat Final Fantasy X in 61 hrs. 12 min.

Hey, I just had an interesting idea... what if Squaresoft's writers took a turn writing some Justice League episodes??? :D Imagine the cool stuff they'd come up with...

I meant good lyrics to sappy songs. :) sorry if i didn't make that clear. i liked "Liberi Fatali" because of the sound and orchestra, but I loved "Eyes On Me" because of the lyrics ^_^ and the song, too. I love listening to lyrics when it's a love song.... :p But if you want, the lyrics to Liberi Fatali is, you can find them here (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~nstevens/lyrics/ff8.html)

never got Final Fantasy Tactics. =\ For Playstation 1 games I have to depend on my brother becuase it's his stuff. =( I don't really know what it's about anyway. =\

Did your friend use the Player's Guide they sell in stores? My brother does, but I've been playing FFX without one. I'd love to get my own for FF8 and FFX becuase I like to look at the lovely graphics in the book. :) It always makes me wish I could draw like that ^_^ Do you use a player's guide when you play? some people see it as cheating, but what I'm planning to do (if I ever get the chance to finish either game) is to play first without the guide and then go through the game again and see what I missed.

:) The way I see it, I usually do different things at once. I could be on the computer and watching tv, then listening to music, watching tv again, reading, then feel like playing a game. If FFX would come out on PC like FF8, it would be so great cuz all i'd have to do is pop in the disc and i'm set. :D And that way, I don't have to keep calling my buddy when I want to play to see if he's in his room or not. >.< He was supposed to give me keys to his room this weekend but decided against it. ARGH. boooooooo. Maybe next weekend....... :D

Yes, I'm a huge fan of there RPG's. I loved FF1-6, 7, and 9. I hated 8, and 10 was alright, but they each had very good music. Right now though, the game with the best story from Square is Xenogears. I really like the music they play when Id is around, it's call "The one who is Torn apart" or something like that. Anyway, I thank them for making companys see that you can make money off RPG's. Without them, we wouldn't have as many RPG's stateside.

I have to say that Square's best game was FFIV/2, for the snes. Their other snes games FFVI/6 and Chrono Trigger are good, but there's some small flaw that bothers me enough to rate them below FFIV. FF6's main flaw for me was there was too many characters' plotlines going on at the same time, making the game disjointed at time. Crono Trigger's flaw is that the storyline falls apart at the end, and Crono's resurrection was a bit of a cop-out in my opinion. Square's only good PSX game was Front Mission 3 and if you catch me on a good day, I'll also say FFT. As for best RPG makers personally, I'd back Atlus or Enix before Square. Boy, I can't wait until I'm old enough to be a cranky old man. :D

You really didn't like Chrono Trigger? I thought it had an almost flawless storyline, with an incredible ending. (Though I'll give you the Crono being replaced with the 'copy' part as a bit cheesy. :) ) It's amazing to me that with all that time travel, and such a complicated storyline, that there are NO plotholes or paradoxes!!!

I must admit I never got to play Final Fantasies I - V. Final Fantasy VI on the Super NES is where I discovered the genius that is Squaresoft. :D

IV is near and dear to my heart. It's actually a pretty standard RPG fantasy adventure, but there's just something very warm about the characters, cliche as they were. It's my personal favourite.

Chrono Trigger is a fantastic game, but it's targeted at a younger audience. It is much lighter than a FF game, and so you don't get as much angst and heaviness as I usually prefer.

I still contend FF VI gives you a more total package than most FFs. The characters are all unique in play and personality, the gameplay is complex and innovative without losing excitement, and the story, while a bit too large in scope, is more compelling than the FFs after it. You can mix and match offensive schemes and spells, customize weaponry and armour...it gives you a very control-oriented feel. My only complaint is that the game DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH CELES! If they had CELES from the beginning and as the MAIN CHARACTER, it would have been perfect for me.

