I hate WB(the channel, the movie company's good). The thing I hate the most is the toonami delemma. CN has awesome anime, so why bother sharing it with a crappy network? WB has horrible shows (eww, detention), kellner, and worse, so how could doing that help your profits?. WHY DID TURNER DO THIS TO CN?

Hm, could it be because WARNER BROTHERS OWNS TURNER?

Hmmmm.

Well, CN and the WB are owned by the same uber-corporation, AOL-Time Warner; thus, they can easily swap shows between these two of their subsidiary TV networks without trouble (and why you see "Scooby Doo" playing on both networks as well). Ted Turner likely had nothing to do with any of this (no clue how much if any involvement Kellner would've had).

"Detention" hasn't aired on the WB since last September or so (it's long been cancelled). Though I admit its quality wasn't the highest...

As for the "Toonami" dilemma, not too concerned over that...far as I'm concerned, CN can keep all of WB's anime shows if it'd free up room to air something else (not much of an anime fan, I admit)...

Well, Matt, just be mean to me. Brianatra, I hope that is how it goes. I just don't like how the WB network is getting the great CN shows to air occasionally, but CN gets the bad WB shows. I also don't want to see CN lose profits from this, and limit them to a worse network.

Time-Warner is a Monopoly, just like Microsoft, they killed broadcast TV. All the good stuff is now on cable. Broadcast Companies should sue Time-Warner and tear that mo-fo up just like the did with microsoft.

And then get let off the hook, just like Microsoft ;-)

Seriously, AOL-TW isn't a monopoly, since it doesn't dominate the entirety of entertainment media. In various parts of the country, of course, its cable company assets could be deemed de facto monopolies (since very few places have the option of choosing from multiple cable co.'s, though minidishes seem to be doing in-roads to cable's business as we speak). And of course, what "good stuff" is is pretty subjective (I'd have liked to have cable to see CNN, the Cartoon Network, perhaps the Sci-Fi channel, Nickelodeon (for at least Nick at Nite)/TV Land, and Showtime (recall some miniseries that aired on there last year I couldn't get the chance to see, lacking cable). All of said viewing choices differing from others on here, I'm sure. That, and of course, years ago, there were only *three* networks to choose from, period (ABC, CBS, and NBC)...

If you want to nitpick the constant media mergers, though, I wouldn't blame you....radio seems to be particularly the worst area I see in that regard (all the stations having the same formats and sounding exactly the same, even in other cities, since most of them seem to be owned by the same few companies like Clear Channel Communications)...

Maybe they are acting dumb so they can lul everyone into a false sence of security only for us to one day to wake up and realize that Time-Warner has taken over the world.

"Monopoly" means that there is only one game in town. One company rules an entire industry for an entire country. Vince McMahon's WWF is a monopoly; AOL Time Warner is not (I've been wondering why Vince doesn't get sued for anti-trust violations, since he doesn't even have the exemption MLB has as he'll be the first to tell us pro wrestling's not a sport, but that's another subject). Now, in the United States, there's AOL Time Warner, there's D*sn*y, there's Viacom, there's (foreign owned) Fox, there's General Electric (which owns NBC & RCA), there's Vivendi or whatever the company is that owns MCA-Universal now, there's Dreamworks, tho they have to make deals with the big boys, have I left out anyone? Now, an argument could be made that together these companies form an oligopoly, but that's not a monopoly.

I think it's Seagrams that owns MCA/Universal...

Re: companies going out of business: news item today probably just gave these companies (esp. AOL-TW, since it was the example heavily cited) even more power to merge/buy out stuff (a federal appeals court struck down an FCC rule that states companies can't own TV stations and cable companies in the same city). Without this rule (and a rule on the verge of being removed that's against owning newspapers and TV stations in the same city, IIRC), various commentators believe it could allow even more mega-mergers a la AOL and Time-Warner (someone in the NY Times even suggested the possibility of a company like AOL-TW buying out NBC if the court decision stands/isn't overturned by the Supreme Court)...

