I'd like to see what you thought of the commentary. Personally, I didn't like it.

It's never a bad thing to have both versions. If I were rich, I'd buy both. ;)

Actually, I kind of liked the edited version. Most of it was better in the unedited, like the scene when Robin kills the Joker , but other scenes, like the one when Joker kills Bonk , went a lot smoother in the edited version. As thegame said, having both is the best of both worlds! And the commentary was fun--not something I would want to watch again and again, but IMHO worth watching.

It felt like they were insulting Batman at times.

The commentary on the edited version is great, but I just know the unedited version will be awesome. Why? Becuase the version on the edited DVD is their second go at the commentary, while the first DVD will have a commenyary pre-controversy. I can't wait.

There's going to be commentary on the uncut one? Awesome. Masybe they will be nicer here.
I didn't like how they said how certain scenes didn't work (maybe they were mad that it was edited?).

I thought that commentary was fantastic. The unedited commentary will be even better.

Watch the hospital scene at the end with the commentary on to see what I am talking about.

See, I didn't like it either. The parts where they made fun of the story (or dialogue) were insulting.

What were you listening to? I didn't hear any of that.

At the very end at the hospital scene, one of them was making fun of what Bruce said. One of the other guys says it did work. If you're going to do a commentary, don't insult the fans who like it.

No....they didn't say anything of the sort, they said that that was the closest Bruce would come to giving Terry a compliment...
ie even in this movie he stayed in character..
honestly, what's your beef?

I'll go back and listen and put in the exact quote. Maybe it was the tone in the way the guy said it that annoyed me.

Ok, it's before Bruce enters the hospital room. It's when Drake is talking to Terry. The one guy says it's his favorite scene and the other guys start laughing. Right after Tim stops talking:
"What part motivates him to say that...it's not the smoothest part of writing". He then laughs. They reveal a revelation moment and the guys laugh? Uncalled for.
Even when Tim leaves the room and Bruce is about to enter, he makes another crack and the writer has to explain the obvious conclusion. I was very offended.

oh, that...it wasn't good writing, plain and simple...Tim does a complete 180...there was no motivation. I still don't see why you're getting bent out of shape..
Because the movie isn't "Perfect"...
Get over it...if one little laugh is all it takes to piss you off, you might want to look into lviing in seclution with no oudside contact with the real world...honestly, there was nothing offensive there...

i like the commentary...
just because it's a dark-toned movie, doesn't mean the producers, and the directors, etc. have to be dark-toned w/ their commentary.
i like how Timm, Dini, Marikami (sp), & Geda just had fun pointing out little goofs and stuff like that in their "dark" tale. It wuz refeshing... i also like how they explain why a particular scene is their fave part, or why they like a certain shot... an example of that is at the very end of the flashback sequence where Batgirl hugs a tormented Tim, and Batman stands over them with his shadow covering them. I didn't even notice it until Bruce mentioned that the shot was a symbol for how Tim didn't have to go through all dat crap if he didn't go under Batman's shadow and become Robin...
i luved it...

It was a realization of course. Since when are characters not allowed to change in the end??
I guess I'm the only one who is offended when something serious (in a storyline) is turned into a cheap shot joke.

There was no joke made! Jeez, don't make me reboot & rewatch it right now, I'm too tired. Just because someone laughs, doesn't make it a joke...
It was poor writing..it provided closure, but wasn't backed up by the events of the film. It's possible that the laughter was because they had faught over the line, and someone switched sides and admitted it was junk..I dunno. If one throwaway line in the comentary is gonna get you so riled up, why did you listen?

I can't believe this is getting out of hand because of an innocent opinion.
Why did I listen to the commentary track? I will not answer such an obvious question.
My feeling is probably similar to all those people who didn't like Planet of the Apes 2001 or Pay It Forward because of the ending.
You liked it; I wasn't a big fan of it. Let's just end it there.

I think the part both of you are referring to was when Timm said somthing along the lines of "what does that mean anyway?" when Tim Drake said "Somtimes we can't say what needs to be said" (or somthing along those lines). Which, i STILL don't know what it means...
now then....the un-edited version will be coming up in a few short months....I so 'cited! :D

I think naraht has a point though - they weren't making fun of the movie or making jokes - they pointed out the simple fact that they felt it wasn't the best writing in the movie. There was nothing insulting about it that I can tell. I think you're just misinterpreting what they were saying.