LOL - now theres a flame war starter if I ever saw one! :D Tifa or Aeris(th)? I've seen many a seasoned gamer fall foul of the war between these two ladies - which was Cloud's girl? ;) Silly, but scary how people will get protective over these two (personally I've always contended Tifa - but thats from a logical standpoint rather than a protective one, and without boring people or entering spoiler territory , I will keep my opinions to myself!)

Looking forward too FF6's release over here - as for Eyes On Me, was not a great fan of it at the time - possibly because it was part and parcel of a compulsory love story - I think that's why I have always been a huge FF7 fan - the whole thing was just far less linear than the others...

Final Fantasy hotties for me are: Squall, Laguna, Cloud, and possibly Tidus. :D Although I'd give anything to look like Yuna, I think she's pretty. It's interesting, though, but isn't Yuna and Garnet a copy from Rinoa? And yet guys still think Rinoa is hotter... :p

I liked it when "Eyes on Me" was made for Laguna and his lady. ^_^ But then they decided it should be the love song for Squall and Rinoa. They should've just left it for Laguna. He deserves *something* out of the game, don't you? ;)

Well that was the irony was it not?

Laguna being Squalls dad and his lady being Rinoa's mum, eh? Freaky.

I agree that Laguana didn't get the exposure he deserved. I prefered his character to Squall - pity he wasn't taken any further. He had a great blend of tragedy and humour.

He should have had center stage.

Yeah, Garnet looks like Rinoa when she was young, and Yuna looks like Rinoa's long lost sister. But you're right... for some reason, Rinoa looks hotter. :D I can't explain it myself, but it's true...

As far as the theme song (and love song) goes, my only complaint about Final Fantasy X is that they did NOT translate the theme/love song of the game into English, like they did for Final Fantasies VIII and IX.

I wonder... did Final Fantasy VII have its own theme/love song with actual lyrics? I just can't remember. I don't think so, but a good friend of mine says it did. Does anyone know?

James
02-19-2002, 10:43 AM
Not that I'm aware. What most consider the love theme would be either the two main Aeris numbers. I love that game so very much. It's one of those experiences I'll be proud to take to my grave.

There were no words, except for the latin in One Winged Angel - FF7 was the commnecial breaking point for FF, I think the lyric songs of it's predcessors were building on FF7 success. By then, Square knew they had something extremely bankable and was worth spending on some commercial songs..

The theme for FFX isn't composed specifically for the video game because my sister loves Korean pop and told me: "OMG FFX is using Sky's song for the theme!!!" we were so happy, I love that song. THe video is touching, too. :) one of the few music videos that made me cry :')

i do hope that they come out with an english version like all the other ones. i'd like to know what the lyrics translate to.

Heh.

You know, if I ever get married, the song I'm going to choose to play at my wedding will be Final Fantasy VIII's "Eyes on Me." :D That song chokes me up every time I hear it. :)

Hey, maybe that will be the first time a video game song was played at a wedding! (Then again, maybe not... Geez, I'm such a geek. :) )

Of course, two songs are normally played at weddings, so my would-be wife would choose a song of her own too.

And you know, although Garnet and Yuna look like variations of Rinoa, doesn't Tidus look like a variation of Squall?

I'd say that Zidane, Squall, and Tidus are all creepily similar. It bugs me.

Sephiroth and kuja were a little too alike for my tastes too.

Final sephiroth looked too much like Final kefka.

Seymore is somewhat like kefka.

I could go on and on, but I love final fantasy, so I'll qui my nit-picking.

I argee with that. One of the reasons I hated FF8 was because the main character's attitude. Squall and the others pretty much annoyed the hell out of me. At first Squall had the same attitude as Cloud at the start, so it didn't bother me, but then he wouldn't stop so I ended up hating him. I liked Laguna because he was just so damn likeable. I mean, if most people met him in real life, he'd be a great person to be around. I also liked the way Kiros and Ward were making fun of him during the scene with Rinoa's mom playing the piano.

I bet FF8 could of been so much more if Laguna was the main character.