Ignoring my (generally negative) various opinions on this decision, the idea of AOL-TW and NBC together would be quite, um, "interesting"----just think of the promos:

(Cue a split-screen, one side showing typical WB primetime stuff like "Smallville"'s Clark angsting over his being cursed with the "inconvenience" of being nigh-invulnerable, the lead guy from "Dawson's Creek" angsting over, um, whatever, and "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"'s Salem angsting over a lack of tuna in the house, while the other half shows various NBC show stuff---the cast of "Friends" worrying about their love lives, the cast of "Fraiser" worrying about their live lives, the cast of "Will and Grace" worrying about their love lives, the cast of "West Wing" worrying about....the state of the union. Oh, *and* their love lives. Cue annoying voiceover)

ANNOUNCER: (with booming thunder effects) NBC... and *the WB*... just when you thought our media power couldn't grow any further---*you're wrong*! (Cue canned laughter, as we see the cast of "Angel" mingling with the cast of "Just Shoot Me" for no logical reason).

ANNOUNCER: Now that we've merged into AOL-GE-WB-NBC-Time-Warner, we're looking to improve our television offerings with an all-new lineup of shows! Tonight, on "Must-See WB-NBC TV": On "Friends", what happens when the gang finds new employment---at Booker T. Washington High School?!

(Cut to "The Steve Harvey Show", with Steve Harvey looking at the Friends-transplants with great displeasure--they're lounging around the teacher's lounge drinking up all the coffee, playing acoustic guitars, looking out the window through binoculars, and asking "Cedric the Entertainer" why he didn't do any standup jokes in "the Kings of Comedy" about how hard it is to get a decent latte outside of NYC...)

STEVE: When they said NBC didn't have enough "ethnic diversity" to its lineup, this *ain't* how I wanted them to *fix it*. (Canned laughter)

ANNOUNCER: And *also*---see what happens when big-city clashes with small-town when "Fraiser" is forced to visit "Smallville"! (Cut to a shot of Fraiser psychoanalyzing Clark)

FRAISER: So, tell me why it is you blame Earth's yellow sun for your supposed "powers".... something from your childhood perhaps?

CLARK: My parents rocketed me away from their doomed planet to Earth, before Krypton blew up...

FRAISER: Ah, I see... (writing) "parental seperation anxiety..." (canned laughter)

ANNOUNCER: And our lineup also extends to our exciting line of children's programming! Thanks to our uber-network connections with Cartoon Network, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and a bunch of other acronyms we haven't even thought of yet, we'll be able to bring you such stuff as:

"Pokemon: the New York Journeys"! (Cue stock footage of the Poke-gang engaging in a Pokemon battle with the cast of "Seinfeld" in Times Square, before cops come along to force them to move it along to Central Park)

"Batman Beyond 42nd Street"! (Cue stock footage of Batman and Robin forced to fight the Joker, who's holding the cast of "Will and Grace" hostage)

"Ed, Edd, Eddy, and....Ed!" (Cue stock footage of these "Cartoon Cartoons" characters mingling with the cast of "Ed" in Stuckeyville)

"Stuckeyville": See the adventures of Ed when he learned to gain great lawyer powers---plus, a hideous lawsuit each *week*! (Cue angsty teenaged Ed wondering why he's cursed with such knowledge of copyright infringement issues, while pining for some girl....)

"Saturday Morning Live": See different Kids' WB show actors each week hosting a 90-minute variety sketch show starring the various KWB cast members! (Cut to Chandu...)

CHANDU: Greetings. I am the demonic menace known as Chandu the Fire Demon....but this week, you will also know me as an entertaining and enjoyable co-host of "Saturday Morning Live". Special guests will include Garrett Wang, the musical stylings of BAAB, and--- (checks the script) I find this script *unacceptable*! (Breathes fire in anger) Everything after the opening monologue is little more than regurgitated, poorly-timed and inane attempts at "entertainment" or "humor"! Someone will *PAY DEARLY*! (Flames more fire; hears whispering from off-stage) (Flatly) I *see*. Apparently, this isn't a misfired script....but the way it's *supposed* to be written. (Puffs flame in disappointment) We'll be right back.... (muttering) even if *I* won't... (walks off-stage; as music plays, cut to still frame of the cast of "Jackie Chan" in one of those black-and-white cast photos with the "Sat. Morning Live" logo superimposed).

ANNOUNCER: All this, "Apeline: starring the Powerpuff Girls and Mojo Jojo", and *MORE*! So don't miss our all-new lineup----(chuckles) What am I saying? A couple more mergers, and you won't be *able* to miss watching us! (Chuckles) *Be there*! (Cue the "N-B-C" xylophone chimes, with Michigan J. Frog shown looking annoyed at having the NBC peacock's feathers stuck on his rear...).
>>>>

Of course, the above's just a "worst case scenario", of course... erm, I *hope*.
